Digital recorders
Thanks to all for this discussion; it's been a help. I have ordered my DM-520 and it should be here in a couple days. Does anyone know of a tutorial for tit? Maybe a podcast on ACB Radio or something. I downloaded the manual but the graphics aren't described very well. It's a PDF file and it doesn't allow you to save it as text--i guess that wouldn't make the graphics any better. digital recorders and players continued
Hi. Ok, I have been following the threads on here about digital recorders and players. It seems like most people agree the the plextalk is the best choice. I'm looking for something that has good to great recording quality, easy to transfer files back and forth, and can read books. The plextalk seems to have all of these features. Is there anything I'm missing before I make this monumental decision? Someone did say the olympus was better for recording quickly or on-the-spot. Another choice that people may wish to consider is the Sony PCMD50, you'll hear a review of it on http://www.blindcooltech.com though you may have to look for it in the archives. One of the features I really liked about this model was the system it had for protection against the sound clipping if the level got too high. On 24/12/2009, at 3:38 AM, Brett Boyer wrote: Hi. Re: An audio editing beginner
the best solution for CD burning is Exact Audio Copy. It can rip in both the lossless flac format which offers CD quality sound or in MP3. Flac is supported on both the Victor Stream and Booksense. There's a learning curve with EAC for a newbie, but hearing classic jazz recordings digitally remastered using the drive offsets in EAC has made me feel like I was right in the ballrooms and clubs where the recordings were made. ITunes or anything else at this point still can't light a candle to EAC for quality. Victor Reader Stream or Book Cents
Hello guys, I've listened to reviews on both the book cents and victor stream. What kinds of things should I consider when looking at getting either one or the other? I want to be able to play NLS, Recording For the Blind books and MP3s among other things. The book cents is getting the RFB and D Support. What other things should I consider when looking at these 2 machines? How is the response time between the 2? Any problems with the 2 machines? Can you record in wave format and stereo? What's the speed compression like?? Can you speed up music and books on both machines if you want? Thank you guys for any feedback. victor Reader Stream V Book Sense
Hi! Okay, I don't have a Book Sense but I do have a Victor reader Stream. One thing I like about the Stream is that all prompts and messages are recorded in human voice rather than having to rely on a software voice synthesiser so you won't miss any alerts, prompts or errors which Victor is trying to communicate to you. I'm also told that there are some major software upgrades for Victor coming in the near future, one of which will allow you to store your recordings in a different format such as wave for transfer straight to a PC or Mac and that's about time too! and this has been my major gripe about the player from day one - particularly given that I use a Mac most of the time and there's no way of converting files from the Victor's format to something standard with the Mac, this should fix the problem. The other slight annoyance I have with the Victor Reader Stream is its incredibly slow rate of transfer using USB cable and I'd be interested to hear an explanation from Humanware as to why this is, I can only hope that transfer speeds are faster on the Book Sense. If you're prepared to be a little adaptive then the problem can of course be solved by purchasing a memory card reader but make sure you read the manual first so you know what goes into what folder on the card, how to arrange things etc. -- Dane Trethowan From Melton Victoria Australia mailto:grtd...@internode.on.net Phone United Kingdom 02032874641 Phone Australia :0390058589 Phone United States :8159261869 Fax (+61 3) 9743 7954 Mobile/SMS +61 438 571201 MSN grtd...@dane-trethowan.net skype:grtdane12 Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/grtdane blog: http://www.grtdane.wordpress.com __ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4713 (20091223) __ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

I'm very glad to hear it and to be honest, that wouldn't be all that hard I don't reckon smile. I would like to see some sort of voice database feature in these devices, some way whereby you could link notes or recordings together, say link a telephone number with an address or a name, I should think that such a feature would be handy for elderly people who could use these type of machines - not just for playing books - but as a type of information manager for basic information, The Victor Reader for example uses LINUX as its operating system so there's no question about the power the player has, its just a question of how to design such a system I outlined. brandon armstrong wrote: booksense transfers are much faster to mac and vise versa. Dane, With a card reader and the Companion software, I think transferring files to the VRS is quite easy. I use a PC, so that's probably why it is so, as I'm not sure if the Companion software works on a mac. I also like the human voice prompts. However, the synthesized voices available for the VRS are, IMHO, better than nothing but not by much. Thank god for Text Aloud. Re: victor Reader Stream V Book Sense
That's exactly my point, you're using the software to do all the transfer and you shouldn't have to do that, you shouldn't have to use software to convert the audio format to something standard either and - most of all - you shouldn't have to purchase a memory card reader because of the slow transfer speed of the Victor Reader Streams USB port.
