-Caveat Lector- In a message dated 8/17/99 7:21:46 AM Eastern Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Our name was taken in vain the subject article by Al Hidell which appeared in _Paranoia: The Conspiracy Reader_ Issue 21, Fall 1999 (page 28), PO Box 1041, Providence, RI, 02901 [$20.00/year]: "The A-albionic conspiracy research group takes the LaRouche viewpoint a step further. In their view, Britain is indeed a major force working for world domination. However, they believe that there is another force battling Her Majesty behind-the-scenes: the Vatican. In the case of the Balkan conflict, it is interesting to note that the British are on the side of war, while the Vatican has repeatedly condemned the violence." Lloyd Responds:"Al Hidell" has it totally wrong on this one! Lloyd, I believe my assertions are essentially correct, rather than "totally wrong." In the above excerpt you quote, I make three assertions: 1. The current A-Albionic hypothesis is that Britain and the Vatican are engaged in a behind-the-scenes struggle for world domination. This is true. 2. Britain is on the side of the war against Yugoslavia; That is, she actively supported the recent NATO military action. This is true. 3. The Vatican has repeatedly condemned the violence. My statement is true as far as it goes, but it was wrong for me to generalize from this statement that the Vatican opposed the war. Your point that the war fit in with the Vatican's desire to dominate the Eastern Orthodox Church is valid, as is your suggestion that the war fit in with the Vatican's proposed alliance with Islam. Also, I feel that my question "The US: Dominated or Dominant?" is a fundamental way (though certainly not the only way) to compare and contrast at least some of the competing conspiracy theories that are out there. However, I do agree with you that asking "which social/economic power organs are dominant in determining [American] policies at this time?" is certainly a more sophisticated and rewarding line of inquiry. -al DECLARATION DISCLAIMER == CTRL is a discussion and informational exchange list. Re: [CTRL] New York Post Article on Anthrax Mailings
-Caveat Lector- So, I guess anyone caught watching Bewitched may fall under the Anti-Terrorism legislation as supporting terrorism? As many predicted, the label terrorist is expanding, and will probably include just about all alternative or non-mainstream groups in time. Also, I don't understand how anthrax mailed prior to 9/11 would necessarily lead the feds to think it was a domestic group. Source say investigators are eyeing a number of groups, including radical members of a pagan cult. The Wiccan group fashions itself as modern-day witches seeking religious freedom, but they are not known to be violent. [CTRL] Osama Won, But No One Noticed
-Caveat Lector- Osama Won, But No One Noticed Why did Osama bin Laden launch the 9/11 attacks? Most thinking people rightly reject the Bush administration's feeble explanation that he "hates our freedom." Somewhat closer to the truth is that bin Laden hates our decadent Western society and its spread to the Islamic world. However, President Bush saying bin Laden did it because he "hates Britney Spears" wouldn't have quite the same dramatic effect. A more significant motive, though not widely discussed, is America's support of Israel. However, by his own account, bin Laden's top grievance was the presence of American troops in Saudi Arabia, a place of much greater religious significance to Muslims than Israel. Well, in May 2003, the United States announced that it has decided to end military operations in Saudi Arabia by removing most of its forces from the kingdom. The announcement came during Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfelds tour of the Gulf. Sounds like giving in to terrorists to me, though no one seems to be making that connection. In fact, Osama must also be applauding the FCC's recent post-Janet Jackson crackdown on Howard Stern and media indecency. Also, though the United States will never end its support of Israel, it has at least expressed its support for a Palestinian state. Lastly, even if bin Laden's motive was in fact that he "hates our freedom," the erosion of our civil liberties since 9/11 suggests that here, too, the Bush administration is doing just what he wanted. So, the Bush administration's response to 9/11 was, at least in part, to give in to all of Osama bin Laden's demands. Great job. It's no wonder there hasn't been a terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11--it worked the first time. [CTRL] Bush Budget is Incredibly Evil
