They would just be separate executables. I don't think most users would even notice the difference, except for the fact that these windows could stay open while you were off working on something else in Legacy. P.S. RE: [LegacyUG] Correcting faulty Legacy 5 update install
Ian, To go back to Legacy v5 after having installed Legacy v6: 1. Uninstall Legacy 6.0. This will not delete any of your family files, pictures or other data. It will only remove Legacy 6.0. 2. With Windows Explorer find and look in the C:\Legacy folder or what ever folder you had Legacy installed in. Within this folder you will find several files remaining that you will need to delete. Carefully delete all of the files in the Legacy folder but DO NOT delete any of the folders like the Data folder, Picture Folder or Web Folder as these folders hold your data and you don't want to accidentally delete your family file or pictures. All the other files should be deleted. 3. Use this link and download and install the final build of Legacy 5.0. http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/helpDownloadVersion5.asp The password required when Installing is: Password: family 4. Start Legacy 5.0 and click on Help, Unlock Deluxe Edition and enter your version 5.0 Deluxe Edition Customer Number. With the latest build of Legacy v5, you'll have no problems opening files that were opened in Legacy v6. Thanks for using Legacy. Winifred, You could always get a new copy of the Version 5 Install program then and save it to the Download Folder. Previous versions of Legacy can be downloaded from http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/helpDownloadVersion5.asp. The proper full install version is the second choice and is 16.4 MB. The first is a smaller program that will download files from the web as it does the install. Re: [LegacyUG] Correcting faulty Legacy 5 update install
Regrettably, v6 requires substantially more resources than v5 and will prove a losing battle on machines below XP. The future bodes no better. I believe that your file will still work correctly after installing the last available build of v5; you can always install it before removing v6 to be sure (backing up everything first, of course). Re: [LegacyUG] Correcting faulty Legacy 5 update install
Brain When I click on Legacy5 to open it, Windows XP comes up with this: Open File - Security Warning. Name: Legacy.exe Publisher: Unknown Publisher Type: Application From: C:\Legacy. Run Cancel At the bottom, it says The File does not have a valid signature that verifies publisher. Only run software from a publisher you can trust. When I press Run, it quickly goes through installation, then says Legacy is installed. When I press the lLegacy button again and the same window appears. That is the dilemma. If I copy the Legacy5setup.exe file to my Download floder and install it from there, do you think it might patch it up. Search does not find another file. I did find the uninstall file in the Legacy directory, but I will not use that till I am sure what I am doing. I do not want to install Legacy 6 yet. I am going to wait until I am in better condition and able to handle new stuff. Is there something else I can do? The file you downloaded from the web site is an install program. It did not overwrite Legacy.exe because it should have been named Legacy5Setup.exe. Have you tried running your Legacy? Be brave, you will probably find it still works. You should be able to copy the installer program to your download folder then run it to install the last update to Legacy 5. I have been ill and unable to convert to Legacy 6. Today I was getting ready to do it by downloading the last update to Version 5. The last update I had was 12 June 2005. I am using Windows XP with SP2. I went into Internet Explorer, Legacy Family Tree, Help, Downlad and found the last update to Version 5, but instead of downloading it into myy download box I downloaded it into Legacy 5. Of course, it won't work that way. I tried to uninstall Legacy 5 to redo it right, but could find no uninstall button. I fear everything is corrupted. What can I do to correct it?Thank you for your consideration. I wish I had stayed away from the computer another day. I have been at this for many years and should have known better. Problem is that, after spending two hours searching the Legacy website, I cannot find any mention of a version prior to Version 6. What have I missed? Advice/instructions gratefully received.
