IMHO qooxdoo problem is not political if we should really have one.

I see many talks about opening such things but no real long-living
contributions. Andreas and I'm really trying to involve more people, but
we don't give anyone access just because he have developed some lines of
code he want to contribute.
This is really rude! There are a couple of people who really have
contributed here, but you do not even realise it! THis is the problem. I
do not need to comment more, cause it is self-explanatory.:-)
ok ok ok :) I am sorry. This was not meant this way. We really
appreciate your work and the work of the others. It's good. (I really
like that your contributions with your Definitions file etc.) But not as
good, as we felt we should include it in the default qooxdoo
distribution. (That's because we have established this "contributed"
folder). In my opinion "long-living" mean to try to fix bugs and make
your contributions really stable and usable. It's more than just submit
it. I think you should fix them before we include them and make them
(really) available for the masses.

small applet.
A totally different technology, but it is good for those who like Java.
You do not need to learn more new things if you already are a java
developer.
IT NEEDS JAVA INSTALLED!!!!! This is negative for those who do not want
installation support problems and version problems. It has become
better, but still is a problem. More problematic to integrate other
disruptive technologies and mix them in the same page if Java is
dominating.
- http://www.openlaszlo.org/ , it uses flash
THis is a highly interesting technology, but its UI is quite limited and
must be extended to create real desktop applications. Its strength is
creating animations, and live and responsive sites more than real
applications. I like the tool! A little bit too slow for me and it does
not matter much if you create simple widgets.
We chose Qooxdoo for the RIA more application oriented, but Laszlo for
the more multimedial entertainment web sites.

I'm not saying comparision between different javascript framework,
where qooxdoo is great, but between different technologies to do the
same thing: rendering RIA.
Maybe the topic interest some people...