-Caveat Lector- Let's see, $48 billion more in corporate welfare for defense contractors. More money to the big bankers in the form of interest on the new deficits. More money for the Homeland Clampdown. Reductions in everything else. Oh, and tax cuts for big business and the rich. America's infrastructure (roads, hospitals, flood prevention, schools, and other basic, vital parts of our nation and American lives) has been crumbling for over 20 years, and this budget is a death blow. Is this what it means to Promote the General Welfare? I don't consider myself particularly liberal or anti-Bush, but this budget is really evil and shortsighted. From the Associated Press: Defense is projected to receive a $48 billion boost, the biggest increase in two decades, and spending to make Americans more secure at home nearly doubling to $37.7 billion. To make room for those big gains, scores of other programs from highway spending to environmental projects, would be cut. He pledged to wage a bold agenda for government reform that would eliminate wasteful spending by using for the first time a formal performance rating that determined which government programs were failing to do their job effectively. Bush's proposed cuts include a $9 billion reduction in highway spending, reductions in water projects by the Army Corps of Engineers and elimination of hundreds of education and health projects that lawmakers had won congressional approval for last year for their home districts. Critics contended Bush was wielding the budget knife to protect his most prized economic achievement: last year's passage of a massive $1.35 trillion, 10-year tax cut. Overall, Bush proposes new tax cuts totaling $591 billion over 10 years. Two major reductions involve tax relief for corporations and higher-income individuals that are part of his economic stimulus program that has been stalled in the Senate because of Democratic objections. Bush proposes getting $1.2 billion in new revenue by leasing the drilling rights in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, something strongly opposed by environmentalists...One of the president's savings would be a $9 billion reduction in 2003 in federal payments to hospitals. [CTRL] Why no mention of Padilla's Chicago street gang?
-Caveat Lector- In all the news about Padilla, I have yet to hear the name of Padilla's Chicago street gang. Could it have been the El Rukns? In all the news about Jose Padilla, the alleged dirty bomber, the name of his "Chicago street gang" has been conspicuously absent. This is from a document submitted by the McVeigh defense team. We recently published it in our print mag, PARANOIA: The Conspiracy Reader, and it is also available online at http://www.fas.org/irp/threat/mcveigh/ There is ample precedent supporting the assertion as alleged here that terrorists sponsored by foreign states recruit American citizens for thepurpose of engaging in terrorists acts here in the United States. Suchcountries include Iran and Libya.Libyan efforts to recruit American citizens, particularly black Muslims, aredocumented in the Federal Reporter in United States v McAnderson, 914 F.2d934 (7th Cir. 1990). The McAnderson case involved the prosecution andconvictions of members of a Chicago street gang called the El Rukns, convicted for conspiracy to commit terrorist acts throughout the UnitedStates in exchange for payment from the Libyan government. Id. at 938. Uponhearing that Louis Farrakhan had received $5 million from the Libyangovernment, the leader of the El Rukns actively sought sponsorship fromLibya in exchange for an in kind amount of money. Members of the El Ruknsactually traveled to Libya to meet with military officials of the Libyangovernment. Id. at 939. The El Rukns sought to impress the Libyans and to demonstrate the depth oftheir commitment by discussing specific terrorist acts, among themdestroying a government building, planting a bomb, blowing up an airplane, and simply committing a wanton "killing here and a killing there" to get theLibyans' attention. Eventually, the leader of the El Rukns decided that theLibyans would only be impressed by the use of powerful explosives. Id. at940. The El Rukns attempted to obtain hand-held rockets and rocketlaunchers, LAW rockets, meaning "Light Anti-Tank Weapon" but were ultimatelyintercepted by the FBI andprosecuted. Re: [CTRL] A Look At The Powerful Jewish Lobby In America
