Re: [blind-gamers] Accessible DND?

2023-12-03 Thread Justin Jones
Maybe someone, somewhere, can find a way to add accessibility to
Baldur's Gate 3? Then again, the game's engine was developed by Larian
Studios and may not allow for the required changes to make the game
accessible.

[blind-gamers] Table-top RPG question

2023-11-09 Thread Justin Jones
Hello all,

I am running a DnD campaign and I have encountered a difficulty. As I
continue to build my world, I am finding that keeping all of my notes
organized has become arduous.

At present, I have been making use of Notepad and Microsoft Word, but
these applications do not provide the levels of organization I
require. Do any of you have any suggestions for applications that will
allow me to keep more organized notes?

Thanks,
Justin

Re: [blind-gamers] Games expensive lately?

2023-04-03 Thread Justin Jones
I agree with Charles.

Game development is both time-consuming and expensive. There is a lot
more that goes into it than people might think. People that develop
games are entitled to financial compensation if they decide to sell
their product.

Re: [blind-gamers] epic games!

2021-10-27 Thread Justin Jones
Don't count on Activision-Blizzard addressing this issue. After all,
they are not the ones making Hearthstone accessible.

As an aside, I did get everything set up, but it was overcomplicated
and buggy to create an account. However, once the setup is complete,
the rest works well enough.

Re: [blind-gamers] manamon2

2021-05-26 Thread Justin Jones
I've actually got the water starter for Manamon 2--another user sorted
me out on that front.

Regarding the Mortrexe thing, I could finish leveling my Spyrost up to
its next form, contact you, and we swap the Manamon back and forth. I
get my transformed Manamon, you don't need to worry about it, and we
both have our manapedias more complete than before.

Are you missing any of the starters from Manamon 2? If so, I can help with that.

Re: [blind-gamers] manamon2

2021-05-26 Thread Justin Jones
I am about to start Manamon 2 up and breed a couple of expendable
manamon to trade.

If possible, I would like to get my hands on the fire starter for
Manamon 2, Pegisen from the first game--if you have it--and, since you
offered, Hathorilian and those other three.

Please let me know if this is okay by you.

The game kind of leaves it up to you where to go. There are three
left: undead, dragon and fire. You will have to use the items you
picked up to reach any one of those places.

I started with dragon, then undead and left fire for last.
Incidentally, the road to the master stadium is just east of the
village where the fire one is located.

What's annoying about the Desert Dragon battle is that the game does
not actually tell you that the machine is present when the battle
starts. My guess is that this an oversight in the battle programming
for this particular encounter.

Re: [blind-gamers] Questions about a few Manamon 2 creature transformations

2021-01-25 Thread Justin Jones
The Remulian is a combination of Redonkeus and Steelian, i.e. you need
to have both in your current party when you go talk to the breeder.
Also, you can control some of the moves that the Remulian receives
based on the special moves you have in the Redonkeus and Steelian's
first slot.

As for the others, I'd love to know the answer to those questions too.

Re: [blind-gamers] the lacer in ogmas studio manamon2

2020-08-11 Thread Justin Jones
You are going to have to learn how to time the laser bursts. What I do
is to save after passing each laser trap.

Also, there's a very annoying part where you have to complete a puzzle
that gives you--temporary--immunity to lasers. Without the immunity,
there is a place that you cannot pass through. Frustrating--as are
most movement-based puzzles in the Manamon games--but there's no
getting around it.

I had this issue too; Aaron--or whomever did his writing/quest
design--forgot to put some linking text in that would direct you to
your next objective.

Remember that area you had to traverse to get to the mechanical city?
There is a machine there that you need to go investigate. Be warned
though, you are going to enter a dungeon that is both long and
frustrating.

The mini games are far more annoying than the movement nonsense.
Though, I wish Aaron had thought to add some navigation tools that the
player could use, e.g. a way to check your coordinates on the map.

A trick you will want to learn is to follow walls rather than
sprinting through the middle of an area. Sometimes you have to do the
latter, but I would work on following walls until you get the knack of
navigating Manamon's areas.

