Re: [JAWS-Users] convert html to css

Lenny
CSS is nothing more than instructional code to control how HTML behaves.
Your web page is written / structured using HTML.
How that structure looks and behaves is controlled by CSS code.
Hope this helps.

Wish it was that simple to fix. It's definitely not audio ducking. I
even disabled audio ducking for Windows Narrator and still the up and
down volume problem persist.

Hopefully the next JAWS update will address this pain in the you know what.

Well thanks to the Microsoft Upgrade Assistant, I'm now running:
Windows 10 Home Version 1703 OS Build 15063.13

The upgrade went pretty smoothly. Used the [Control]+[Windows Key]+[Enter]
shortcut to bring up Narrator immediately during installation, so I was
able

to do the upgrade myself, without any sighted assistance.

The only problem I'm encountering has to do with JAWS.

The volume of JAWS periodically goes down then back up again while reading
any text. It's pretty damn annoying and it's making me regret this.

I highly recommend anyone using JAWS with Windows 10 to wait on FS to
release an update first, before upgrading to the

Creator's
build. Hopefully they'll take care of the default Windows 10 mail app
problem too.

[JAWS-Users] Accessibility of VLC advanced features: Dynamic Range compressor, Graphic EQ Etc

2017-04-06 Thread Yamuna Jivana dasa
Hi Folks,
I posted this some time ago, not sure if this was seen by list-members.

I am looking to liaise with members on this list that may be using VLC Media
player, which is now quite popular, perhaps more so than Windows Media Player.

We know that with the QT interface VLC is somewhat accessible but things like
access to the screen-draw with Jaws cursor is completely not available to Jaws.
This means in some cases you can access a control via keyboard shortcuts and
make changes, but not see the value of those changes. In my experience for
example, Control up and down arrows (using the pass through first) will change
the volume, but if you want to specifically set it to 0 DB and not go above
that, then you’re out of luck.

Anybody knows of a work-around for these problems? I’m particularly interested
in activating the Dynamic Range Compressor so that my family can watch movies
at a constant level despite the fluctuating dynamics of today’s videos.
Anybody has any tips on how we can do this and have access to the controls of
the compressor such as threshold, ratio, attack, release Etc? I’m an audio
engineer so I know the functions of these controls so no need to explain those;
I just need to know if any of you have managed to find accessibility tips that
could make using these possible in VLC.
Would also be nice if using the equalizer in VLC has some accessibility tips
someone could offer.
Thanks Guys.
I’m using Jaws 14.0 and also 17.0 on Windows 7 32-bit SP1, if this helps at all.
Any Jaws scripts, HSC sets, or just good old advice, anything at all would be
appreciated.
Kind regards to everyone,

Hello, everyone.

I am trying to read a scanned PDF image document using the Jaws convenient
OCR feature, but cannot get the file to convert to a readable format.

If I open the PDF file in Internet explorer, and then try convenient OCR.
I'm told that OCR cannot be started.

I saved the PDf file, and then tried convenient OCR on the saved file, and
got a script error message.

When I access convenient OCR, I use spacebar and Jaws, followed by O for
OCR, and D for document.

I'm using Jaws 18 here with Windows 7.

I don't recall having this problem with earlier versions of Jaws.

Am I missing something?

Tom you are not alone.

I believe the last major Microsoft update this past March changed or
disabled something in Windows that broke JAWS.

I've gone back to using Eudora Pro 7.1 due to my experiencing similar
problems with Windows 10 mail. Amazing how Eudora keeps on ticking after so
many years of not being updated.

Hopefully VFO is working on a fix for JAWS that will address this, and
several other problems people have discussed on this list during the past
few weeks.

Well thanks to the Microsoft Upgrade Assistant, I'm now running:
Windows 10 Home Version 1703 OS Build 15063.13

The upgrade went pretty smoothly. Used the [Control]+[Windows
Key]+[Enter] shortcut to bring up Narrator immediately during
installation, so I was able to do the upgrade myself, without any
sighted assistance.

The only problem I'm encountering has to do with JAWS.

The volume of JAWS periodically goes down then back up again while
reading any text. It's pretty damn annoying and it's making me regret this.

I highly recommend anyone using JAWS with Windows 10 to wait on FS to
release an update first, before upgrading to the
Creator's

build. Hopefully they'll take care of the default Windows 10 mail app
problem too.

The problem doesn't affect Narrator at all. The down and up volume
level adjustment occurs only when JAWS speaks. It is very annoying.
It comes and go sporadically.

Wish it was that simple to fix. It's definitely not audio ducking. I even
disabled audio ducking for Windows Narrator and still the up and down volume
problem persist.

Hopefully the next JAWS update will address this pain in the you know what.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Don't be in a Hurry to Become Creative.

