Re: [talk-ph] osgeo-ph december 2011 meetup
OSGeo is an umbrella organization of many free and open source geospatial software (i. e. QGIS, GRASS, Mapserver, etc.) [0]. This is not an elite community and participation is open to everyone. For a simple analogy I look at it as: OSM = open geo data OSGEO = open geo software We are also organizing local chapters (like osm-ph) to help spread the use of OSGEO software. The group is very young and will take form depending on how the group wants it to be [1]. I am sharing the meetup invitation here because in many osgeo local communities, osm is an important project for them. As for your question on the target profile, I actually don't know. I'm still discovering who in the PH is using osgeo software. I use many osgeo software (for work and for fun) hopefully this group can become a venue for users/developers in the PH to share skills. I didn't see any coastline mistakes there. However, the treatment of intermittent water is far from perfect, and not how I would have done it. I'd rather convert it to natural=wetland, wetland = tidalflat, indicating that mudflats show up at low tide. Doing this along the entire Canadian coastline, which is very extensive, is a tough task. The coastline is really peculiar in some places, like here: [3], so I'm afraid we haven't seen the last error. Re: [Talk-it] bar, pub, o cafe
Buona giornata a tutti.

[Talk-us] Counties and Unified City-Counties
I have a question regarding counties and special cases, where cities have merged with their surrounding county to form a city county. How can this be mapped? I have two possibilities: in Louisville, KY, we have Jefferson County. But there are other incorporated cities in that county, and one of them even extends beyond the county and has part in the adjacent county. So I have currently two relations for it, one being level=6 with the outline, the other being louisville level=8, with the same outline, but holes cut into it where the other cities are, and a 'dent' where one city lies to extends to the next county. In Georgia, we have Chattahoochee County, which is also identical to its county seat, Cusseta, and there are no other incorporated cities/towns in the county. So what's to do: create again two relations, one for the county and an identical for the city-county? (this is currently the case, but with different outlines from different sources, one more refined than the other? Or keep only one relation at level=6? -- cheers, Alex ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