Re: [blind-gamers] Manamon 2 and swimming

2020-08-02 Thread Justin Jones
That's a battle you have to win; there are no other paths.

Things to try:

1. Level-grind all of your Manamon; it can be a tedious task, but
grinding usually helps.
2. Find a Manamon that is strong against magic/electric. The Gargaram
is ghost type, so you might be able to use him.

Best of luck

If you are talking about the Water Stadium, you don't need swimming
gear; you have to time your movement onto the boats that pass through
each body of water.

When the dragon tunnels, you need to attack the earthquake machine.
For some silly reason, when you start the fight, the machine isn't
listed as a target. After you do enough damage, the dragon will break
the machine and will become vulnerable to attacks.

If we are thinking of the same point in the game, yes, you can snag
ice Manamon, but they're in an out-of-the way area. There is a
preserve for ice-type Manamon south of the town before Shadow Canyon.

Undead and Magic will also work.

Depends on what you have. I would like to get my hands on a few of the
trade-only Manamon/the Symphonid--or whatever the hell that thing is
called that you can only get through completing the annoying
music-based minigames.

Re: [blind-gamers] Cards of Yore

2020-07-02 Thread Justin Jones
At Robert, fair enough. If they are able to have an updated version of
the demo that supports JAWS, then I will happily give it a test. If I
like it, I will absolutely support them, but until then, without the
ability to give it a trial I will not part with a single cent.

Re: [blind-gamers] Cards of Yore

2020-07-02 Thread Justin Jones
Until JAWS is rendered obsolete, then it remains a screen-reader that
requires support. To be honest, I wouldn't mind if Windows 10 did a
better job with an out-of-the-box screen-reader, but that day is not
here.

More importantly, I am not going to give my support to a product that
I cannot actually play. I am not going to try and learn a new
screen-reader just to play one game that I may--or may not--enjoy
playing. Investment of time and all of that.

Re: [blind-gamers] Cards of Yore

2020-07-02 Thread Justin Jones
I downloaded and installed the demo, but cannot play the game--even
when I am told that accessibility is enabled. I am a JAWS user, but I
got nothing, and decided to see if Narrator would play nicely with it:
same result. Anyone else have luck with the demo? I want to play
it--and maybe, to contribute to the Kickstarter--but if the
accessibility isn't going to work correctly out of the box, then this
is a hard pass for me.

And since I'm asking questions about Manamon/Manamon 2, how do you
import Manamon from the first game into the second game? Or do you
have to complete Manamon 2 before you can do this? I realize I might
be asking silly questions, but the manual isn't exactly forthcoming
with useful details. And, yes, I have completed the first
game--barring obtaining a few additional Manamon (which is why I
started this thread to begin with).

port forwarding but did not provide any explanation as to how to do
this.

Re: [blind-gamers] Manamon questions

2020-07-01 Thread Justin Jones
Thanks

I have a desktop and a laptop and have an installation of the game on
each. In the past, I've accidentally tried to launch Manamon twice on
the same machine and got a message about not being allowed to have two
instances of the game running on the same machine.

So, now that I know it can be done, i.e. trading in the manner I
discussed in my first post, how do I get the two games to speak to one
another? I was able to grab my IP address from both machines, but am
still unable to make both instances of the game communicate with one
another.

Also, regarding the guide, pity that no one has written one. If there
were better mapping tools in the game, e.g. a coordinates system, I'd
consider at least starting some sort of guide. In any instance, I was
hoping for one as there is a puzzle I am trying to figure out and am
having no luck... alas...

Again, thanks for the answer, but if I may indulge a bit more, would
you--any of you--be so kind as to help me through getting my laptop
and desktop installations of Manamon to communicate with one another?

Re: [blind-gamers] Musically Challenged in Manaman 2.

2020-06-28 Thread Justin Jones
I am also not musically inclined--my talents lie in other directions.
I think that restricting game rewards on a single mini-game is not an
optimal solution and that other means ought to be available to unlock
those same rewards:

1. Being able to trade for the Manamon to another NPC
2. Using gold--or some other means--to unlock the other rewards and so on.

