phone question using skype

2010-01-01 Thread joe bollard
hello friends, and a happy new year to everyone on the list, one of my new year
resolutions is to get some of my audio technology problems sorted, so here goes
i work for a radio station, producing and presenting a programme for and about
people with sight loss, i work mainly from home and i quite often have to do
phone interviews, so far i use my edirol recorder placing the very good
microphone close to the phone speaker, it's ok, but slightly micky mouse, i
have skype, and skype out, i also have sound forge six, i want to use skype to
record my phone interviews, it would sound much more professional, can anyone
help, is there a piece of equipment i can purchase to help me achieve a very
good standard, any advice will really be appreciated, i have heard of the
hybrid, what is it and is it good?? take care, regards from ireland, joe.

Okay, are you prepared to use your computer to record Skype calls? If so then
you can use Total Recorder Professional to do this, $35.00.

If you want to use a device then I think you'll find a few reviews of such
things at http://www.blindcooltech.com though you may have to look in the
archives.

Okay, first go to http://www.totalrecorder and download the trial, then read

Hello!
None of those players out there seems to have manuals that are easy to find.
For example vlc media player has a manual but it does not explain much how
to record streams with it. And the support team and their mailing list is
one of the most unhuman places i've ever been through. So i think i will
stick with gome player. /Anders.

Converting MPG files to another video format

2010-01-01 Thread Dane Trethowan

Hi!

Someone on list asked about this a couple of days ago, they wanted to
convert MPG formatted files to a format used by the Iphone or Itunes so
here's a utility to do it.

I don't have a direct url but go into Google and look for AVS Video
Converter.

Now I must warn you that this software - though I would class it as
being accessible - requires much usage of the Mouse Pointer in
Window-Eyes and the JAWS cursor in JAWS, if you're happy about that then
you shouldn't have too much trouble getting around the software, good
luck! I'm using it here.

Hi folks

I am trying to access the site and to listen to some audio on it with any
success.

This is the website for the franschoek motor museum. If you click on one of
the vehicles on the the cars section, you will get to the history and specs
of a certain vehicle. Acfcording to the folks at the museum, there is
supposed to be a start button on which you can hear the specific vehicle
starting up and driving. However, using Jaws 10 I cannot find any start
button there. Jaws only says start flash an end flash. Can someone with
much more technical skills please look at the site and tell me how I can get
to these audio samples?

Please if possible answer me off list as I do not want to clutter up things.

Regards

Andre

Probably. If you install with the defaults an actual driver is not

Okay, first go to http://www.totalrecorder and download the trial, then
read the primers and tutorials there about recording with Total Recorder
and Skype, try it and then go to the same site to purchase.

Other people on this list use the software and I've been using it for

Hi!

Someone on list asked about this a couple of days ago, they wanted to
convert MPG formatted files to a format used by the Iphone or Itunes
so here's a utility to do it.

I don't have a direct url but go into Google and look for AVS Video
Converter.

Now I must warn you that this software - though I would class it as
being accessible - requires much usage of the Mouse Pointer in
Window-Eyes and the JAWS cursor in JAWS, if you're happy about that
then you shouldn't have too much trouble getting around the software,
good luck! I'm using it here.

But in order to play those, you will need a SACD player.

High Sunshine,
I still have one of those old vacuum tube systems.
What you said about the CD, is true on one hand.
But on the other hand, it isn't.
Some CD's, are being recorded at 32 bits with PCM encoding which yields a
way better sound.
But however, they are only sailing them to the AUDIO PHIAL people.
The sound quality of CD's that are made like that, are top notch.
But don't expect to find CD's like these in WAL-MART, you won't find them
there.
I had allot of luck finding them at a specialty stereo shop.
My best regards.

todays music systems that are purely digital, are a bit if not totally

from what i know aabout digital files such as those that are made from

the quality is what you get, if i remember correctly the underlying
actuall, audio is a wav file that has been made in 16 bit, 44100 khz

The tube sound or vacume tube/valve sound of the earlier systems, made

quality stars above any digital sounding system i have heard.
I am in my 30's and can remember a lot of stereo equipment from those

what i would love to see is a very high quality audio file stereo system
with ripping aviable in the unit, with a way to transfer the ripped
files
to a portable device/ or computer.
Also on another note digital speakers vs analog speakers i will take the
analog speakers over the digital ones any day.
the frequency response of a pure analog speaker system also sounds much
better.
does anyone remember the panasonic thruster 750's? for analog speakers?

