Many thanks for your reply, Hans.

I’m afraid it doesn’t work. It still generates data under
$HOME/.texlive2021/, but it tries to read data (to generate the format
file) from $HOME/backup-context/01062022_context/, which is a backup I
have, instead of $HOME/context (which is the actual directory where
ConTeXt is installed).

Even with the HOME/backup-context/ directory hidden, I get the following
error when Irun "context --luatex document" (after having run "context
--luatex --generate"):

This isn’t important for me, but just in case it may be relevant for you.

If I run "context --luatex document", I get a new directory

directory inside)

When I run "mtxrun --generate", all required files are generated in
"$HOME/context/tex/texmf-cache/luametatex-cache".

I wonder why "mtrun --generate" doesn’t generate a "luatex-cache"
directory in the same directory containing "luametatex-cache".

and how about

context --luatex --generate

BTW, the '$HOME/.texlive2021/texmf-var/luatex-cache/" directory only
contains an empty 'context/d10b607aa0e9d13dde6602f491b76cbc/trees/' path.

Hi,

Normally when we're in the 2022 TeXlive code freeze period, there is a
snapshot release but because there hasn't been that many changes,
maybe a few patches, in MKIV there is no real snapshot this year. But
for the sake of consistency we can consider today's version that
snapshot.

It basically means that MKIV has been frozen and is even more frozen
now. All new stuff goes in MKXL (aka LMTX) and I suppose that next
year we let that end up in TeXlive alongside frozen MKII and MKIV. Of
course bugs will be fixed as usual.

So, today is the day we kind of formally freeze MKIV.

Hans

With the freeze of MKIV, how will modules be managed? LMTX still ships
without. A while back
(https://www.mail-archive.com/ntg-context@ntg.nl/msg100179.html) it was
suggest that this would, at some point, change.

Re: [NTG-context] MkIV missing?

2021-10-04 Thread Taco Hoekwater via ntg-context
Hi,

Here is what I assume has happened:

Hans gave LMTX its own "luametatex-cache” directory (around August 20).
Previously, the cache for LMTX still used files under luatex-cache, just like
MKIV. But since that change, the “context -—generate” call no longer updates
files in luatex-cache, only in luametatex-cache.

That is not a big problem unless something happens to clear any existing cache
in that folder (like a re-install from scratch, say).

Normally, one runs “context —-generate” to fix the cache and “context —-luatex”
to run luatex Combined, that would be
  “context —-generate —-luatex”.
But the problem is that luatex cannot find “mtx-context.lua” exactly because of
the missing cache that we are actually trying to create with that command line.
Missing “mtx-context.lua” is usually fixed by running the more basic “mtxrun
—generate”.

However, “mtxrun -—generate” does not currently support a "-—luatex” argument,
so the only way I know of right now to get the luatex-cache restored|updated is
to run the command below.

(Incidentally, this sort of issue is why the core command is not “context
-—generate” but “mtxrun -—generate”. It is unfortunate that that does not help
in this case).

Best wishes,
Taco

For me too, while it didn’t work with an absolute path, i.e.

~/lmtx/tex/... was ok, while
/Users/hraban/lmtx/tex/... was not!

Strange...

We are busy with this off-list.

If it is urgent:

 luatex --luaonly ~/lmtx/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin/mtxrun.lua --generate

fixed it for me (you’ll need to adjust the path, of course)

I re-ran the install script with a shell ("sh install.sh" instead just ".

"mtxrun --generate" seems to work without problems; or do you see something

I always ran ". install.sh", i.e. "source install.sh"; calling a shell solves
the PATH issue. Thanks for the hint!

That is why I always run “sh install.sh” instead of executing the script

Indeed an engine issue. Fixed in next upload.

There is one problem I have with enumerations. The spacing between

No, it's a problem with framedtext which uses the wrong placement option
and ignores the before/after values.

I bet there is a parameter I can set to tweak that? Below is a MWE

Thanks!

Re: [NTG-context] mkiv digits/units zero padding not working

2020-05-07 Thread Benjamin Buchmuller
Following up on the work-around, here is my improved code for xtable.

What doesn’t work is:

* alignment on the decimal separator takes place only in the first column with
decimals (i.e. B), not on the following one; this is independent of R1 having
a decimal value in this column or not

* row spanning is now tricky since the width of the header column is taken for
the first of the three rows spanned, which becomes even more complicated with
option=stretch, I guess if I right align the second column and would phantomize
the hsize of the header, this could work with a bit of optimization.

What I like about this approach however is that one could read the two
arguments from a CSV file, which would save a lot of typing (and to manually
specify the padding).