I mean, keep the mini-games, but provide additional solutions.

While we are on the subject though, I wish there were more information
on how to transform of the Manamon--though I do appreciate that
Manamon 2 is trying to make things more interesting. Also, that the
only way you can get your hands on certain Manamon is by trading to
someone else. We ought to have other ways to transform these manamon.

[blind-gamers] Manamon questions

2020-06-23 Thread Justin Jones
Hello all,

I decided to try and finish the original Manamon and am basically done
with everything. I cannot capture a couple of remaining manamon in the
manapedia as I need to trade for them. Basically, I am wondering if I
created a second installation of the game on my laptop, could I trade
between the two games? Or does Manamon check the account linked to the
install thus preventing this sort of thing?

On that note, could I do the same with Manamon 2? I don't care about
online play, but I do like completing things to the best of my
ability.

If I cannot trade between two installs--either with Manamon 1, Manamon
2 or both, does anyone have a work-around for the trading issue?

Another question that has nothing to do with the previous ones is if
anyone has actually written a guide to Manamon 2 yet? Or any guides to
the game what so ever?

Re: [blind-gamers] Give me your thoughts

2020-04-01 Thread Justin Jones
I made it very clear what constitutes "abandonment" in my examples;
there is no ambiguity here, but I will have another go at it:

If you release a piece of software and sell it, then you own that
software and have the right to pursue legal action against people that
crack said piece of software. If you indicate that you are
discontinuing support for that piece of software, but still maintain
your web site and your business, your rights to pursue legal action
still exist. However, if you dissolve your business and shut down your
web site, then you have "abandoned" that software and any legal rights
to it.

I hope this clarifies my position a bit more.

Re: [blind-gamers] Give me your thoughts

2020-04-01 Thread Justin Jones
I'm sorry, I have to disagree with you here. If you, as a developer,
have abandoned, and this is very deliberate wording here, rather than
stopped supporting, again, very specific wording here, you have, in
essence, given up any pretense at ownership. Now, if you, as a
developer, see that there is interest in that old product and you pick
it up again/start selling it on your web site, then the software is
not abandoned.

Short answer: you are not stealing something that has been abandoned
(see above for what I mean by "abandoned").

Since you answered my question, I will answer yours. If someone
"abandons," and not merely mislays/misplaces something, then they have
given up all ownership to it. If I, for instance, have some canned
food that I do not want and simply leave out in my apartment
building's lounge, I have abandoned that property, i.e. given up any
pretense at ownership. If someone abandons a farm and there are still
crops growing there, then those crops are free for the taking by
anyone who wants them. Regarding buildings, that gets a little more
complicated as there are other ordinances that may be in place that
dictates what happens to a building that has been abandoned. Make
sense?

If the developer indeed no longer has a presence/does not support
their software, then the game would be classified as "abandonware."
The answer, most definitively, is no, it is not wrong to crack
abandonware.

You cannot move the log-yet. You will find a tool that will help you do that.

Also, you cannot find all of the coins for the girl until you have
another tool that you will not receive for a long while yet.

[blind-gamers] Manamon 2 - yet more questions

2020-03-04 Thread Justin Jones
Hello all,

I have a few questions:

1. I just got the pocket-coptor back and am unsure where to go. The
game doesn't seem to provide any indication as to what part of the
world I need to travel to.

2. Is there any way to get back to the jungle area you are dropped in
after the events that lead up to you losing the pocket-coptor?

3. Is anyone willing to complete the music mini-games on my save file?
I am terrible at things like that. I know that they are not strictly
necessary to complete the game, but it bothers me that there is
something I cannot complete.

Thanks in advance,
Justin

[blind-gamers] More Manamon 2 questions

2020-01-30 Thread Justin Jones
Hello all,

I have a couple of questions regarding Manamon 2:

1. What is the point of the music hall? With all of the annoying
mini-games? I am terrible at them and am wondering if they serve a
very specific purpose. The NPC in the hall informs me that they are
"semi-optional" and I find that to be a rather unfortunate implication
for someone like me who is not musically inclined.

