Thanks all who have commented!

For the doubters, I made a virtual copy and have just drastically enlarged the
relevant portion of the bird. Yes, there is a fish in its beak…
Same link, now 5 images.

Yea, you can tell it's a Pentax when you see the closeup of the "parts"
the lens mount is unmistakable, no other manufacture uses that mount,
they don't actually show you the camera because... OK, it could be an
old Ricoh, film camera, but I think it was specifically digital, so I'm
assuming it was an old trade in. Maybe they didn't use a similarly
ancient Canon or Nikon because the interior parts weren't as sturdy, or
maybe they just decided on resale value.

Well, I'm still bothered by the branch - it just draws attention away
from the main subject.

To be even more nit-picky, I prefer the aspect ratio of the original.

I still reckon a few minutes with the cloning brush and/or cutting and
pasting over the branch would make it a better image.

Still can't make out the lurking Kraken. Only joking, Rick! Good for a
tourist brochure now. I have the 100-300 & see that it is rated about the
same as the 80-320 in the Pentax Lens Review Database. Well, I upgraded to
the HD 55-300 but actually find it no better in spite of it's glowing
review. I wonder about some of those reviews. The same goes for my 28-80
which is far better than the reviews would suggest.

PESO - Evening Fishing (re-crop)

2016-09-19 Thread Rick Womer
In response to Dan and Brian's comments:

Not a lot else to try without having the boat exiting the frame, or having
things look fuzzy (80-320 at 200mm and 1/60, and I'm not Steady Stenquist!).

Comments appreciated.

I like that a lot, especially the subtle reflections in the water. But,
like Dan, I find that lower left branch off-putting. If it were my

Peaceful scene.

I find the OoF branch in the lower right distracting. Although I like the
idea of a foreground element there from a composition point of view, this
particular branch doesn't work, to my eye.

That's a nice looking pelican, but I don't see the "History" connection.

I'm having a bit of trouble. I found some more lost film (Tri-X) that
contained two excellent historical (hysterical???) images, only to
realize my first SLR was an old Praktica. I wouldn't get my first Pentax
for another 15 years.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Like the inclusion of the fence post. Seems to fit this scene. The empty

Thanks. I pass this every day on my high school run, and was just
going up Saturday to shoot the chair. The ice fishermen were a
bonus.:-)

BTW , You would not catch me on ice this time of year.

I spent the weekend in Cornwall and did some cycling around old mining
trails. There were people picking blackberries from bushes growing from the
old arsenic-infected spoil heaps. Incredible really when there's so much
 unpolluted countryside with blackberries growing.

We watched Gasland at the international film festival last weekend. Quite an
eye-opener watching people setting their tap water alight. Anyway, this photo
reminded me of that film.

Cheers,
Dave

PESO -- Just Fishing

The most annoying thing about the K20D is that it seriously
underexposes when paired with a A lens. This file took a lot of
manipulation to look even this good.