\def\mpm#1#2{
\doifsomethingelse{#2}{

Hi Wolfgang,

you are (of course) right again. I realised that I wouldn’t get the expected
behaviour after checking the snippet isolated from my document’s context, where
it is embedded in a \startplacetable[…]{}{}. I’m still learning to get the gist
of the \doifs, the curly and square bracketed arguments and so on. Thanks for
the hint!

Seems like I’m going to make three cells and span the header column for now,
though I guess it would be a nice feature to have the padding working in the
other cases.

I’ll write a feature request for no 4.

Thanks!

Is there something missing in here because the \ifsecondargument check
here makes non sense because the second argument is mandatory and not
optional.

Is this what you want?

\define[2]\mpm
  {\digits{#1}%
   \doifsomething{#2}{\,±\,\digits{#2}}}

Since I was hoping that I could exploit the zeropadding of \digits to get the
format right. Indeed, it would save a lot of typing, if I wouldn’t have to
specify the padding manually and I vaguely recall that there is somewhere a
ConTeXt solution that can make such alignments, but I simply can’t find it any

You can align number on the decimal point (comma) but this works only
when you have only one number in a cell.

\starttext

\startxtable[aligncharacter=yes,alignmentcharacter=±]
\startxrow
\startxcell
\digits {14.0} ± \digits {1.5}
\stopxcell
\stopxrow
\startxrow
\startxcell
\digits {0.034} ± \digits {0.013}
\stopxcell
\stopxrow
\stopxtable

\stoptext

2. + 3.

Absolutely right, this is my bad. I have badly mixed from Hans’ solution to a
similar problem,

https://www.mail-archive.com/ntg-context@ntg.nl/msg00724.html

which was actually \def\zeroamount{-} and the example in the source, I didn’t
read properly. Just skip that part. :)

The message is from 2003!

4.

Indeed,

\startxcell \mpm{14.==}{_1.5=} \stopxcell
\startxcell \mpm{_0.03}{_0.01} \stopxcell

aligns properly. But sometimes, I have the first digit specified, but not the
second and unfortunately this doesn’t work

\startxcell \mpm{14.5=}{_1.5=} \stopxcell
\startxcell \mpm{_0.03}{_0.01} \stopxcell

because = is not immediately preceded by .

Can you write another mail with a request for this.

Hi,

I’m trying to get

\digits{15.0=}±\digits{1.00}

\digits{_8.12}±\digits{0.34}

horizontally aligned as

15.0 ±1.00
  8.12±0.34

But I get

15.0±1.00
  8.12±0.34

instead.

From the source (phys-dim.mkiv), I can see that “=“ should expand to
\hphantom{0}. (I think \zeropoint in the table is outdated, since
\def\zeropoint\hphantom{0} does not solve the problem either.)

1. Which table?

2. This is not how \def works.

3. When you redefine \zeropoint (which isn't a macro) you're going to
break everything.

I can’t use tabulate or alignment in math mode for this problem unfortunately.

I looked at the code and the problem is = can only be used to insert
space for two digits (e.g. 100.==).

Re: [NTG-context] Mkiv, fonts in text and math mode, with \definebodyfont

2019-10-01 Thread Hans Hagen

On 9/30/2019 7:32 PM, Stefano Sanguinetti wrote:

Hello,

I am trying to understand something more about fonts in text and math
mode, in Mkiv Context. I would like to be able to change things at the
"define body fonts" level.

I tried the following, in order to have rsfs fonts :
\setupbodyfont[12pt]
\definebodyfont[12pt][rm][tf=rsfs10 sa *]
\starttext
\tf ABCD
\tfa ABCD
\stoptext

The \tfa ABCD is displayed as rsfs as I wanted, but the \tf ABCD is
displayed as default fonts. Why ? What could I change in order to have
\tf ABCD in rsfs ?

In math mode, I am not able to have rsfs fonts :
\setupbodyfont[12pt]
\definebodyfont[12pt][mm][mr=rsfs10 sa *,ex=rsfs10 sa *,mi=rsfs10 sa
*,sy=rsfs10 sa *,ma=rsfs10 sa *,mb=rsfs10 sa *]

\starttext
$ABCD$
\stoptext

That gives ABCD in default math mode fonts.
Is there a simple way to do it with the \definebodyfont command ?

Thank you in advance for your comments.
In mkiv we use a different model. If you want to use traditional type 1
fonts you need to define a virtual (unicode) math font. You can look
into px-math.lfg to see how that is done.

