Re: Why did my K1 not go automatically to DST? Problem solved!
That is clear to me, Jan, at first sight I am thinking that the time table info could be easily modulated on the GPS signal. I could not find detailed specification of the system and signals. Greetz, Jos On 28-Mar-17 14:42, Jan van Wijk wrote: Hallo Jos, On Tue, 28 Mar 2017 11:19:56 +0200 Jos de Fotograaf wrote: _Is DST in the GPS info itself?_ No Some members suggested that the camera needs look-up tables to see DST data of specific countries. I am not so sure about that. You need either DST tables (combined with timezone info), OR manual setting of DST yes/no I did not get a clear answer from Google. But, GPS was designed for military purposes, it contains time information, so why not also DST data? The GPS sattelite(s) don't know where YOU are, they only send an encoded very exact TIME signal which can be received everywhere the sattelite is 'visible' Your GPS device can then calculate its position by comparing time-differences as received from multiple sattelites (closest sattelite is received first :) The decoded time will be available to the GPS device this way, but it is UTC time. The device needs to convert that to local time using timezone + DST information. For military on the ground it can be crucial to know the exact local time. Even when all other systems fail. Yes, but the GPS only supplies UTC times. BTW: In large scale military operations, they often use UTC times directly, it used to be called ZULU time, for ZERO deviation from the ZERO-meridian time :) _Well, all together it took me a lot more time, than simply adapting the clock manually! But I gained knowledge! Indeed, I checked my K3, it did not have DST checked either (fixed now). It is important to set that correctly, otherwise the 'Sync' done by the GPS unit will set the time wrong (since the conversion from UTC to local-time will be off by 1 hour) I have had that happening a few times, setting it manually, then seeing it change automatically as soon as the GPS unit gets a proper connection :) Regards, JvW -- Jan van Wijk; http://www.dfsee.com Flickr : jvw_pentax -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

David J Brooks wrote: Hey all. A small local group i am part of "Thepassingshow". http://www.thepassingshow.com/members wanted to do a book of local pictures for Canada's 150th birthday this year. It was a big undertaking as some of the organizers wanted to build a pro book which would entail a great cost and order numbers. It has been scaled back to a smaller less pro book and do something with shutterfly or blurb or some such on line presence. We are having meeting Tuesday at local pub to discuss this. I suppose my question would be to Mark and Bill and who ever has done some blurb or shutterfly books on the process. I did one blurb book many years ago for family but it was pretty basic. I recommend you bribe Mark to use it as a class project. I've done a few. Adobe has an all singing all dancing program for publishing (InDesign) which will publish directly to blurb. It does a great job, but the learning curve is more work than putting together the book. I'd suggest just giving it a try in lightroom and see if that comes close enough to what you want, if that doesn't work, then put in the effort to try something else. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) http://red4est.com/lrc -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: Can I zoom the electronic viewfinder of K1?
Jos, also note that it works the same way when you are reviewing images on your SD card. Use the blue > key to get into Review mode, hitting the OK button starts you into zoom, rear wheel controls how far you zoom. Once you start zooming, of course you only see a portion of the picture. The four way controller buttons allow you to scroll around within the image. (Also the same when you are in LV.) In addition, when in Image Review mode, the front dial allows you to move from image to image while maintaining the same level of zoom. In the case of either LV or image review mode, hitting the OK button again takes you back to a normal full screen view. stan > On Mar 29, 2017, at 3:07 PM, Mark Cwrote: > > In live view tap the "OK" button in the middle of the 4 way controller to > zoom in. APC wide angle: I love my Sigma EX 10-20mm f4-5.6. Probably have taken more memorable images on that, than any other lens. It is full frame down to about 15mm (with little vignetting) so I think it matches the widest rectaliner full frame film lens that Pentax ever made. 2014 PDML Annual
I too have been unable to contact Mark Roberts via his personal email address, but I might as well address the group. I would like to purchase a hardcover version of the 2014 Annual. The wrap art version, not the dust jacket version. Blurb is all out of those. I gave mine away, and I would like to keep my set of annuals complete. Blurb does have a soft cover book, so I may have to settle for that, but all of my others are hard cover, so I would prefer to find one. I gave mine to the young lady whose posterior was immortalized in that edition, so I am bookless. Re: The recent device ban and traveling with a camera
I suspect that the same body has already been through some jarring moments being shipped to its final destination, whether by container ship or by plane. Loading/unloading boxes, loading/unloading containers, the trip itself, the distribution network which ships the cameras to its retailer and the shipping to the customer's house, all involving UPS/Fedex wannabee monkeys. Re: The recent device ban and traveling with a camera
For the overall number, I just realized, I was counting only the airports designated by FAA as "Commercial service - primary" ( over 10 000 passenger boardings per year). You probably included "Commercial service - nonprimary" (between 2.5K and 10K boardings per year). On one hand, I didn't find the list of the latter upon a quick look. On the other hand, I suspected that most of those are serviced by charter flights. But now, I am thinking that small airports with a single daily flight (say CRJ-100) with about half load on average (say, 25 passengers on average) would not meet the 10-K cut-off. And then some of those airports may have seasonal schedule. One example of such airports is WYS (Yellowstone Airport), served exclusivle by Delta between May and September (only 7,796 enplaments in 2015). The latest total number of commercial airports I was able to find (CY15) lists 544 airports: https://www.faa.gov/airports/planning_capacity/passenger_allcargo_stats/passenger/media/cy15-commercial-service-enplanements.pdf The last one on the list, LAF, that just barely made the cut for the "commercial" (2500+ enplaments), has not had scheduled commercial flights since 2004. So, I suspect the correct number of the airports with regular scheduled commercial flight services might be somewhere between 500 and 600. Cheers, Igor PS. I am always glad to see that I am not the only one who cares for the accuracy of statements. :-) John Francis Tue, 28 Mar 2017 16:38:26 -0700 wrote: On Tue, Mar 28, 2017 at 02:39:21PM -0400, Igor PDML-StR wrote: I don't know how many US airports Delta and Delta Connections fly to (out of almost 400 commercial airports), but 84 is probably not all of them. Re: The recent device ban and traveling with a camera
I would think that Pentax DSLRs, with in-body shake reduction, are at least as fragile as lenses. I'd certainly feel happier stowing an M or earlier lens in my carryon than a modern body - and not just because of the value aspect. > On 28 March 2017 at 16:50 Gonzwrote: > > > Can't you carry your lenses on board and check in the camera with no > lenses?