-Caveat Lector- Jewish people make up roughly 2% (I've also heard 3%) of the US population, yet numerically they have an extremely disproportionate reperesentation and influence in the legal system, the healthcare system, nass media, entertainment, news, banking and finance, higher education, and politics. Not bad. Admirable, in fact. (To put the 2% number in perspective, in 2000, people aged 85 or more constitutued an estimated 2 percent of the US population. In other words, in a random sampling of Americans, Jews should be about as common as people aged 85 and over.) How did this come to be? To an extent, it is self-perpetuating; if an ethnic group is numerous and influential within a sector of society, a combination of tradition, family expectations, and flat out favoritism will tend to maintain the status quo. Non-whites, non-males, and the poor of any ethnicity have known this all too well. Another factor, one that I and my fellow goyim may not like to hear, is that Jews may simply be as a group more tenacious, clever, intelligent, and creative than non-Jewish people. This is the conclusion that I would probably reach if, say, people 85 and older were so prevalent in the above-named fields and arenas. At any rate, I believe that the disproportionate number of Jewish people in positions of power and influence is not in and of itself sufficient to prove a "conspiracy." The situation would be ominous only to the extent that these people were working for common goals, a "Jewish Agenda" of some kind. Certainly, Jewish PACs are extremely powerful in Washington, and any PAC by definition seeks to influence government and promote a certain agenda. But I am not yet convinced that this extends beyond the political arena. There is no question that bankers, lawyers, entertainment executives et al. pursue certain common goals and agendas. But I believe these are more accurately described as financial, legal, and media industry agendas rather than Jewish agendas. Conversely, I believe that people who criticize the goals and conduct of "the bankers", "Hollywood" etc., should not be smeared with the "anti-Semitic" label. The issue of Jewish power in America is, like the issue of white male power in America, worthy of discussion and debate. Jews are no more and no less worthy of scrutiny than any other segement of society. I think it is simple common sense to assume that groups of Jews conspire to some degree, just as groups of, for example, Freemasons or oil executives conspire. Writing about the latter two is commonplace within the conspiracy community, and even in some mainstream venues. But even a hint of discussion or analysis of the first group is quite rare, even in the realm of so-called alternative media. Look, there is good research and bad research, theories that are plausible and theories that are ludicrous. I try my best to evaluate material along those two lines, regardless of the group that is the subject of the material. And I think freedom of speech is a concept that was meant to protect unpopular and controversial viewpoints, not popular and accepted ones. It rubs me the wrong way to see ANY idea or topic dismissed or censored out of hand, and it seems to me that this is by and large one of those topics. Indeed, as someone who considers himself to be an open-minded supporter of forums for alternative viewpoints, I feel distressed and hypocritical that at first I didn't think this posting was even worthy of discussion, and was even somewhat fearful that I too would be branded with the label of anti-semitism if I expressed myself in this regard. It's ironic, actually, that someonw who regularly criticizes and scrutinizes such baddies as the CIA, Freemasons, Big Oil, etc. would be afraid to address this issue. Re: [CTRL] A Look At The Powerful Jewish Lobby In America
-Caveat Lector- First, I appreciate your friendly response to what was my own "jumping the gun," assuming that you didn't have more things to say beyond your initial response. I think you would agree with me that at this point in time, a significant number of Jews have indeed got past the guardians at the gate and now walk the corridors of wealth and power. If this is true, and one also agrees that Jews do share a common culture to some extent--and also a rather unique and strong bond in light of past persecutions of Jews as a people--I would conclude that there is a de facto network of powerful and wealthy Jews. As you say, it was generally only their overt Jewish-ness that individual Jews had to discard. This implies that there are other, more covert, aspects of Jewish-ness that they retained. I don't mean this to sound sinister; I am just trying to say that it would be a natural thing for such successful Jews to continue to feel a unique bond--and to share some common culturally- or religiously-based goals and beliefs--with their fellow Jews. To that extent, I do feel that there is in fact a powerful network of Jews in America. To use less loaded terms, I believe that there are a number of wealthy and powerful Jews in our society who sometimes agree on and work towards common goals (and, of course, they also disagree on many issues, have conflicts and battles within their community, and ally with or oppose various non-Jewish groups at various times). The key question is, What kinds