(Maybe I should remove these old family models from mkiv/lmtx. probably
no one would object.)

prefixconnector is the separator between the section number (=prefix) and the
float number (=figure number), the symbol at the end of the float number is
called numberstopper. In your example you don’t have a section which can act as
prefix number no did you change which prefixes should be shown (by default only
chapters are used as prefix).

The suffix key you use (together with suffixconnector and suffixstopper) is
used to show the number for subfigures, e.g. figure 3.a.
Here is a working example for the use of the prefixconnector key.

\starttext

\section{This is a section}

\setupcaptions[prefixsegments=section,prefixconnector=-]

\startplacefigure[title=\tex{setupcaptions[prefixconnector=-]}]
\externalfigure[dummy][width=.5\textwidth]
\stopplacefigure

\stoptext

Re: [NTG-context] MKIV caption separator, revisited

Here is the example. \setupcaptions has no effect, however
\setupfloatcaption does (assuming of course I didn't make a silly
mistake ;-). Thus it is no problem to get the effect desired, but
possibly \setupcaptions should be deprecated, or perhaps reimplemented
to calling \setupfloatcaption. I could have missed the change, but I
guess a lot of other people might have missed it too. In that case we
could spare them the trouble of finding out what happened.
prefixconnector is the separator between the section number (=prefix)
and the float number (=figure number), the symbol at the end of the
float number is called numberstopper. In your example you don’t have a
section which can act as prefix number no did you change which prefixes
should be shown (by default only chapters are used as prefix).

The suffix key you use (together with suffixconnector and suffixstopper)
is used to show the number for subfigures, e.g. figure 3.a.

Here is an MWE demonstrating the problem. It compiles cleanly, but the

Now, I try to figure how to get em size in points.

The different space before the \chapter is caused by the “fixed” keyword for
\blank
which produce different result with MkII and MkIV and the MkIV behaviour need
to be corrected.

The space after \chapter comes from your \writetolist entry and you can correct
this with the \GotoPar command at the end of the entry as shown below.

Although it is not yet production ready, we are working on this issue
with the new mkiv-bibliography subsystem. The rendering of citations
and the rendering of bibliography lists can be quite complicated, as
you are showing.

I note a second issue here: As you are working with an
autogenerated .bib file, you may have less control over its contents,
so playing with the field contents is not a solution.

No, it would just change the Author-field for one particular entry that is
causing trouble.
One can correct all faulty entries that way of cause.

  You were asking for comments
about your solution, I hope the following remarks are informative to
 you.

My .bib file is being autogenerated by Mendeley, a reference manager,
and changes often in terms of contents. That workflow seems
incompatible with your solution. Furthermore, I may not let the
authors appear in citations with all their names every time, it should

With your solution, 1 out of n citations would be correct, while in
the current situation (without manual intervention) n-1 out of n would

I clearly misunderstood your problem, which, as I see now, thanks to your
remarks, is rather different from mine.
I would not have sent you my silly answer if I had known this.

On the other hand, I too need citations and bibliographic references to appear
in different forms, three in my case:
In the Bibliography with Author: Last name, first name,
In the text and footnotes the first time with Author(s): First name(s), last
name(s), and full title of the work, and in all the following citations with
Author(s): Last name(s) only and short title of the work.
I could think of no other way to accomplish this than to generate the .bbl,
make two copies, “Inversed Author” and “Short Title”, make the necessary
changes in these .bbl’s, including the cite-key to mark it for these two
alternatives. I should add that I could not use apa but an apa-like, modified
in many details which also forced me to tweak the .bbl.

It all seems a lot of work but it is straightforward, it works for me and it
protects me from an enormous amount of frustration.
(And I’m glad my .bib-file is not autogenerated.)

Best regards,

Robert Blackstone

Thank you Robert! I was planning to respond to your private message as

My .bib file is being autogenerated by Mendeley, a reference manager,

the current situation (without manual intervention) n-1 out of n would
be correct (all but the first).

So, am I out of luck? Should I maybe have an 'invisible' citation with
the first citation, spelling out that citation myself, while still
recording that the work was cited and is to be listed in the
bibliography.

Who can tell me please how to hide \cite output in the neatest way

The mkii/mkiv bibliography module that you are using does a good job but
is not so sophisticated. The new mkiv rewrite is (unfortunately) still

You can continue to address bibliography questions to the list, or to me

There should only be one period. I think this was mentioned a while
back and might be related to removing the period in cases where
punctuation (such as a question mark) already exists.