2. Also, can you do anything with your old Manamon save? Import things?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [blind-gamers] Narrated Video Game Playthrough

2020-01-21 Thread Justin Jones
This is a good idea-especially for all of us who can no longer play video games.

Some suggestions for game ideas:

1. Mass Effect trilogy
2. Dragon Age Origins
3. Monkey Island Special Edition
4. Vampyre (I think that's what it is called)
5. Vampire the Masquerade - Blood Lines

Keep up the good work.

Re: [blind-gamers] Thinking of Trying Alter Aeon Again but Have one Question

2019-12-28 Thread Justin Jones
Actually, you are going to want to train all of your stats up at some
point. Same thing with skills and spells: irrespective of whichever
class you play, there are must-haves for your character. For instance,
even though you might select Warrior as a class and Thief as your
secondary, you are going to still need high enough stats to pick up
spells like Shield, Displacement, Armor, Faith Shield and so on. Or,
if you select Mage, you are going to need skills like Dodge, Parry or
Retreat.

There is one tiny bit of mercy here: if you play a minion-heavy class,
e.g. Necromancer or Druid, you do not have to invest much in the other
minion-heavy class, beyond a few basics. In fact, don't make the
mistake of trying to become a master summoner, e.g. Necromancer/Druid.

I've asked this elsewhere, but how do you find out what certain
Manamon require in order to transform? Is it in the manual? An NPC in

Re: [blind-gamers] Manamon 2 guides

2019-12-11 Thread Justin Jones
Oh good; that will be useful. Thanks.

So, how does one find out the preconditions under which certain
Manamon can transform? In the original game, most of them transformed
once they hit a certain level, but that seems to not be the case these
days. That's fine, and actually makes the game interesting, but I
would want to know how to learn to meet those conditions-preferably in
game, but guides are fine too.

Thanks in advance

[blind-gamers] Manamon 2 guides

2019-12-11 Thread Justin Jones
Hello all,

I am a little confused with some game mechanics regarding Manamon 2.
Maybe I am not far enough into the game to have learned about how to
effectively transform Manamon and the other mechanics, but I am
wondering if someone has put together a comprehensive guide.

Plus, I am a completionist and the invisible items are driving me nuts
(I don't have the kind of patience to walk over every square on a map
and press space; grinding doesn't bother me though, it's relaxing).

Thanks in advance.

Re: [blind-gamers] have had a response from out of sight games about a heros call

2018-05-30 Thread Justin Jones
A whole lot of white-knighting is going on here...

A lesson on business ethics: when a company, Out of Sight Games in
this instance, takes money, they are legally bound to honor the
promises they made. There is no excuse, period, full stop. If they
were having difficulties with honoring their promises, then the onus
is on them to communicate this with their customers. Regarding the
promises made for supporting the Kickstarter for the game, they have
not done this.

Furthermore, and of greater concern, behavior like this does not bode
well for future developers. If someone has a pretty good game ready to
develop and asks for Kickstarter support, the logical inference might
be that the same behavior patterns will be repeated, i.e. promises
made, money taken, promises not kept, annoyed community, so on and so
on. This then has the potential to put off future developers from
attempting to create games because people have become mistrustful of
promises made by said developers. It's a, potentially, vicious cycle.
These are the reasons why, among others, that I refuse to cut these
guys any slack. It's not about the additional in-game items promised
as I did not need any of it to complete the game, rather the damage
behaviors such as these do to the audio game developer community as a
whole.

Re: [blind-gamers] have had a response from out of sight games about a heros call

2018-05-30 Thread Justin Jones
You're assuming that my only issue with Out of Sight Games is with
their poor communication policy. Hint: it isn't.

The fact that Out of Sight Games has not honored most of their
promises to their Kickstarter backers is one of many issues I have.
Thus, I repeat, the damage has been done.

Re: [blind-gamers] not impressed with support I have received for a heros call

2018-05-06 Thread Justin Jones
When you produce a commercial game, i.e. something that someone pays
money for, you have an obligation to your paying customers. That
priority takes precedents over all other priorities, other than
medical ones. This is business ethics 101.
