Have Lost Windows Sounds
Hello listers: I seem to have lost my Windows sounds; am running Windows XP (home edition) think my sound card is an Audigy 2. I no longer have the sounds I used to hear when the computer starts up or shuts down; no longer hear the little sounder for Outlook Express when new email comes in; no longer hear the little sound when I want to delete a message (I usually use shift-delete to bypass the deleted items folder (it used to make a sound as the dialog popped up, asking me if I was sure I wanted to delete these messages! So as you can guess, my question is: how do I get these sounds back? Appreciate the help and info in advance! To see if you have the windows sound scheme selected go to control panel and find sounds and audio devices. Go to the sounds page and there is a combo box where you can select the different sound schemes for your computer. It should say windows default. If it doesn’t, just press the up or down arrows until it does. Then tab until you find the apply button and the okay button. Hope this helps. Re: S B Live
Yes. The digital output produces better audio quality by transferring the bits (all music on a computer is broken down into bits (as is all tother information)). If you want to use the digital output you would need to purchase a digital to audio converter. I am not sure if any of the Sblive cards had there own digital audio converters in them or not so you might want to check that out first if you have documentation with the card. My assumption is however that since there is a digital output on the card they want you to use an external digital audio converter. Digital audio converters come in all shapes, sizes, and quality not to mention cost. Also what kind of system are you going to run this into? If it's is a good system (your judgement is primary here) the digital audio converter would have outputs that you can connect directly into the input of your system and you should hear improvement in your musical sound. Hope that helps get you started. On Feb 24, 2013, at 12:32 PM, DJ MURRAY redba...@gmail.com wrote: I just put an older S B Live card into an older Xp Home Computer. RE: Have Lost Windows Sounds
Tom, It appears you landed in the right area of the control panel, followed by the sounds manager. As Rebecca suggested, once you land in that tree view, arrow either up or down until you hear Windows default. I think that's the right term, and it's the one Rebecca mentioned. Once you have that spoken, which is to say focused, tab to the Apply button and press spacebar, then tab to the OK button and press spacebar again. I'm assuming you have XP. I'm using Win7 and so can't go through the process myself anymore, but Rebecca's instructions remind me of exactly what was needed in XP. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Tom Kaufman Sent: Sunday, February 24, 2013 5:11 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Have Lost Windows Sounds In other words, I need not bother with that treview? Never mind the treeview, its a combo box you want with the various sound schemes -- the treeview is for adding or changing which sound goes with which event. Okay then..I have gone to Sounds And Audio, navigated to the sounds page, opened the combo box and went to Windows Default and then went to OK (there _Is _no_ apply button showing) no soap; I still don't have the sounds! Re: Have Lost Windows Sounds
Hi Gary: Thanks for the response; as you'll see during the thread, I've tried what Rebecca has suggested (provided I understood the instructions correctly) it hasn't helped as I'm still not getting any Windows sounds: email sounder, start-up and shutdown..etc! Hopefully there's an easy fix for this problem! Thanks for your indulgence!
