that Grub has gunzip support but I'm not sure if it's only focused on
unzipping kernels when loading them into RAM.
My last option is breaking Grub Super Disk into 2 floppies but I'd rather not
to do it.

As far as I remmember you should do a pivot root on the cramfs disk in
initrd/linuxrc. Thus the grub files would be outside the cramfs.
I will look at this pivot root thing, however i am interested in having the
grub files INSIDE the cramfs because these are my little files.

do you want to install Grub on your 3rd hard disk... Won't your BIOS
always load the 1st hard disk... or Are you going to chainload the grub
from another grub installed on your 1st hard disk mbr ?

if it fixes the issue but I do think that you may have other problem
because you say that it has been well installed Grub on the MBR.
I actually don't know anything about LVM

If the cd does not boot in the qemu environment that means that you have
not burned it correctly.

If your patch makes what you're saying that would improve Super Grub
Disk helping people reinstalling grub on the mbr when Windows
reinstallations.
If people tell me that the patch is not a good thing I will inform you.

There's no logfile for grub boot.
Maybe there should be a yast2 installation routine logfile but you say
that there was no error!
You can boot meanwhile trying to fix it with Super Grub Disk (

not the setup (hd0) because you would overwrite the solaris' grub on mbr.
And the next step is inside menu.lst or grub.conf from solaris' grub to
add something as:
title MY LINUX MENU
rootnoverify (hd0,2)
chainloader +1
boot
