To see if you have the windows sound scheme selected go to control
panel and find sounds and audio devices. Go to the sounds page and
there is a combo box where you can select the different sound schemes
for your computer. It should say windows default. If it doesn’t, just
press the up or down

Oh, I’m not using Jaws 14 so not sure if there’s anything different.
To answer your previous question, there is a tree view but you only
need to navigate it if you want to change the windows sounds.

Yes. The digital output produces better audio quality by transferring the bits
(all music on a computer is broken down into bits (as is all tother
information)).
If you want to use the digital output you would need to purchase a digital to
audio converter. I am not sure if any of the Sblive
In other words, I need not bother with that treview? Still not sure I
understand _exactly_ what I am to do here!

Tom,
It appears you landed in the right area of the control panel, followed by
the sounds manager. As Rebecca suggested, once you land in that tree view,
arrow either up or down until you hear Windows default. I think that's the
right term, and it's the one Rebecca mentioned. Once you have that
Okay..I obviously am doing something wrong, for what you guys are trying to
tell me isn't matching up with what I'm seeing here; I can open a combo box
and can get to Windows Default..but then when I tab, I'm getting a save
As button! So I try to save it..but it tells me that I cannot save as
just go to control pannel, then click on sounds and audio devices, then
click on sounds tab, and then select the sound scheme you want and press
apply and okay

Never mind the treeview, its a combo box you want with the various sound
schemes -- the treeview is for adding or changing which sound goes with
which event.

Okay then..I have gone to Sounds And Audio, navigated to the sounds page,
opened the combo box and went to Windows Default and then went to OK
(there _Is _no_ apply button showing) no soap; I still don't have the
sounds! Do I need to now restart my computer?

Hi Gary: Thanks for the response; as you'll see during the thread, I've
tried what Rebecca has suggested (provided I understood the instructions
correctly) it hasn't helped as I'm still not getting any Windows sounds:
email sounder, start-up and shutdown..etc! Hopefully there's an easy fix
