[Bug 317828] [NEW] Can't set order of programs in session preferences
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-session Using Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex, up to date as of today, with Gnome desktop. gnome-session package is version 2.24.1-0ubuntu1. In the session preferences, I can't set an order for launching programs at startup. I only have a list of programs (sorted in alphabetical order) with no specific options. It seems that there was an order column in the current session tab in Hardy. In Intrepid I have no current session tab, only startup programs and options. Looks like a regression to me. or maybe the startup programs order/priority is set somewhere else ? I'm not sure this is the same bug as #32194 (wishlist for such an option) as the option seems to have been added sometime before Hardy. ** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Can't set order of programs in session preferences https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317828 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 32194] Re: no way to set order of startup programs
I'm using Intrepid (with Gnome) and looking for a way to set priorities / order for the programs started at the beginning of the session. It seems the option existed before Dapper, was dropped for some reason and reappeared later (I've been told there's an order column in the session preferences of Hardy). Why has this functionnality been dropped (once more ?) and is it planned to be back some day ? Or is there some other way in Intrepid to set an order for programs started at the beginning of the session ? The problem still exists in current Jaunty alpha but I guess it's normal as it still has mainly the same Gnome applications than Intrepid. -- no way to set order of startup programs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/32194 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 298072] Re: No thumbnails for some file types on network shares
What kind of example ? A screenshot ? The problem is quite simple : on a local drive, if I go in a folder containing PDF files, thumbnails are generated. With video files, thumbnails are generated. On a remote drive (either Samba or mounted as SFTP), a folder containing video files generates thumbnails but a folder with PDF files doesn't generate thumbnails for them. While browsing a folder with a lot of video files, I saw there was a process running with thumbnail in its name (I don't remember and can't check now : was like gnome-video-thumbnailer or something). I could'nt check the process running when generating thumbnails for other filetypes but I guess the problem might not be related to nautilus itself but rather to a specific thumbnailer (used for documents like PDF, CBZ or CBR) that doesn't support network access. That's just a theory, I'll check this when my server works again and I have access to my usual remote folders. -- No thumbnails for some file types on network shares https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298072 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Ok. So it seems to be a problem on my system. When browsing a network share (either Samba or mounted through SSH), video thumbnails are generated fine but not some other file types ones : PDF, CBZ or CBR show the default icon instead of a preview. [Bug 298072] Re: No thumbnails for some file types on network shares
Well, reproducible doesn't really apply there. As for specific steps, it just happens, there are no specific steps apart from sharing a folder that contains PDF or CB archives (CBR / CBZ...). It seems like Nautilus can't generate a thumbnail for some file types from the network. It works well with videos and pictures. Is it the same process that creates thumbnails for all file types in Nautilus ? or filetype-specific (i.e. maybe videos are generated by gstreamer, pictures by another process and so on) ? -- No thumbnails for some file types on network shares https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298072 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 71229] Re: Gnome Remote Server applet modifies file permissions
It works better but not completely as expected, although it may be related to the server. I just uploaded a PHP file with 644 permission on an OVH server (OVH is the provider I had problem with). I don't have the PHP problem anymore (the file executes fine) but my file now has permissions 604 (no rights for group). The same behaviour happens with FireFTP (Firefox extension). Also, it doesn't happen with my account on another provider's server (the files keeps 644), so I guess it's an issue with server-side settings at OVH. [Bug 116564] Re: Trash applet : no warning when a file can't be deleted
I've had the problem again and I can now reproduce it. It seems to come from a specific mix of root/user file access in subdirectories. 1. create a directory as simple user : mkdir testfolder1 2. inside this directory, create another one as root : sudo mkdir testfolder2 3. in that one, put a user file (you'll have to move it as root) You then get the following structure : testfolder1 (user) - testfolder2 (root) - testfile1 (user) Put testfolder1 in the trash and try to empty it from the context menu of the Gnome applet: you can't because of the folder with root access and you don't get an error message. Also, You can't move the content of the Trash elsewhere (with Nautilus), you'll have an error message related to access rights. It seems that it's the combination of user inside root inside user directory that triggers the bug. -- Trash applet : no warning when a file can't be deleted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/116564 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-applets in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I'm using Ubuntu Feisty (7.04). A few days ago, I installed Drupal (which is a CMS) for testing purposes. After my tests, I sent the folder to the trash. When emptying the trash today and seeing that it didn't delete all the files, I opened it and selected empty trash from Nautilus but it wouldn't work because some files couldn't be removed (that's where I discovered that I got a ignore/abort message when emptying trash with Nautilus and not with the applet menu). After looking in the remaining files, I saw that a drupal subfolder (css) had a locked emblem on its icon and, thinking it was just a permissions issue, discovered that its owner was in fact nobody. I deleted it as root from a terminal. I don't really know how you can reproduce this problem, but it seems that you can send a file that's not yours in the trash, provided that it's inside a directory that's yours. -- Trash applet : no warning when a file can't be deleted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/116564 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-applets in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I tried the following : 1. create a directory in my home / create a root dummy file in it / move it to the trash and empty the trash. It worked without problem. 