High Sunshine,
Vacuum tube stereo receivers have been discontinued cense 1967.
But however, there are still some integrated amplifiers on the market that
uses tubes, but they are very costly.

They are $5000 and up.
But you can get a very low powered tube integrated amp from:
www.tubedepot.com
for about $200.
I would like to see how the plug ins you spoke of works.
I have Winamp 5.571
If you can, would you please send them to me?

on another note are there any recievers that can produce the tub/valve
sounds like we have been disscussing?

But that really makes no difference as a sub-woofer only gives you base
(and
nothing else! So whether it's in mono or stereo, out of the
sub-woofer,

you hear base..either way.

Re: a question about joint stereo and normal stereo

2010-01-01 Thread DJ DOCTOR P

High Norma,
That is true.
I don't know about the boomers you spoke of, but I am still a record
collector.

I collect allot of jazz records.
You can get them either way.
You can get them on LP or CD.
But to my ears, the LP's sound a whole lot better.
The newest amp that I have, is an Eastern Electric M-520 integrated vacuum
tube amp that I bought almost 2 years ago.
But most of my sound equipment, is vintage equipment that my parents had
when they were alive.
When they passed on, I got it and restored it all to working order so that I
could use it.

My best regards.
John.

This thread reminds me of why I wondered why the remastering of the
Beatles albums is such a big deal. I can appreciate Sir George and Giles
Martin producing, but wouldn't all this only really sound good if on
vinyl? IMHO, there is music that isn't meant to be digitized
Seems there are more albums being made available on vinyl. I figure this
is due to boomers with disposable income wanting to hear music as they did
in their youth.

Just my 2 cents...
Norma

 Hi!

This has probably been covered before, can the Victor reader Stream - as
yet - play .m4a unprotected format as used by Itunes?

Re: a question about joint stereo and normal stereo

2010-01-01 Thread Casey

Hi how do this plug ins or this dsp bridge effect the sound in winamp?
If I had it and first played one of my mp3's just using winamp on its own.
Then played that same file using that bridge would I notice a sound
difference from when I played the file when I wasn't using it and or over
when I played it when I was using it?
And also what all configuring need to be done to get it to sound nice and
what settings do you need to set to get the best quality out of it?

Also where do you get these files from and are they free?

Ok, you would need the winamp vst bridge, version 1.16 cause it has a
second part to load the other vst.
what version of foobar are you using? and how are you loading the vsts?
that

you use?
email me off list and i will send them to you.

I'd be interested to hear these vsts. I use foobar 2000 but I also have
winamp. It might be fun to try it.
What do I need?

i can deffinitly agree with this one.
btw for those of you who want that tube/balbe sound i can recomand a
really
need combo of vsts that can give this to you. you will need winamp, the
vst
bridge 1.16 and the two vsts i have but for a computer sulation in
software
it works great. but still wish there was a way to get the valve
sound/tube

sound with out having to use vsts to do so.

Fwd: StationPlaylist Studio Scripts Version 2.0 are released

2010-01-01 Thread Steve Pattison
From: Jeff Bishop

New StationPlaylist Studio Scripts have been released for Window-Eyes.

I want to first thank a number of people for their feedback and assistance in
shaping the next major release of the Studio Scripts:

Jared Rimer for endless hours in testing and suggestions. He pushed the limits
of how he uses Studio in areas I never would have thought of and uncovered a
number of bugs that required attention.