of common goals do Jews pursue? I honestly don't know. While there are certainly Jews who are committed to Palestinian human rights and who oppose Israeli government policies, I think it's safe to say that a majority of American Jews would like to see a pro-Israeli foreign policy. Beyond that, I don't really know what if any commonalties exist. I would suggest that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. In other words, I think Jewish power does exist and that it goes beyond, for example, the occasional Jewish business leader getting the child of a Jewish friends an internship, but that it falls far short of the comic-book-like scenario wherein all Jews provide robot-like obedience to the dictates of some central Jewish Command Center. I think that Jews in America as a whole (if there really is such a thing) shared a culture of hard work and education â and were close enough to being white to be able to squeeze past the guardians at the gate. I also , in my inimitable manner, pointed out that I don't think there is a powerful good olâ boys network of Jewish wealth. Quite the opposite â the corridors of wealth and power were so closed to Jews, that they had to divest themselves of overt Jewish-ness, so they could play the game with the big boys. Because to the big boys where you come from matters a little less than how big your wallet is. To say you want to examine Jewish power like you would examine the CIA, the freemasons, or big oil, is to perpetuate the very myth that you claim to deny accepting â that being Jewish grants you entrance into some organized group that shares goals ideas methods business contacts and a plan of action â in other words a cabal or conspiracy. I donut think it exists. Re: [CTRL] What Happens When Whites Are No Longer The Majority?
-Caveat Lector- First, I am not saying that I agree or disagree with the posting at issue. Censorship is defined in my dictionary as something done by a public official, so you are corrrect that this action does not meet the formal definition of censorship. (I believe that the courts have addressed the issue of freedom of expression on "public" newsgroups, and the role of newsgroup moderators; does anyone have any information on this?) And certainly, it is not feasable for every newsgroup to accept every posting. For example, CTRL is not the place to post restaurant reviews. However, I believe that the prevention of a certain ideas or viewpoint from being expressed is in fact censorship as that term is commonly understood. On the other hand, I also support the right of newsgroup moderators (or indeed any webmaster) to define limits as to the content they will accept for posting. As a magazine publisher with a website who does not publish every submission, it would be hypocritical of me to criticize a newsgroup moderator for exercising the same discretion. But on the other hand (I think I'm on my third hand), I like to think that I am exercising editorial judgement of the submission as a piece of writing (i.e. is this an interesting and well-written article) rather than rejecting an article because I don't like and/or believe the opinions expressed in the article. As I said, I have no problem that you as moderator determines what's appropriate for this list. However, I hope I am correct in assuming that your first statement applies to the post at issue and not in general. In other words, that you do not presume to determine the truthfullness of every post, and only allow postings that you believe to be true. Using "truth" as a criterion for evaluating posts to a conspiracy group--I hope you'd agree--is not desireable given the fact that most conspiracy theorizing is speculative. Personally, I believe that "plausibility" is a better criterion. I mean, isn't conspiracy theorizing all about challenging the "Truth" that our leaders and media try to impose upon us? Remember reading yesterday or Friday, however, that the coroner ruled this a suicide. This article from the Chicago Tribune says that a Justice of the Peace ruled it a suicide. It seems suspicious to me. http://www.chicagotribune.com/templates/misc/printstory.jsp?slug=sns%2Denron Chicago Tribune Chicago, Illinois January 25, 2002 Former Enron exec found dead Officials: J. Clifford Baxter died of apparent suicide The Associated Press Published January 25, 2002, 11:48 AM CST HOUSTON -- A former Enron Corp. executive who challenged the company's questionable financial practices and resigned last May was found shot to death in a car today, an apparent suicide, authorities said. Police in the suburb, Sugar Land, confirmed the death of 43-year-old J. Clifford Baxter, a former Enron vice chairman. He was shot in the head. We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our friend and colleague, Cliff Baxter. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends, the company said in a statement. Spokesman Mark Palmer had no additional comment. Baxter was vice chairman of Enron when he resigned in May 2001, several months before the energy company's collapse. Baxter was identified by name in the explosive warning that Enron executive Sherron Watkins wrote last August to company chairman Ken Lay. Cliff Baxter complained mightily to (then-CEO Jeff) Skilling and all who would listen about the inappropriateness of our transactions with LJM, one of the partnerships that kept hundreds of millions of dollars in debt off Enron's books. Watkins identified Baxter in a section of her letter stating there is a veil of secrecy around LJM and Raptor, another entity involved in the partnerships. Watkins' letter to Lay stated that we will implode in a wave of accounting scandals unless the company halted practices that eventually sent it into bankruptcy. His body was found at 2:23 a.m. today in a car parked in between two medians in a residential area in Sugar Land. He was in the driver's seat of the vehicle and a police officer stopped to check on him after noticing the parked car. Jim Richard, a Fort Bend County justice of the peace, ruled Baxter's death a suicide. [CTRL] Bush Makes Satanic Hand Gesture, Quotes Necronomicon
-Caveat Lector- Bush Makes Satanic Hand Gesture, Quotes Necronomicon Observers have noted at least three occult references during the coronation of King George. Given the carefully-scripted nature of the event, you can be sure they weren't an accident. The most obvious was the Satanic hand signal given repeatedly by Bush, his wife, and daughters. So, just what the hell does it mean? According to Alex Jones (prisonplanet.com) and others, the symbol represents the horned head of Satan. The sign is also thought to represent the horned god of witchcraft, Pan or Cernunnos. With the thumb placed on the outside of the fingers, it's thought to be a sign of recognition between those involved in occult activities. Apologists claimed the Bushes were simply making the "hook 'em horns" hand sign of the University of Texas football team. Perhaps, but why did they do it so many times? Is a Texas university football team really so important as to be honored repeatedly at a national inauguration? Most significantly, this explanation fails to account for the multitude of prominent figures who have been photographed making the gesture, people who have nothing to do with Texas football. A partial list: Bill Clinton, Paul McCartney, Prince William, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, General Tommy Franks, and even the cartoon version of John Lennon (on the cover of Yellow Submarine). In addition, President Bush publicly referred to the Freemasonic concept of the New World Order for the first time: "We go forward with complete confidence in the eventual triumph of freedom ... When our Founders declared a new order of the ages ... they were acting on an ancient hope that is meant to be fulfilled." The words on the back of the dollar bill, "Novus Ordo Seclorum," which were placed there through Freemasonic influence, are Latin for "New Order of the Ages." Finally, Bush used an odd phrase that cries out for an explanation: "This is the cause that unites our country and gives hope to the world and will lead us to a future of peace. We have a calling from beyond the stars to stand for freedom." A calling from beyond the stars? Are aliens now in charge of U.S. foreign policy? The researchers at cuttingedge.org offer this explanation: "Surprise, it comes from Illuminized Satanism!" The phrase appears in an occult text-variously said to have been invented by the American writer H.P. Lovecraft or written in Syria in 730 A.D.-known as the Necronomicon: "The amulet that I held in my hand, and hold to this very day, around my neck as I write these words, is this: Of the three symbols carved, the first is the Sign of our Race from beyond the Stars, and is called ARRA in the tongue of the Scribe who taught it to me, an emissary of the Elder Ones. In the tongue of the eldest city of Babylon, it was UR. It is the Sigil of the Covenant of the Elder Gods, and will not forget us. They have sworn!" Interestingly, the ancient city of Babylon was located in what is now Iraq. In this regard, researcher William Henry (williamhenry.net) has suggested that President Bush's interest in Iraq may be about more than oil. Henry notes that prior to the U.S. invasion, Saddam Hussein had increased the pace of archeological excavations in his country, in an effort to uncover and disseminate the texts of ancient Iraq. The sands of Iraq, Henry says, cover a commodity much more valuable than oil: ancient occult knowledge and technology.