2017-04-06 Thread Kenny
I did it a few minutes after the Update Assistant finished
downloading the files and alerted me to the system Restart.

I only had to bring up Narrator one time using this key combination
and it seem to come up on it's own automatically after each reboot of
Windows during setup.

Now that I think about it?

Has someone tried bringing up Narrator and going through its settings
to enable it to automatically start (Control whether Narrator starts
when I sign in,) before you allow Windows to restart?

I'm curious if Narrator would just come up when your system reboots
without you having to do anything.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Continuing Problem With Navigating E-mail Group

2017-04-06 Thread Kenny

Tom you are not alone.

I believe the last major Microsoft update this past March changed or
disabled something in Windows that broke JAWS.

I've gone back to using Eudora Pro 7.1 due to my experiencing similar
problems with Windows 10 mail. Amazing how Eudora keeps on ticking
after so many years of not being updated.

Hopefully VFO is working on a fix for JAWS that will address this,
and several other problems people have discussed on this list during
the past few weeks.

Hello again, everyone.

I hate to bug the list again, but my recently-emergent problem with
navigating an e-mail group in Outlook 2016 continues.

At least now, I have a bit more information to share about the problem,
since I have had some sighted assistance with the screen.

My problem is that once I'm in the list view for the e-mail group, Jaws no
longer responds as it should when I navigate up and down the list of group
members, using the up and down arrow keys.

The sighted individual who is helping me can easily navigate up and down the
list of members using the arrow keys, but Jaws seems to be stuck on the last
name I have highlighted, and only speaks that name, rather than reflecting
what the arrow keys are actually doing.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for solving this issue.

If I am not verbalizing the problem well, please let me know.

I'm using Jaws 18 with Windows 7 here.

Thank you!

Have you explored your system trey for the culprit. Press [Windows

Review the programs listed in the Programs and Features area too. See

[JAWS-Users] Continuing Problem With Navigating E-mail Group

2017-04-06 Thread Tom Behler

Thank you!

Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan

Hello, everyone.

I am trying to read a scanned PDF image document using the Jaws convenient OCR
feature, but cannot get the file to convert to a readable format.

If I open the PDF file in Internet explorer, and then try convenient OCR.
I'm told that OCR cannot be started.

I saved the PDf file, and then tried convenient OCR on the saved file, and got
a script error message.

When I access convenient OCR, I use spacebar and Jaws, followed by O for OCR,
and D for document.

I'm using Jaws 18 here with Windows 7.

I don't recall having this problem with earlier versions of Jaws.

Am I missing something?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Update your Freedom Scientific products before the W-10 creators update

2017-04-06 Thread Vicki
My only question with using previous versions of Jaws was related to reading
.PDF documents while using Windows 10.

I have found that I have several .PDF documents that JAWS 15 and above,
especially JAWS 18, will eliminate necessary information when reading. The
only way I can get all of the information I need in the document is when I
use JAWS 14. Since one of these documents relates to my bank statement and
several others relate to other documents where I need all of the information
read to me, I was wondering what will happen when I need to switch to
Windows 10 and have no choice but to use a later version of JAWS when
reading these documents.

Well thanks to the Microsoft Upgrade Assistant, I'm now running:
Windows 10 Home Version 1703 OS Build 15063.13

The upgrade went pretty smoothly. Used the [Control]+[Windows Key]+[Enter]
shortcut to bring up Narrator immediately during installation, so I was able to
do the upgrade myself, without any sighted assistance.

The only problem I'm encountering has to do with JAWS.

The volume of JAWS periodically goes down then back up again while reading any
text. It's pretty damn annoying and it's making me regret this.

I highly recommend anyone using JAWS with Windows 10 to wait on FS to release
an update first, before upgrading to the
Creator's
build. Hopefully they'll take care of the default Windows 10 mail app problem
too.

Wish it was that simple to fix. It's definitely not audio ducking. I even

Hopefully the next JAWS update will address this pain in the you know what.

Well thanks to the Microsoft Upgrade Assistant, I'm now running:
Windows 10 Home Version 1703 OS Build 15063.13

The upgrade went pretty smoothly.

Hi All,

A little out of the ordinary, but we do need to have some fun from time to
time! Enjoy!

Keyboard

For a computer programming class, running Windows 7 & Jaws 18, I sat directly
across from someone, and our computers were facing away from each other. A few
minutes into the class, she got up to leave the room. I reached between our
computers and switched the inputs for the keyboards. She came back and started
typing and immediately got a distressed look on her face. She called the
teacher over and explained that no matter what she typed, nothing would happen.

The teacher tried everything. By this time I was hiding behind my monitor and
quaking red-faced. I started to type, "Leave me alone!"
They both jumped back, silenced. "Whaa??" the teacher blubbered.

