[Blind-Computing] can't delete a folder
I’m sure this has come up before, but when I try to delete certain folders, it says I need administrator permission, and I’m on my personal pc. the internet says I can delete the folder if I’m in safe mode, but I believe about 2 weeks ago, someone wrote in that jaws won’t work in safe mode. is this correct, and if so, how can I delete these folders? t For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

I have noticed for quite some time that when I try to click on the comment link it does not open the link I click on. In Internet Explorer 9 / 10 there is the option of having system sounds, as there were in internet explorer 8. These sounds include a sound when a download is complete. By default the system sounds are off. To turn them on: 1. On the tools menu, choose internet options. 2. In the dialog ctrl+tab until you get to the advanced page. 3. In the settings tree view, in the accessiblity group, there's the item play system sounds-off. You can quickly move to this by pressing the letter p. Press spacebar, and the item changes to play system sounds-on. 4. press enter to press the default ok button. Navigating to a default download folder: Using IE9, When you press enter on a download link; You will hear; Notification requires response, Here you would press alt+n, Now if you use your tab key, you would see; Run button, Save button, Cancel button. So, the save button will download the file into the default folder. However, if you wish to change the default download folder, You can press, Ctrl + J, instead of the save button. Now using the tab key move to the, Options link, and press enter. Here you will find a browse button so, press the spacebar on it If you either shift+tab, or tab your way, you will come to a tree-view, Now you can arrow and choose where you want your downloads to go. I'll give it a try. makes no sense that this happens now, when a few months ago, after hitting the title, it asked if I wanted to open or save, I hit save, and the save as page popped up, and this was on win 7. is this a jaws, ms, or bard problem? -Original Message- From: JOHN HUFFMAN Sent: Thursday, May 16, 2013 1:40 PM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] can't download bard books Tom, I've railed against this so-called download manager, too, but seems we're stuck with it in WIN7 and higher. Thanks for sharing this tip with us. Rosemarie -Original Message- From: Mike B. Sent: Wednesday, May 01, 2013 6:38 AM To: Blind Computing Subject: [Blind-Computing] Send To, How To Add Folders / Places To It Every computer user has one specific place or folder in windows where he / she likes to dump all of his / her files and folders. It can be My Documents folder, C drive, D drive, Desktop or anywhere in Windows. In order to put your files and folder at your favourite place, each time you have to follow either of these two classic methods : Note: I know all of you know these basic things, but their is something else which i want to tell you all. Just keep reading it First Method 1. Select your file or folder which you want to move or copy 2. Right click to display a context menu 3. Click Copy or Cut 4. Go to the location where you want to put your file or folder 5. Right click to display a context menu 6. Click Paste Second Method 1. Select your file or folder which you want to move or copy 2. Press CTRL + C to copy or CTRL + X to cut (move) 3. Go to the location where you want to put your file or folder 4. Press CTRL + V to paste it Following the above steps looks easy but when there is a way to speed up the whole process, than why not use that option. Whenever you right click any file or folder, (you noticed or not) their is an option of Send To in the context menu. The shortcut key for it after pressing the application key is letter, N. By default, there are some limited options available in that menu, but you can add your own folder or location over there and than can easily copy any file or folder to your favorite folder or location instantly. But before moving ahead, let's see what the default options available in the Send To menu are. Default Options In The Send To Menu Right click any file or a folder and select the Send To option from the menu. For example, at one of my PC these are the options available in the Send To menu. Let me tell you briefly about the most common options of the Send To menu : Compressed (zipped) Folder : Clicking this option will quickly creates a compressed file (Zip file) and copies the selected files or folders to it. Desktop (create shortcut) : Clicking this option will create a shortcut of your file or folder on the desktop. My Documents or Documents : Clicking this option will create a Copy of the selected file or folder to the Documents folder. Fax Recipient : Clicking this option will allows you to send the file as a fax via the Windows Fax and Scan tool. (you need to configure windows to work like that) Mail Recipient : Clicking this option will allows you to easily attach a file to an e-mail message. (It will only work if you have installed any email client. For e.g. Ms-Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird etc.) CD/DVD RW drive : Clicking this option will create a Copy of the selected file or folder to the CD/DVD drive, so that