Hi,
If, you read the mail from Eric Damrey from Freedom a week a go, there was a
new jaws update to install over the jaws 18 version ending in .4321, this
would fix the auto complete problem,

[JAWS-Users] Google Chrome

2017-10-19 Thread Kelsey Nicolay

Sent from my iPhone
Hello,
I was hoping someone could help me out. I am using a Brailliant Bi 40 with
JAWS. I have both 17 and 18 on my computer, but I primarily use 17. I am having
an issue where I cannot input any Braille in Google Chrome. I can't even do
computer Braille. The characters show on my Braille display, but they aren't
actually getting enters into the edit field. I tried it with both 17 and 18 and
get the same results. I contacted Humanware and they said they haven't heard of
this happening, but they have escalated it to their development team for
further investigation. A friend of mine who uses a Focus reported no issues
with Braille input in Chrome. Therefore, I was wondering if other Brailliant
users are experiencing the same issue. Also, if anyone uses a Braille Edge 40
from Hims, are you having this issue? I'm using Internet Explorer now, but my
employer recommends Chrome since it works the best with their software. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Kelsey Nicolay

Hello Vicki,

In addition to the many suggestions you received, I thought I would
mention that when using Word you can use a combination of Word keystrokes
to produce several accented characters. Further down in this message is a
table of some of them.

In Word, you can use AutoCorrect to always use the accent you want. Go
into Word options. In the category list arrow down to the Proofing
category. Tab to the AutoCorrect button and use spacebar. In the Replace
edit combo box type the spelling without the accent. Tab to the With edit
box and type the word with the accented characters. Use the OK button
until back in the document.

For example, You could use Therese in the Replace box and then use the
accent on the first E when typing in the With box. If the first E is an E
grave you would type it by using CTRL with the tilde key followed
immediately by the E.

To produce

Press

à, è, ì, ò, ù
À, È, Ì, Ò, Ù

Ctrl+` (grave accent), the letter

á, é, í, ó, ú, ý
Á, É, Í, Ó, Ú, Ý

Ctrl+' (apostrophe), the letter

â, ê, î, ô, û
Â, Ê, Î, Ô, Û

Ctrl+Shift+^ (caret), the letter

ã, ñ, õ
Ã, Ñ, Õ

Ctrl+Shift+~ (tilde), the letter

Ä, ë, ï, ö, ü, ÿ

Ctrl+Shift+: (colon), the letter

å, Å

Ctrl+Shift+@, a or A

æ, Æ

Ctrl+Shift+&, a or A

œ

Ctrl+Shift+&, o or O

ç, Ç

Ctrl+, (comma), c or C

ð, Ð

Ctrl+' (apostrophe), d or D

ð, Ð

ø, Ø

Ctrl+/, o or O

I personally always found it easier and faster just to remember the

alt-key

combinations. This may be difficult though, depending on how many accents

you need to use. I mostly use french ones, which are most acute and grave

accents between 130 and 140 or so. So, to type an acute lower case e, for

instance, you would hold down the alt key, and type "130" on your number

pad. Not sure how this works in Windows 10 yet, but XP let you access a

character map where you could search for and see the number values for
all

accented letters and symbols that are not available on the standard

keyboard.

Doesn't matter, you could eliminate the Jaws icon, what they are on your
desktop are shortcuts; they are a convenience but they aren't the actual

I don't know which version you had before, but possibly someone re-named it

You can run multiple versions of Jaws, e.g. I often run Jaws 16 for some

Re: [JAWS-Users] adding accent marks with JAWS

2017-10-19 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Vicki,

In addition to the many suggestions you received, I thought I would mention
that when using Word you can use a combination of Word keystrokes to produce
several accented characters. Further down in this message is a table of some
of them.

In Word, you can use AutoCorrect to always use the accent you want. Go into
Word options. In the category list arrow down to the Proofing category. Tab
to the AutoCorrect button and use spacebar. In the Replace edit combo box type
the spelling without the accent. Tab to the With edit box and type the word
with the accented characters. Use the OK button until back in the document.

For example, You could use Therese in the Replace box and then use the accent
on the first E when typing in the With box. If the first E is an E grave you
would type it by using CTRL with the tilde key followed immediately by the E.

[JAWS-Users] Still Unable To Navigate An E-mail Group In Outlook 2016 after latest Jaws Update

2017-10-19 Thread Tom Behler
Hello again, everyone.

As I reported earlier, I just updated my Windows 7 laptop here to Jaws
18.0.4350.

I was hoping the update would solve a problem that I have been experienceing
with e-mail groups in Outlook 2016.

Basically, for the past few months, I have found myself unable to navigate
the names in an Outlook 2016 e-mail group via the up and down arrow keys. I
used to be able to do this with no problem.

Now, it is very difficult to determine exactly who is in an e-mail group,
which, of course, leads to difficulties when trying to update or edit the
group.

Has anyone else experienced this issue, and if so, have you found a fix for
it?

Again, I'm using Jaws 18.0.4350 with Windows 7 and (Outlook 2016.

[JAWS-Users] Interesting Desktop Icon Issue After Updating To Jaws 18.0.4350

2017-10-19 Thread Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.

I just updated my Jaws 18 here to the latest Jaws 18 build-version
18.0.4350.

On my desktop, I now have two Jaws icons. One simply says Jaws, and the
other says Jaws 18.0.

Is this normal?

If I wanted to eliminate one of these icons, which one would it be, or
should I just leave well enough alone?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sure! he's running Windows and MAC OS on that system. Apple provides a

Vicki,

JAWS makes a number of accented letters available in a list that you
access

by pressing JAWS key+4 on the number row above the letters. You arrow down
the list or navigate by first letter, then press enter on the one you
want.