Brian Hartgen for valuable feedback in his review of the earlier versions of
the scripts.

Here are the changes since the last announcement here on the list:

Added many new hotkeys:

Control-Windows-Alt-K - Hotkey Global State Manager. It allows you to configure
each key to either be Global or only tied to the StationPlaylist Studio
application. In addition, you can silence many keys from speaking after
pressing the key.

Control-Windows-Alt-M - Open the StationPlaylist Studio Messages Maintenance
window. Edit all of the messages spoken by the scripts for different levels of
verbosity provided by the Window-Eyes Menu Level.

Control-Shift-P - Virtualize the Pop Up Track properties seen when hovering on
the Track Icon with the mouse.

Control-Alt-Windows-P - Open a comprehensive StationPlaylist Studio Scripts
Preferences dialog to manage all configuration options within the scripts.

Control-Windows-D - Toggle Script Debug Mode on and off.

Control-Insert-T - Toggle Braille Clock Time display mode on and off. Show a
continual updating time clock on your display after a double press of the
Window-Eyes time hotkey.

Control-Alt-Windows-H - Custom Track List Reading Settings:

Manage the columns spoken when arrowing through the Track List.

Manage the order the specified columns are spoken in when arrowing through the
Track List.

Manage on a per column basis the column headers spoken.

Control-Windows-H - Custom Track List Reading Mode. Toggle the custom handling
of speaking items in the Track/Play list when moving through the list with the
arrow keys.

Control-` - Enhanced Arrow Keys. Toggle this mode on and off to have Windows
7-like arrow key movement from column to column in the track list:

Up/Down Arrow - Read the current column on the next or previous track in the
track list. When you reach the top or bottom of the Track List then you will be
notified with Top/Bottom messages.

Left/Right Arrow - Move across the configured Track List columns defined. This
means that if you have removed columns from speaking in the Custom Track List
Settings dialog then these columns will be skipped.

Home - Move to the first column.

End - Move to the last column.

Escape - Exit Enhanced Arrow key mode.

Control-Alt-Windows-I - This key opens the Time Interval Settings dialog to
adjust very sensitive settings that affect the operation of the scripts. Use
this with caution.

F - This key searches for a track within the track list in a forward direction.

Shift-F - This key searches for a track within the track list in a backward
direction.

Control-Alt-Windows-N - Add a new Note.

Control-Alt-Windows-Comma (,) - Review and remove all notes added.

Enhanced support for the Set Temporary Cue command (Control-Shift-C) to provide
for a richer experience. As the scroll bar is changed the Date Time Picker
control time values are spoken.

The Output/Recording Tab, OGG Vorbis Quality options spin box control now
speaks the bit rates as the arrow keys are moved.

Volume reduction DB levels are now read as each TrackBar is moved with the
arrow keys.

Qwitter key conflict support is now integrated into the scripts. It is now
possible to automagically move conflicting key assignments to new keys.

All time calculations now account for hours, minutes and seconds. This allows
for the monitoring of very long tracks in the Playlist.

Time announcements now only speak portions required based upon the time
retrieved. No longer will you hear hour, minute or second announcements if they
don't apply to the given time retrieved.

Added logic to restore minimized to system tray window using the System Tray
icon and allowed both XP and Windows 7 clients to work with this level of
restoration.

Many enhancements to insure compatibility with Studio have been made when
Studio is minimized to the system tray.

The Window-Eyes Time hotkey has changed in this release. In prior versions a
double press of the key spoke the standard Window-Eyes time (or the normal
behavior of the time key). Now, a double press of the key now speaks the Hour,
Minute and Second as reported by Studio's clock (the on screen displayed
value). If the value can not be found then the Window-Eyes time command is
issued. If you wish to get the normal time behavior back of the Window-Eyes
hotkey then move this functionality to a new key. You will also need to assign
the DateTime action back to insert-t.
