   Right.  That would be covered.  Each device file (.rgd) can specify 
what the synth needs.  And the user is completely free to tweak this in 
a composition's studio on a device by device basis.  My idea just moves 
the Bank and Program checkboxes into the device file/bank editor.  For 
the most common use cases, this is no change, just a simplification.

   A "best of both worlds" approach.  One simple possibility would be to 
offer a "classic" mode that would provide the original rg UI (bank and 
program checkboxes on each track) if the users really want it.  That's 
usually just a good idea anyway, so it's certainly something to include 
in the design.  It would also ease the transition when reading "old" 
compositions and device files.  They would fall back on "classic" mode.