you can burn your documents easily on the CD/DVD. USB drive : Clicking this option will create a Copy of the selected file or folder to the USB drive (if it's already plugged into your computer) 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) : Clicking this option will create a Copy of the selected file or folder to the floppy drive (if you have that in your computer) How To Add Any Folder In The Send To Menu After knowing much about the Send To menu, now let's see how you can add your favorite folder in it. By doing that you can easily copy your files / folders by simply right clicking it. Note: You can also add Copy To or Move To option in your right click menu, but I recommend that method only to those people who know what they are doing. Go to the location of your favorite folder, Right Click it, click Send To and select Desktop (create shortcut) It will instantly create a shortcut on the desktop of your folder. Now go to your Desktop and Right click the Shortcut folder and select Rename. Just remove the word Shortcut from it or Rename it whatever you want. In Win XP 1. Click Start Menu 2. Click RUN 3. Type, shell:sendto, and click enter. In Win 7 1. Click Start Menu. 2. Type

I asked my brother to open i.e. and see if my homepage openned, which it did, but there was also a pop up about disabling ad ons, so I had him disable ad ons. I then had access to the internet, but now when I go to a page, and use my down arrow to navigate the page, what I know was 1 simple down arrow to the next line, may take 10 down arrows with blanks each click. anyone have an idea of how to get the internet page back to the way it was? tom For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
[Blind-Computing] help with system restore
I saved this reply someone had written on how to perform a system restore, a few months ago, but when I go to “system restore” in my programs menu, nothing comes up like this. I use win 7, i. e. 8, which is why the “restore”, and jaws 12 1. From the system restore window, choose, restore my computer to an earlier time, and tab to the next button, and press enter. 2. Use control home, to move to the top of the page, then arrow downuntil you hear the current month and year. while arrowing down the page, you will hear instructions for restoring your computer. 3. While the cursor is positioned on the current month, shift tab, and you will be on the previous month button. if you want to see the restore points in the previous month, press enter on the previous month button. 4. Follow the above steps to locate the month from which you want to select a restore point from. Each time you select the previous month, or next month, you can use the up and down arrow keys to move thru the text on the selected page. 5. Once you have selected the month you want, from the available choices,, arrow down the page until you hear the day of the week you want. This is where a simple NotePad file of your restore points comes in handy. After making a restore point, if you record this imformation in a file, you can refer to it to see the exact date you want to restore to. This makes it quicker to locate a restore point in the restore point calendar. 6. place your cursor on a day of the week, and then tab until you hear Jaws read a restore point, and from here you can use your up and down arrow keys to see the list of restore points on the page. 7. once you have found the restore point you want to use, tab to the next button, and press enter. 8. Here you should get a confirmation page, so, start at the top of the page, and arrow down to read the imformation. 9. If you are satisfied with your selection, then tab to the next button and press enter. The system restoration should begin. 10. Do not disturb the computer during this process, your machine should re-boot when the restore operation has been completed. There may be a restore confirmation screen presented to you when the machine re-boots, and you can okay this dialogue to close it, and resume using your computer. NOTE: This is how the process went on the system mentioned above using one particular version of Jaws, and does not reflect how Jaws will read the imformation on every system. Re: [Blind-Computing] Deleting books from bard cartridges
it's been some time since you sent me these steps, and when I tried them today, just to see if it would work as you listed, I found that it didn't. I have win 7, and I doubt if the version of jaws should effect operation, but I use jaws 8. after I open my computer there is only 1 drive listed, D, which is for disks, so do you or anyone out there that load books on cartriges from bard, and use win 7 , know how to find the book list on a loaded cartrige? -Original Message- From: Diane Sent: Wednesday, February 27, 2013 8:30 AM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: [Blind-Computing] Deleting books from bard cartridges Here we go. 1. Connect your usable cartridge to the computer with it's USB cord. I use the short cord that goes to my little digital recorder because it is the same kind of cord. It has a big end to plug into the cartridg and a little USB end to plug into the computer. The characters on both ends of the cord are facing up. The cartridge is faceing up the way you would put it in the player. I'm putting this description down in case there is someone who hasn't seen the way this thing goes together. . Go to the desktop. Arrow down to my computer and enter. 