That sounds useful.  I have been doing that in a more difficult way. 
Again would you be averse if I borrowed that idea into the
Pitchbend/controller inserter?

What I do is temporarily add a dummy note, never intended to sound, and
erase it when I'm done.  That lets me cut out a few steps.
