Still I manage to get the program working for the step list the topics.

I have downloaded your new source and compiled it but if I hit create I
get a error about the XML not being valide.

I saved the output in a memo and pasted that in to a document.
There was nothin invalide about this XML. So I gess it's the parcer that
is faulty.
You say you use SVN lazarus right. I gess I need to refresh my XML pare
unit so it works beter.

Just to make sure that's the case you can import something from the osF

The xml parser is part of fpc so use an snapshot of lazarus with fpc 2.1.1
there are these bugs fixed.

I downloaded synapse to het the HTTP part working.

I would suggest we move this over to a ini file or something like that.

Is there in 0.9.20 another property that holds the content of

I tried iNode.NodeValue but its not what I need.
I will have to get up to speed on the SVN pulling of Laz.
Im working hard on the new interface for Stock items in OSF si I can get
rid of this ttable components and speed up thing. Some people have
1+ items and are now waiting to long for the data to load.

If I find some time to kill I will investigate the SVN so I can be in

cant see this property in the XML node. What version do you use?

I use 0.9.21 most dayly actual svn and an own build fpc 2.1.1 mostly not

older than an month ...
Is there in 0.9.20 another property that holds the content of
MyXMLNodeThis content the TextContent Property gives/MyXMLNode if
you find an property in 0.9.20 that gives these content we can change
it.

I downloaded synapse to het the HTTP part working.

From analizing the source I can see it's a language problem.
The first is this line in the scan button
 http.HTTPMethod('GET',eWikiPage.Text+'Spezial:Allpages');
 Mine is

OK, i will make an property of this thats stored in the xml property
file

I would suggest we move this over to a ini file or something like
 that.

the propertys you can set are already stored in an xml file so we can

As this is the case with all language specific wiki's.
I see some code that looks if its english or German.

I agree that the IDE documentation, as well as the Object Pascal language
reference, are indeed good candidates for a wiki-based help system.

It seems your wiki export tool can be of great help here. Actually we [i.e. at
the office] use a similar script, in php, for the documentation of one of our
products as well. It is very useful when one wants to remove wiki-specific
functionality (edit, discussion, versions), add custom things like
automagically generated navigation links, and to make it suitable for offline
viewing.

BTW our tool fetches the pages from the wiki recursively and parses it with a
standard XHTML parser. Manipulations are done on the DOM (Document Object
Model). It also replaces the CSS and Javascript stuff. For syntax highlighting,
we integrated GeSHi into MediaWiki (so the highlighting is both in the wiki and
in the export). I can't share the source with you I'm afraid, but off course
you are free to borrow ideas ;)

Note: MediaWiki makes it very easy to create hooks, e.g. for the CODE tag to add syntax
highlighting. I believe adding custom tags like NOTE, WARNING, TIP etc.
shouldn't be too much of a problem too, though we used some CSS for that.

You give WikiHelp an url and it downloads the wiki pages recursively ? In this
case, how is it different from wget ? Does it also allow browsing of the
downloaded pages?

Some screenshots and a longer description (in English...) would help people
understand what WikiHelp is about.

The idea of having a tool for having a local copy of the wiki is a good one,
for at least these reasons:
- all of the Lazarus articles, tutorials, etc are on the wiki
- some people don't have web access all the time
- browsing a local copy of the wiki is faster , assuming that browsing is done
with a viewer called from within the ide. (Reading the local copy of the
wiki with a web browser wouldn't be good enough, and it wouldn't be worth
  the trouble).

I have no idea how would WikiHelp fit into this .

About translations, I always feel awkward reading Dutch translations of
programming related documents and most of the time I need to translate
them back to English (mentally) to understand them. So as far as I am
concerned translating is not necessary. Other people disagree, see the
translations on the lazarus wiki.

I absolutely agree with you, Dutch translations are usually awkward to read ;).
But I think is is partially due to our English-orientedness. Perhaps in other
countries, people are more dependent on their native language, and maybe hardly
understand any English.

On the other hand, maintaining documentation in different languages has certain
disadvantages.

Documentation, in particular of APIs, is like a 'contract' to which the code
should obey; in this regard is is best to consider one language version as
authoritative; the others would have to be translated from this version. As
English is probably understood best by most users, it is reasonable to make
this the authoritative language for all FPC/Lazarus documentation.

If a change or addition is made to the documentation, it will have to be
reflected in the translations as well. We will need some way to deal with that.
For example, the English version can have revision numbers, and of translated
versions, one could indicate up to which English revision it is up-to-date ---
if this is not the latest version, a user might want to look at the English
version; some 'diff' tools would be very useful here as well.

Conclusion:

Advantages:
- can attract more users
- can help people having problems with English to write better code, as they
now have documentation in their own language

Disadvantages:
- requires effort to keep translations consistent
- requires adaptation of help system
- people understanding English might tend to still use that version instead of
the one translated to their native language
- people might spent time and effort on translating documentation instead of
improving Laz ;)

I intend to extend fpdoc generated pages so they point to a wiki pages
where correction and additions can be made (this is long term) though.
When we make a lazarus 1.0 release, we can use httrack to extract all
data from the wiki and add that as documentation.

It would be very nice if people could edit documentation in a convenient way

As far as I know the best way to create documentation is using lazdoc and
lazde. It can generate html, which can be transformed to chm. (ms hmtl

CHMHelpViewer the content can be shown.

maybe its easyer to use html directly.

htttrack copys also wiki menus and such stuff wikihelp does this not its

to have only the contents of the wiki as html.

But i think the help must be translateable and this is my question :)

You can see that its better to have the Help in native languages at the
wiki.
The Tarnslations goes on very well if the users would see this like you then
nothing would be translated in the wiki.

I agree that the Lazarus Help system could be much easier to use. As a
newcomer, to me it seems to lack a lot of content. This is the stuff that
is obvious to the experienced people, but requires a lot of research,
reading of inc files, etc, by beginners and anyone working in an area that
is new to them. I would like to help, but need some more time digging down

PS
English is weird...
According to answers.com terrific is defined as:

  1. Very good or fine; splendid: *a terrific tennis player.*
  2. Awesome; astounding: *drove at a terrific rate of speed.*
  3. Causing terror or great fear; terrifying: *a terrific wail.*
  4. Very bad or unpleasant; frightful: *a terrific headache.*

so, can it mean the opposite of itself? ;-) (I point this out because I
knew def 1,2)