3. Arrow down to the drive the cartridge is plugged into. In my case, I have local, CD drive and the burner below it. That is E in my case. When I plug my cartridge in, it says F. 4. Enter on the drive letter your cartridge is plugged into. There will be a list of the books on the cartridge. I start at the top of the list, hold down the control key and hit the spacebar to select the ones I want to delete. That way I don't have to select them without skipping any. I can arrow down and skip one or two in between, if I wish. Holding the left shift key down while you arrow down will select them in the order they are in the list. If I want to get rid of them all at once, which I have done sometimes, I just hit control A, which selects them all to be deleted or moved. 5. After selecting books to be deleted or moved, hit the delete key and it will send them to the recycle bin. I hold down shift and the delet key so that it will bypass the recycle bin. If I want a book again I can download them, anyhow. This whole thing applies to any thumb or external drive. You plug them in and do it the same way. I hope this helps anybody who is beginning with downloading bard books. I have a folder for every letter of the alphabet and one for a music instruction folder. I put all the authors in their separate folders. I am collecting more and more books so that they don't have to be mailed to me. I have lots now. I love my empty cartridges. Re: [Blind-Computing] jaws/pc cursers
thank you. a very good explanation of the jaws curser function On 2/21/13, Mike B. mb69ma...@charter.net wrote: Hi Melissa Tom, Below are explanations of the PC Jaws cursors below that explanations of all 4 Jaws cursors. The keystrokes for routing PC Jaws cursors are: Insert + PC cursor key, = Moves / routes the PC cursor to the Jaws cursor. The PC cursor is the equivalent of the insertion point, or the carat. Whenever the focus changes, for example when you enter a menu bar with the alt key, the PC cursor moves to that location. The JAWS cursor, on the other hand, imitates and actually causes, the mouse pointer to move everytime you arrow with the JAWS cursor. It also offers commands to simulate a left and right click, which can also be used for double clicking. You can also use commands to drag and drop by locking a mouse button down, moving to another part of the window, then unllocking it. Hope this helps. About JAWS Cursors Navigating through Windows with JAWS is accomplished with cursors. These cursors determine the focus of JAWS speech and are often directly linked with Windows cursors. The PC Cursor - Follows Keystrokes This cursor is linked to the keyboard functions of Windows and applications. This is the cursor that is used when typing information, moving through options in dialog boxes, and selecting options or icons. As you type information, the PC Cursor follows along with each key you press. If you are making a selection in a menu or dialog box, the PC Cursor highlights the currently selected object. The PC Cursor is activated by default when JAWS starts. If you are using a different cursor, pressing NUM PAD PLUS returns you to the PC Cursor. The JAWS Cursor - Follows Mouse Pointer The JAWS Cursor is linked to mouse pointer functions in Windows and other applications. It is used to read information the PC Cursor cannot read, such as toolbar information. The mouse follows along with the JAWS Cursor when it is moved, and you therefore have access to information in an application window that is beyond the scope of the PC Cursor. To activate the JAWS Cursor, press NUM PAD MINUS. The Virtual PC Cursor - HTML Environment The virtual PC Cursor mimics the functions of the PC Cursor, but is activated by default when entering an HTML document. The virtual PC Cursor speaks the number of frames in a document, and the number of links in the frame. You can switch between frames, and JAWS reads graphics labeled by alt tags in the HTML code. Invisible Cursor The JAWS cursor is basically the mouse cursor that is visible on screen. The invisible cursor can be moved around just like the JAWS cursor to view information. It works like the mouse cursor but can not be seen on screen or effect objects. Therefore you can not use the NumPad / (left mouse click) or NumPad * (right mouse click) on an object. It is useful to read information without disturbing the mouse cursor. It is also useful to determine colors or whatever might change when the mouse is over an object. It will not cause ToolTips to pop up. Insert + Jaws cursor key, = Moves / routes the Jaws cursor to the PC cursor. Take care. Which version you install will be determined by your system. If your system is 32-bit, then that is the version of Jaws you will need to install. Likewise with a 64-bit system. An easy way to determine the type of system you have is to do the following: 1. Press the Windows key + The Pause key, to open the system properties dialogue. The pause key is usually located near the top of the keyboardnext to the scroll lock key,but this will vary from keyboard to keyboard, especially with laptops. If you are not sure where the Pause key is, then turn your Jaws keyboard help on, with Insert + 1, on the number row, so Jaws will echo the keys as you press them. This is a toggle, so when you are finished, use the same keystroke to turn it off. 2. Route Jaws to Pc, and then arrow down to find the relevant information. Once you have what you need, press escape, or Alt F4 to close the properties dialogue. thank you On 12/14/12, Mike B. mb69ma...