Re: [NTG-context] (MKIV beta) APA citations: et al. incorrectly written

2014-09-30 Thread Alan BRASLAU
Hello,

These are the sort of details that we are trying to address with the
new bibliography subsystem. The APA rules (reference: Publication
Manual of the APA, 6th edition) give many special cases, some of which
can be a bit tricky.

The mkii/mkiv bibliography module that you are using does a good job but
is not so sophisticated. The new mkiv rewrite is (unfortunately) still
work in progress and is not quite production ready. The new subsystem
was one topic of the recent ConTeXt meeting.

You can continue to address bibliography questions to the list, or to me
directly as I am presently working on this with Hans in my spare
time (Luigi and Thomas are also actively involved). This does not
solve your immediate problem, however.

2014-09-30 Thread Sander Maijers
Hi Alan,

I'm writing a thesis in ConTeXt so I'm keen to make this work. I can test
things, and I hope that the basics of APA are covered already? Also, a
temporary solution could be to allow explicit choice of the citation format
and to rely on the author to make the proper choice, as long as automatic
formatting hasn't been completed. All I want in the short term is to keep
track of references to show them in a proper format - it needn't be easy
and/or automatic for now.

Best,

As always, thank you.

I have updated the wiki page for setupcaptions. The updated includes a
reworded description of the suffix key and new descriptions for the
stopper/numberstopper and separator/prefixconnector keys.

(There are many other keys that are not documented, and a few at least
that differ between MKII and MKIV, but I do not have the time at the
moment to test all of them.)

Hi,

I'm trying to glue MkIV XML handling to ConTeXt's tabulation. My
markup has a HTML-style table model, with an arbitary number of col

My problem is to produce the |c|c|c|c| format based on the number of
col elements I have, rather than hardcoding a specific number of
columns.

I thought I could do something like this, but unfortunately the string
produced by \xmlconcat{#1}{col}{\|} seems to be ignored:

% in practice this would produce various alignments, not just c
 \startxmlsetups xml:col
 c
 \stopxmlsetups

 \startxmlsetups xml:table
 \starttabulate[\|\xmlconcat{#1}{col}{\|}\|]
 \xmlall{#1}{thead|tbody}
 \stoptabulate
 \stopxmlsetups

Whereas this works fine, as I'd expect: \starttabulate[|c|c|c|c|]

(I'm also confused about the escaping for \| there. I guess the [] is
a special environment, with | being given a different catcode,
perhaps?)

Is there a way to do this, with the number of columns and their
alignment generated from the input XML?

 Hi Hans,

I believe that in MkIV some \framed[location=...] keys are not
working, namely `depth`, `height`, and `hanging`. In MkIV these all
place the bottom of the frame flush with the baseline, like
[location=]. In MkII they behave more sensibly, as follows:

 * depth: place bottom of frame flush with bottom of the line (i.e.
 \strutdepth below baseline)
 * height: place top of frame flush with top of line
 * hanging: place top of frame flush with baseline

The reason why all the location alternatives don’t work is because
the original \vbox for the content is converted to a \hbox which ignores
the changed values (even though the changed values for the height/depth
are used as seen at the surrounding box). The process to create a \hbox
happens when the background is applied with:

\def\pack_framed_add_background
  {\setbox\b_framed_normal\hbox % was vbox
   ...
  \egroup}}

I wanted to try mkiv because the possibility of using openfonts looked
interesting, so I made a tex file based on one that worked years ago, changed
the font definitions to the texgyre fonts and gave it a try. The font defs
seem to be ok (at least there are no error msges related to fonts) but after
context gets through my tex file, it enters an endless loop which I have to
interrupt. I checked the file over and over and cannot find any error. I
tested a short hello world tex file, and that one worked fine.

any clues on what could be going on here ?

Provide a example and when possible try to change the dutch commands to english
to test if the error remains.

Please change the name of the \textdir command because there is already a

 Hi,

thanks! Now it works with the \setff{..} command.

or otherwise also set up kerns

Sorry, I dont understand what you mean with this. Can you explain it?

When you use

  \definefontfeature[smallcapitals][..,..=..,..]

you have to add “kern=yes” to the list because no kerning happens otherwise.

btw, there is a smallcaps feature predefined.

I thought the \sc is the predefined command for the smallcaps font
 feature. Am I wrong?

No, like the \it. \bf etc commands \sc is a font switch which uses for Latin
Modern
a separate font file which contains instead of lowercase letter small capitals,
for other
fonts the \sc command load the upright font where the “smallcaps” feature set is
used instead of the “default” set.

Dear all,

I've noticed that \leadsto, \rightsquigarrow and \leftrightsquigarrow are

I've tested the entire set at http://www.access2science.com/latex/Arrows.html