Not all symbols are in the list, so it has limited use.

I'll leave it to others to explain how to assign a keystroke to produce a
given accented letter.

Is there a way to have JAWS automatically add accent marks in a foreign
language word when writing in English?

For example, if I were to write the name Therese which is a French name
but
I am writing the document in English, can the correct accent marks be
either

added or automatically set to add any time I write the name?

If I need to add them manually, how can I locate them on the keyboard? Not
all of them are on the standard typing keyboard.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks.

Good morning, folks Brian Zolo here in Gahanna, Ohio. I just purchased a

1. I've made the Logitech h540 headset the default sound device but when I

issue I'm having concerns the microphone. Right now, I'm having to use the
microphone the internal microphone on the laptop as when I've attempted to
use the headset microphone, I'm just not ketting good microphone quality.
We're having issues as we're in a hotel right now using Verizon mifi and
we're just not getting good signal which is creating problems. Any
suggestions on how to address these audio issues will be greatly
appreciated. The audio quality for listening is great but the microphone
seems to be the weak link in the headset. Any assistance will be greatly
appreciated. I'm on skype, my skype id is brianzo1. Have a great day!

clear, you need first to turn the numlock off for the alt combinations to be
accepted, and then turned back on for JAWS to work." Actually it's the
opposite, To be clear, you need first to turn the numlock, on, for the alt
combinations to be accepted, and then turn back, off, for JAWS to work.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

To be clear, you need first to turn the numlock off for the alt combinations to
be accepted, and then turned back on for JAWS to work.
Note that for many symbols/characters, I need to put them in the JAWS
dictionary to have them spoken. How many may vary from synthesizer to
synthesizer.

I personally always found it easier and faster just to remember the alt-key
combinations. This may be difficult though, depending on how many accents you
need to use. I mostly use french ones, which are most acute and grave accents
between 130 and 140 or so. So, to type an acute lower case e, for instance, you
would hold down the alt key, and type "130" on your number pad. Not sure how
this works in Windows 10 yet, but XP let you access a character map where you
could search for and see the number values for all accented letters and symbols
that are not available on the standard keyboard.

Vicki,

JAWS makes a number of accented letters available in a list that you access by
pressing JAWS key+4 on the number row above the letters. You arrow down the
list or navigate by first letter, then press enter on the one you want.
Not all symbols are in the list, so it has limited use.

I'll leave it to others to explain how to assign a keystroke to produce a given
accented letter.

Is there a way to have JAWS automatically add accent marks in a foreign
language word when writing in English?

For example, if I were to write the name Therese which is a French name but I
am writing the document in English, can the correct accent marks be either
added or automatically set to add any time I write the name?

If I need to add them manually, how can I locate them on the keyboard? Not all
of them are on the standard typing keyboard.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks.

Vicki

Re: [JAWS-Users] Mac Virsus PC's

2017-10-19 Thread Jason White
Yes, although I haven't tried it - I don't run Microsoft Windows on my Mac.

There are two approaches. The first is to use BootCamp, which essentially
installs Windows alongside Mac OS. While the machine is booting, you can use
keystrokes to control which operating system is loaded.

The second approach is to install virtualization software (e.g., VirtualBox
or VMWare) under Mac OS, then run Windows, JAWS etc. within the virtual
environment. This allows you to switch between the two operating systems
without having to reboot the machine.

Actually, somebody on another list claims that he is successfully running
JAWS on an Apple Mac using a dual boot configuration. Is this possible?

It's time to take this subject off-list since Jaws does not run on Apple

Re: [JAWS-Users] Mac verses Jaws and Windows

2017-10-19 Thread Nathaniel Kile
Hello,
I would say that the Mack is great, I have 3, but they are different and you
will want to think about them much differently, especially if you are
technically challenged. There is a different approach to using Voice Over on
the Mac and this being said, Mac has adopted many things that Windows and
JAWS do because of the difficulty of using Voice Over, more so when you are
switching from JAWS to Voice Over, it would almost be easier if you were
starting from scratch.
For instance, simply checking the time and the window that you are in is not
just a quick one step keystroke, many keystrokes will take three and four
finger keystroke combinations to perform. It is not like NVDA VS JAWS, even
the Google Chrome book is closer to JAWS than Voice Over. Is Voice Over
accessible? Yes absolutely, but will you be challenged? Yes absolutely.
I am not saying not to buy one, I am saying to keep in mind that there is a
learning curve and you will take many months to be up and running and that
is if you use it every day, moreover, it will take much, much longer to feel
at home with it. There is a great web resource, apple vis, it is an Apple
community of blind users and they have dozens of free tutorials that will
take you lesson by lesson on using the Mack with voice over.
Here is a link to an Apple Vis page title, Getting started with your first

A good number of people like it. I personally would not consider switching,
not because of JAWS (NVDA is great really, in its own way, too) but because
of the OS, but then I don't really like Apple products in general. My best
advice is to try it out before you go out and buy a computer. Get a feel for
it and see what you think. You may find the experience a pleasant one, and
in that case it'll totally be worth taking the plunge, so to speak.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Mac verses Jaws and Windows

Hi everyone,

So I currently use Jaws on my work computer, with windows who knows what,
I'm technologically challenged.
I want to buy a home computer and am looking at the MacBook's because I love
my IPhone.
My question is, is anyone out there able to give me an idea of how I might
find the Mac, keeping in mind I use Jaws every day?
I know this is a Jaws list, but I guess I just don't want to go out there,
buy a Mac and find it is not as user friendly as my good old faithful Jaws.

P.S. I have looked all over the net and into mac sites etc. but I'm just
trying to cover all my bases so to speak.

Thankyou in advance.

Kind Regards