@charter.net wrote: Hi Tom, Below are a couple of notes I have saved regarding your question: Restoring your computer using System Restore, and Jaws. This procedure was used successfully with Jaws 6.2, on an eMachine computer, with an Intel 2.8ghz processor, 256mb ram, and 80gb hard drive, with the display resolution set at 50% of the maximum available screen resolution, and color pallet set at highest 32 bit. 1. Close Window From: Gene gsas...@ripco.com Here is more information. I said in my last message that System Restore in XP uses a somewhat nonstandard interface. It appears the interface causes later versions of JAWS to work differently with it than earlier versions. I don't know how much you know about System Restore. My Accessible World presentation gives a lot of information about System Restore for those not familiar with the utility and advises on how to use it in ways that will avoid possible problems such as unintentionally uninstalling programs. If you don't want that much information, you can skim my presentation untuil you get to the parts you want to listen to. But I'll provide some information that may allow you to use it with your current version of JAWS in this message. Your version of JAWS may not allow you to activate certain buttons. You can do so, however, if you do the following: If you are at a button you can't activate, turn off the JAWS cursor with JAWS key z. Then tab or shift tab until you are on the button you want and press the space bar. Then turn on the JAWS cursor again with the same command, JAWS key z. You can now look at the page to see what has changed as a result of you activating the button. Here is a very brief partial description of how to run a restore point. Open System Restore. Issue the command alt n, the short cut command that takes you to the second screen, where you select a restore point. the first screen is introductory and its purpose is to present information to the new user. Once you have issued alt n and are on the second screen, move to the bottom of the screen with control end. Move up about three times using control up arrow. That will get you to about where you want to be much faster than just up arrowing. Look around a bit with the up and down arrow keys. Do you see a restore point? Is it the one you want to work with? If not, then turn off the virtual pc cursor with JAWS key z and start tabbing or shift tabbing. You will find a button that says show the previous day. Press the space bar. Turn on the virtual pc cursor again with JAWS key z. Move to the bottom of the screen again and once again, control up arrow three

Mujtaba, thank you for all your info. i'd always just started writing when the edit box was announced On 11/25/12, Mujtaba Merchant mujta...@gmail.com wrote: Hello Tom, I had to read through the mail history to get to your email message. When replying to an email make sure you are on top of the last message sent. To accomplish this press control + home in the email body of the message or edit box. Is there anyone who can understand the Google audio CAPTCHA? Honestly, we spent forever trying to hear it one afternoon, never got it write and no one seemed to be answering the phone the one time we tried. I don't play phone tag well. Partial hearing loss in the ear most of you use on the phone, can't seem to hold it on the opposite shoulder while I am typing so calling is my absolute last resort and usually I just forget what it was I may have been trying to do rather than call. I hate CAPTCHA! Google's in my opinion is one of the worst I have heard and my husband said he can't read it either. I would not use Google at all any longer, if I were not required to do so at work. They play at accessibility but don't take it seriously, just look at all the clutter on the home page. Here you go with some quick instructions on creating a gmail account NOTE: the same username and password can be used on all your google accounts, i.e. youtube, google maps, google documents etc. 1. Go to www.gmail.com 2. Click enter on the link: Create an account 3. On the next page fill out the form with appropriate details requested Edit boxes by typing the fields, Check boxes by space barring on them, list boxes and combo boxes, you know how they need to be done 4. There will be a challentge in filling the username field, if the username already exists it will tell you that it does, and give you combinations of usernames you may want to choose - use the up and down arrow keys to toggle the options, enter to select, if they are not what you wish you need to type in a new one again in the text box, check again if the username is not already taken. 5. Use the audio captcha, or request a phone verification 6. Check the checkboxes and hit enter on the next button Sorry did not get further from this as I did not want to create another gmail account. If you run into any mess, mail me back at: mujta...@gmail.com Cheers!
