I use jaws key F10. That gives me a list of all open windows. I just arrow up and down through the list. The alt, tab, only switches between the last two windows that I visited. For example, if you have two Word documents opened at the same time and taskbar buttons are combined, you will not have a button for each document, but only a single button representing Word that will bring up a list in which you'll be able to select the document in which you're interested. By the way, this combo box sets wetter buttons are never combined, always combined or only when taskbar is full, that is, when no more items fit on the screen area reserved for the taskbar according to your screen resolution, DPI scaling and related factors. But luckily there is, unlike about many other areas in Windows 10, a well documented help topic that you can access by a link in the Taskbar Settings category which reads something like “How taskbars are customized?”. The link says taskbars in plural, because you can have multiple taskbars with different items, both on multiple monitors or multiple virtual desktops. As you can see, although Control Panel is being replaced with Settings and the old dialog for taskbar is almost faced out, fortunately most concepts regarding these options aren’t so different from the fundamentals you may be familiar in previous Windows versions. First, in the Taskbar settings that you can quickly open by pressing ALT+ENTER on the Start button, there's a combo box on wetter taskbar ALT+buttons are combined or not. This setting was previously available on the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box. Second, since Windows 10, in the System\Multitasking category of the Settings app, theres a combobox to choose if pressing ALT+TAB moves through windows of the current desktop or all of them. If you use multiple desktops, you may need to adjust this setting in order to be able to alt-tabbing between windows on all of the open virtual desktops, not only the currently focused one. Im sorry for not telling you exact names of the settings. I don’t have an English language pack to actually check them. Regarding taskbar-related keyboard shortcuts with the Windows Logo key, WINDOWS+TAB was used in Windows XP and earlier versions to set the focus WINDOWS+on the first and subsequently the next item of the taskbar. In Windows Vista and 7 this shortcuts stopped working, unless you had Windows Aero enabled. The original hotkey, in Windows Vista and later, was changed by WINDOWS+T. In Windows 10 WINDOWS+TAB also shows open windows, but on the Task View instead of the Taskbar. In addition to showing open windows, Task View allow to create and close virtual desktops, as well as moving windows between open desktops. In Windows 10 version 1803, which is currently in preview and will soon be released to the general public, the Task View also allows to manage the Timeline, a feature which group different program windows related with a specific user work, such as the different Word documents, Outlook or Mail messages and Edge websites related to a given research, novel etc. Hope it helps! -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List <jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com> On Behalf Of Justin Williams Sent: Saturday, March 24, 2018 4:45 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] task bar I've noticed, that from time to time, like right now, I can't alt tab through the different application on the task bar, like if I have 8 open, I can only see one or two. Hi, Windows+T will cycle through Taskbar icons, including pinned programs, running programs and what not. In contrast, Windows+Tab will do different things depending on which Windows release you've got: * Windows prior to Vista: moves focus to Taskbar. * Windows Vista: cycle through open programs via AERO Flip 3D. * Windows 7: Peak at running program icons. * Windows 8.x: cycles through running Windows Store paps. * Windows 10 versions prior to 1803: display a grid of open windows and manage virtual desktops. * Windows 10 Version 1803: shows a grid of open windows, manage virtual desktops, and a feature I'll be demonstrating on March 26th Tek Talk. Re: [JAWS-Users] task bar
Hi Mike, Combining taskbar buttons means joining buttons belonging to different open documents in a given program on one single button. Hope it helps! -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List <jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com> On Behalf Of Mike B. Hi Joseph, I've been using Windows key + T, with both Windows 7 & 10, & it works great. Pinning program shortcuts to the Taskbar works much better & more reliably than assigning shortcut keystrokes to the same programs. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sennt from my iBarstool. How about in the future, differentiate which keyboard layout is being used when sharing tips about keystrokes. It would help immensely. This is what I found for Windows 10. But as I said, I prefer the Windows-tab command because alt-tab does not seem to cycle through all programs. Re: [JAWS-Users] task bar