Then I typed, "I said leave me alone!" The kid got really upset. "I didn't do
anything to it, I swear!" It was all I could do to keep from laughing out loud.
The conversation between them and Eloquence Beginner Highest, went on for an
amazing five minutes.

Me: "Don't touch me!"

Her: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hit your keys that hard."

Me: "Who do you think you are anyway?!" Etc.

Finally, I couldn't contain myself any longer and fell out of my chair
laughing. After they had realised what I had done, they both turned beet red.
Funny, I never got more than a C- in that JAWS certification class.

Take care.

Jaws version of 16, 17 or 18.

What about people who use JAWS 14? I switch back and forth for reasons that
are related to reading certain documents correctly. What if I update to
Windows 10? Will JAWS 14 work correctly with the updated version of Windows
10?

I am still currently using Windows 7, but I know there will be a time when I
need to switch.

Well thanks to the Microsoft Upgrade Assistant, I'm now running:
Windows 10 Home Version 1703 OS Build 15063.13

The upgrade went pretty smoothly. Used the [Control]+[Windows Key]+[Enter]
shortcut to bring up Narrator immediately during installation, so I was able
to do the upgrade myself, without any sighted assistance.

Wish it was that simple to fix. It's definitely not audio ducking. I
even disabled audio ducking for Windows Narrator and still the up and

Hopefully the next JAWS update will address this pain in the you know what.

There's a few ways to fix this.

Regarding your hidden desktop, if you press alt+B, this is a Windows
shortcut to take you to the system tray where you find the time and all the
programs running on your computer in the background.

Tabbing once from this point will take you to a button.

Not sure what it'll say for you, but mine says "Show Desktop" and pressing
enter on this button takes me directly to the desktop.

I'm also curious as to what happens when you press the Windows hotkey of
Windows+the letter M, or Windows+the letter D. Both of these keystrokes
should take you to the desktop.

Regarding your sideways desktop or view, as you heard from someone else,
there's a shortcut key which is control+the arrow keys to rotate your
screen, but you can also do this by going to your desktop and de-selecting
anything that is currently highlighted by pressing control+spacebar.

Once you've done this, you can press your applications key or shift+F10, and
arrow down to "Display settings" and press enter.

In the resulting dialog box, tab to the combo box that says "Orientation"
and press alt+down arrow to open the choices, then arrow up to Landscape or
Portrait, depending on your preference. Tab to the apply button and press
enter.

Once you're done, just alt+F4 out of that window.

Previous editions of Windows used to have the rotation option right in the
first context menu, so you could make the changes that way, but alas,
Windows has done away with this option.

Hope this helps.

[JAWS-Users] Don't be in a Hurry to Become Creative.

2017-04-06 Thread Kenny

Subject: [JAWS-Users] convert html to css

Is there a utility that will convert my html web page to css? I think that I
have over 20 pages or files that would have to be manually rewritten. I
stumble through html it would take me a very long time to try and rewrite in
css. It would be nice if such an animal exists that it also would be jaws
friendly. I would like to add the option for people to change both color and
font sizes for readability.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Thunderbird 52.0 and jaws

2017-04-06 Thread Audiobookfan
I'm running later versions of Windows and JAWS (Win 10 and JAWS 18) and
just updated Thunderbird to version 52. It's working fine for me, but
here's a couple of things for you to try.

First, you may have already restarted your computer, but if not, that's
always a good thing to try.

Also, when I have had trouble reading the list view, I've found that
checking the View menu sometimes helps. Try the Sort by, Threads and
Headers menu options.

Hope this helps.

Sorry Folks,

Hi All,

A little out of the ordinary, but we do need to have some fun from time to
time! Enjoy!

Keyboard

For a computer programming class, running Windows 7 & Jaws 18, I sat
directly across from someone,
and our computers were facing away from each other. A few minutes into
the class, she got up to leave the room. I reached between our
computers and switched the inputs for the keyboards. She came back and
started typing and immediately got a distressed look on her face. She
called the teacher, Professor Ferrin, over and explained that no matter what
she typed,
nothing would happen.

The teacher, Professor Ferrin, tried everything. By this time I was hiding
behind my
monitor and quaking red-faced. I started to type, "Leave me alone!"
They both jumped back, silenced. "Whaa??", Professor Ferrin blubbered.

Then I typed, "I said leave me alone!" The kid got really upset. "I
didn't do anything to it, I swear!" It was all I could do to keep
from laughing out loud. The conversation between them and Eloquence Beginner
Highest,
went on for an amazing five minutes.

Me: "Don't touch me!"

Her: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hit your keys that hard."

Me: "Who do you think you are anyway?!" Etc.

Finally, I couldn't contain myself any longer and fell out of my
chair laughing. After they had realised what I had done, they both
turned beet red. Funny, I never got more than a C- in that JAWS
certification class, & I've now been put on moderated status, if not kicked
off the list!
Take care.
