you broke the dialog again. this can be seen when you try to resize
the whole dialog, combos are no more resized accordingly. Enrico's
 patch worked.

I don't understand, what I committed showed the same resizing
behaviour as the current layout by Edwin: When you increase the layout
width, the textedit width was increased by a third of it. Why is this
a problem?
Edwin's solution has now the same narrow textedits as I had in my
first commit. But probably I don't see the real problem.

Why have you reverted my change?

because you haven't fixed it correctly and didn't communicate with us.
mailarchive is dropping mails and you are probably regularly missing
 parts of lyx devel communication.

I have no other choice because my mail account is limited to 500 mail
(enough for about 3 weeks communication without being subscribed to
lyx-devel) and I'm not allowed to use my work mail account for private
stuff. (I could buy an unlimited mail account providing IMAP, but
don't want to pay that.)

You don't have to pay for that. Google provide it for free :-)

As a LyX developer you can even have an lyx.org address and access it
with IMAP. That's exactly what I am doing by the way.

In contrary to gmane, mail-archive offers to reply directly to the
author of a mail and to sort the mails by date. (I of course double
check that I don't miss something by also reading Gmane and/or
marc.info. But I do this only once a week.)

Gmane has an also a news (nntp) interface, you should use that instead.

Provided all these solutions it's really amazing that you still uses
mail-archive for communicating with us :-)

The Google mail policies are not acceptable for me because I have to

But OK, I can use this account only for LyX as these mails are public

problem is the decreased width of the textedit fields.

No, you broke the dialog because resizing was not working anymore and
translated strings were truncated and thus only partially shown.

You simply astonish me. I didn't revert your change but simply restored
the resizing capability.

It is not OK to revert things without contacting the author.

Again, I didn't revert anything but simply fixed what you messed up.
I replied to your change, informing you that you had broken the dialog,
and you simply ignored that. That is what is not OK, IMHO.

Moreover, why not considering that the existing layout can be
 improved?

I am really baffled by your statements. That is precisely what I did.

I therefore reverted the reversion and increased the text edit field widths.
If the problem was another one please inform me.

I should have missed something here, as I didn't know that you were the