Hm. I just googled and google said: Windows 7 keyboard shortcut keys General keyboard shortcuts Alt+Tab Switch between open items Ctrl+Alt+Tab Use the arrow keys to switch between open items Windows logo key +Tab Cycle through programs on the taskbar by using Aero Flip 3-D As I said, it's been several years now since I've used Windows 7, so I googled again and found: HOW TO USE FLIP AND FLIP 3D IN WINDOWS 7 When you have many windows open in Windows 7, you can use the Flip and Flip 3-D features to quickly organize your applications. Flip and Flip 3-D, like Aero Peek, allow you to view what is happening in all of your open windows and shuffle them so that the one you want is on top. FLIP To use the Flip feature, hold down Alt and press Tab. Windows 7 displays a panel in the middle of the desktop showing thumbnails of each open window. Each time you press Tab, a different one of the windows is selected and its name appears at the top of the panel. When you release the Alt key, the panel hides again and the last window selected becomes the open window on your display. If you want to take your time scrolling through the open windows, hold the Ctrl key down while you press the Alt and Tab key. The thumbnail panel will open and stay that way even after you release all the keys. This allows you to use the right and left arrow keys to find the one you want. When youve highlighted the window you want to work with, press Enter to close the panel and display the selected window on the desktop. FLIP 3D To use the Flip 3D feature, hold down the Windows logo key (the key with picture of a waving flag divided into four parts) and then press the Tab key. All the open windows will cascade across your desktop in 3-D. Flip through the cascading thumbnails by continuing to press the Tab key. When the thumbnail of the window you want appears at the front of the stack, release the Windows logo key. Your windows will all lay back down with the window you want on top. As with Flip, holding the Ctrl key down while activating Flip 3D ensures that the windows remain cascaded across your desktop while you peruse them with your right and left arrow keys. When the window you want to access is at the front of the stack, you can press Enter to close the stack and display its window on top of the desktop. http://www.dummies.com/computers/operating-systems/windows-7/how-to-use-flip -and-flip-3d-in-windows-7/ HTH. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B. Re: [JAWS-Users] Task Bar
The way to get to the taskbar that is built into windows is by pressing the windows key along with the letter T. From there, left and right arrow keys will move across the various icons of the task bar. JAWS users have an additional hotkey, which is insert-f10, which gives you a list of all open windows. Re: [JAWS-Users] Task bar keystrokes?
Cool I don't have to worry about flip 3-d. Thanks Brian for explaining it to me. Patti Hi Patti, Flip 3D displays Windows in a stack. It is part of the aero theme. It is a visually-pleasing display of open files and folders or other windows to a person looking at the screen. A mouse user doesn't have to click the taskbar to see the open windows as they are presented in a stack on the screen. The top of the stack shows one open window and a person using a mouse can quickly flip between the other stacked windows. When flip 3D is active then a person can use up or right arrow key to move forward one window at a time and left and down arrow keys to move backward one window at a time. Again though, although there are Windows 7 keystrokes associated with this Windows element, it really doesn't benefit JAWS users. Alt+tab displays each windows thumbnail in Windows 7 or each window's icon in XP and is the best method for JAWS users to cycle between open windows. The person who wrote the Email that I was responding to just asked for keystrokes specific to Windows 7 and so I sent the list I had for those keystrokes relevant to the taskbar. Again, mouse users do not have to click on the taskbar if they are using the aero theme and have started flip 3D. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Task bar keystrokes?
Hi. All the open program's are only represented on at part of the taskbar, and these you are cycling between with alt+tab. Jaws gives the ability to access the taskbar icon's by pressing insert+f11 and if you want's to se a list of active window's, you can press insert+f10. If you don't want to access any of the icon's you're seeing, than just press escape, and you are back agaiin. Hope this clarifies the subject a bit for you. Re: [JAWS-Users] Task bar keystrokes?
pressing alt and tab in succession will cycle thru the last two open aps whereas holding down the alt key and repeatedly pressing tab will cycle thru all apps open in the task bar. WindowsLogoKey+tab will put focus on the task bar. From here the apps open in the task bar can be navigated with the arrow keys. When focus is on the start button, hitting the tab key by itself will cycle thru start button, task bar, system tray, desktop and back to the start button. hth Doris At 01:49 PM 12/6/2010, you wrote: Hi all, If I hold down the alt and hit the tab key, it cycles through all of my open programs.
