Hello all, I am barely following conversations here, but perhaps some of you would like to follow on this interesting situation and artwork in progress, that Jelena Mijić and me are doing. Also, Ann Sanfedele said she might try and call for an NYC meet-up, since I am here and we never met in person. And the meetup will be in early November. Btw. if anybody us near Stanford on Nov 2nd, you could come listen to me talk about Belgrade http://events.stanford.edu/events/716/71665/ (rsvp needed i think). Also, if you are in NYC today, and free, come listen to Jelena talk about her art at Residency Unlimited near Carol Gardens in Brooklyn - she is not part of this list, but is mentioned here, and her work is very interesting, as is the other collective from Slovenia, which will also be presenting https://www.facebook.com/events/871073039728879/ (no rsvp needed, just come by) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: 2 PESOS: Waiting for the R train in Brooklyn and skies over 4th Ave with ...PENTAX lens
sorry for the misleading url... glad the straing links are short enough however Here is a real TINY URL for the first pic -- the R train one for those who came in late... GOOD TINY URL... http://tinyurl.com/yjlj3e7 Re the comments for all of youse (so far)- The sky shot was just a grab of some lovely clouds that were surprising to see... as to the R train -- sometimes you just get shit lucky... I was sitting on the corresponding bench on my side of the tracks to the person (yes, really a person there) - I sat so I could get all the elements in the near wall, the dark, the opening where you can see the other bench and took one shot before the person was there... then I saw him sit down then the train came This was one time manual focus was really essential... I used the hyperfocal distance , braced myself on the bench arm, in fact, I may have had the camera on the bench arm when I took this one, for a tripod. I hoped I'd capture the movement of the train and that the guy on the bench wouldnt move... when you look at it really closely he's a bit soft focus. Aside to Mark -- I did do a bw and liked this better something more grungy and eerie in the color version - But as you thought it was cracking good it may turn up submitted for the book :-) Thanks for all the feedback, gang, I do appreciate it . ann http://annsan.smugmug.com eactiv...@aol.com wrote: In a message dated 11/3/2009 7:38:42 P.M. Really love the 1st one, Ann. That's a great shot. Excellent exposure and composition. Everything seems just right to me--especially the timing. The sky is nicely dramatic in the second one. Christian, you're right, the towers do lean a bit, but be easy on them, they're like 120 years old! g Besides, it wouldn't be a knarf-foto if there weren't something amiss, would there? g I actually wish that I'd have had a much wider lens than the 40mm. One misses the massiveness and the height of those old stone towers by being so far away. I'd have liked to get up nice and close with a 19mm or 24mm. I also wish I'd have gotten the guy mid-stride rather than with his feet together as they were, but I was looking more for where he was, and his relation to the rest of the bridge, rather than paying attention to his stride (as I should have been). I can't wait 'til I get to NYC again; I'll have the opportunity to bring a couple of slr bodies and plenty of lenses, so I'll be able to do a bit more, photographically speaking. Not that I'm complaining about some of the shots I took. It's fun and refreshing to be forced into the discipline of using one lens only for the whole weekend. Re: PESO: Friday Morning on the Brooklyn Bridge
What appeals to me about this shot is the timelessness of it. Being in BW and lack of cars/people on the bridge don't really give you much clue as to when it was taken. Could have been 50 years ago or yesterday. The rough, gritty nature of the shot is very appealing. Nice going! -- Bruce Wednesday, July 27, 2005, 3:40:08 PM, you wrote: ft Friday morning, I got up early. Annsan was still asleep (Thursday ft night's Scrabble night, so she gets home late). Hi Frank: BW photos are not my favorites but this one works well. Nice even tones, and a different view than many BB photos that I've seen, but still a classic type of composition. Frank Great image - the location of the tower makes for a very appealing composition. As an aside - did anyone catch the BBC series Seven Wonders of the Industrial World' in which the Brooklyn Bridge featured? It's construction was a major engineering challenge. http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/society_culture/industrialisation/seven_wonders_06.shtml Cheers Brian +++ Brian Walters Western Sydney, Australia Quoting frank theriault [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Friday morning, I got up early. Hi! Friday morning, I got up early. Annsan was still asleep (Thursday night's Scrabble night, so she gets home late). I went for a ride, not knowing where I was going, just to see some sights and soak in The City. Along the route, all of a sudden, there's the Brooklyn Bridge. I had to ride across it, which I did. The city, the bridge and the man (going away from the city)... It's a theme... Now, the not-so-good part ;-)... Frank, don'you see some dust in the middle of the sky? Julia suggested this were birds... Still, I think it has to be cleaned... Looks like you had a good ride anyway! Boris
RE: PESO: Friday Morning on the Brooklyn Bridge
Interesting shot ... the washed out sky really captures one aspect of NYC. Mmmm ... I'm hungry for a knish. Did you explore below the bridge? There's some great stuff down there. I guess I'll add to the accolades, it's a really nice shot, gives a gritty feeling of reality. (Don't let it go to your head though). frank theriault wrote: Friday morning, I got up early. OT: NYC Brooklyn baseball photo op on Saturday April 17
I know this is really short notice, but some of you in the NYC area might be interested in coming to see the opening day parade of the Inner City Sports Youth baseball league on Saturday April 17 at around 11am. I'll be part of the group from the New York Choral Society singing The Star-Spangled Banner and God Bless America. What I didn't realize (or wasn't told) was that there would be a parade of the teams and players as well. I've never been to this event before so I can't tell you what it's like. On the other hand, if you do go there and shoot, I'd like to know if you get any pictures of the chorus. You can find the event details and location here: http://www.eteamz.com/Innercitysports/handouts/ Note: good weather is forecast; however I'm told that the event will be cancelled if it rains and there is no alternate date. --jc

I sell it to you, but you would probably pay me in Deutschmarks! Selling someone the Brooklyn Bridge is an American way of saying someone is easily deceived. John Roebling was born in Germany, but did his important work near where I live in New Jersey, USA. His son Washington, who finished the Brooklyn Bridge, was thououghly American. I knew his granddaughter and did some work for her some time ago.
