Just now (5:40 ) at Dryden Lake Perri and I saw 11 Red-breasted Mergansers,
2 Bufflehead, 1 Red-necked Grebe, and 2 SANDHILL CRANES that flew over the
lake from the south, soared higher as they reached the north end, then

I would guess this is the wild-type GREYLAG GOOSE that has been hanging
around LaRue's Lagoon for a couple of months now (and has been reported as a
Greater White-fronted multiple times on the count sheets at the refuge.) I
suppose someone should tell them about this bird at some point.

In addition to the usual sparrows, buntings, goldfinches, and yellowthroats
in the Freese Road garden plots, I just got a quick look at a probable
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER before it flew across several plots and disappeared.

Along the same lines, Yashodhan Gharat, a student at Cornell, reported
seeing an AMERICAN WOODCOCK next to Olin Library yesterday morning.
Although it was acting injured, it ultimately flew away fine to the

Sparrows today. Although we don't have any at the feeders, I saw a COMMON
REDPOLL coming to a feeder near the base of Beam Hill (east) just now.

moving through the area, so I recommend getting out and listening at home in
the evening. These birds seem to roost during the day and then will sing
for a few minutes at dusk before migrating again.

I didn't see anything in the shallow ponds in the fields south of Hanshaw
Road today, but yesterday there was a SOLITARY SANDPIPER and a LESSER
YELLOWLEGS with a few Mallards in these wet areas.

Found by Tim Lenz, there is a WILLET feeding near Ring-billed Gulls along
the shore of the Treman Marina, visible from the west side of the swan pen
or the end of drive past the police station and marina.

We headed up to Montezuma afterwards but didn't see too much of note. The
best shorebird habitat by far is at Tschache Pool, where we saw Dunlin,
Least and Semipalmated sandpipers, and perhaps 30 Semipalmated Plovers.