2. same thing but chowning the file to nobody (tried to change group too but the nobody group doesn't exist ; I don't remember what was the group of the Drupal folder that triggered the problem). I'm not able to reproduce the original problem (I'll try to reinstall Drupal when I have a bit more time). Why is it rejected ? It doesn't happen for every message and don't seem to be related to something specific (like animated smileys or such in the not appearing message). ** Affects: gaim (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Message don't appear in window until refresh https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104506 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gaim in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 71229] Re: Gnome Remote Server applet modifies file permissions
Same problem. The original file has permissions 0644 (r for everyone, w for owner) and when copied with gnomevfs-copy, it gets 0666. -- Gnome Remote Server applet modifies file permissions https://launchpad.net/bugs/71229 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 71229] Re: Gnome Remote Server applet modifies file permissions
I'm not a command-line power-user and I tend to prefer graphical applications when available. :/ In fact I don't even know what gnomevfs-copy is. Is it the command used by the Remote server applet ? How do I use it to make a test (i.e. where/how do I copy a file with it : on a FTP server, locally...) ? The same goes for the ftp command : I'll first have to remember my student time ten years ago before I can make a test. :) All I can tell for now is that I've stopped using the Gnome applet to transfer file and use the FireFTP extension for Firefox. It works flawlessly, even with the web provider (OVH) whose servers have a strange behaviour. -- Gnome Remote Server applet modifies file permissions https://launchpad.net/bugs/71229 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 72412] Re: Trash applet sometimes wrongly display empty trash option
Nothing like that. I only have one partition on my harddisk (apart from the swap) and it is ext3 I think (the default filesystem used by Ubuntu). -- Trash applet sometimes wrongly display empty trash option https://launchpad.net/bugs/72412 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 72412] Re: Trash applet sometimes wrongly display empty trash option
Yes, the trash is really empty (the folder lists nothing). The only problem is with the label in the menu. -- Trash applet sometimes wrongly display empty trash option https://launchpad.net/bugs/72412 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 72412] Trash applet sometimes wrongly display empty trash option
Public bug reported: Using Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft (Gnome 2.16). It sometimes (randomly ?) happens that the trash applet has the empty trash option active in its context menu although the trash is empty. The icon is ok (empty icon), the only problem is that the menu entry is not greyed out (of course, if selected, nothing happens). Putting something in the trash and emptying it fixes the wrong behaviour (the menu entry is then greyed out). I'm not sure it can be easily reproduced as it seems quite random (perhaps it has something to do with the system booting). I don't think I saw this behaviour with Dapper (6.06). ** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Needs Info -- Trash applet sometimes wrongly display empty trash option https://launchpad.net/bugs/72412 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 47170] Re: About me : can't set user picture
Just for information : the bug is still present in Edgy Eft (Gnome 2.16). -- About me : can't set user picture https://launchpad.net/bugs/47170 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 71229] Gnome Remote Server applet modifies file permissions
Public bug reported: I use the Gnome Remote Server applet to manage several web sites : I mount the FTP server to my desktop so that I can browse it like a local drive. I'm not sure the applet is named Remote Server as I use Ubuntu in French : in my language it is called Se connecter à un serveur distant. It worked flawlessly in Dapper Drake but has a big problem in Edgy Eft. I'm not sur if it's a bug from Gnome 2.16 or its integration in Ubuntu. The problem is simple : whenever I transfer files to a FTP server with this applet, it adds write access rights to anyone. I.e. if I upload a file that has a chmod of 644 (read for everyone / write for owner), it is set to 666 server-side. It is reproducible for every file I upload from Edgy (even using the LiveCD, so it's not related to a modification of my installed system). Files uploaded from the Dapper LiveCD keep their permissions. This behaviour leads to another problem which I've been able to reproduce only with one french web hosting provider and I'm not sure of what is happening (because I don't have access to the server's logs) : after a PHP file has been uploaded on this particular provider's server, it seems to keep its permissions server-side but is inaccessible. After the permissions are manually modified with another FTP client, the file is accessible. I don't know how/why this happens, but I can reproduce the behaviour explained in the first part of the message. ** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Gnome Remote Server applet modifies file permissions https://launchpad.net/bugs/71229 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 47170] Re: About me : can't set user picture
I don't know how (if possible) I can attach a file to this message. I've uploaded one that doesn't work for me at http://abel.thorne.free.fr/vrac/test.png ; note that it has been saved by The Gimp, so I guess it's supposed to be a correct PNG file. -- About me : can't set user picture https://launchpad.net/bugs/47170 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 47170] Re: About me : can't set user picture
Also, I've just made a few more tests : when the picture has bigger dimensions, it gets displayed in the frame, but at a tiny size (I resized my test picture at 100 x 100 : no change, then at 500 x 500 and it gets displayed). But when I quit and relaunch the About me application, the user picture is empty again. I've also tried with the picture that I use as desktop background (2580 x 1932 jpeg file) and I can use it as user picture (although it is also displayed as a tiny thumbnail in the frame). But this big jpeg file is kept as user picture when I quit / relaunch About me.
