I purchased a new PC last evening.

Everything appears to be working properly on the new PC, but I can't get the
DX4WIN to talk to the VE7CC cluster software.

I copied the config files over to the new PC, I installed VE7CC software.

In the packet window of DX4WIN, I select LOCAL HOST 7300 for connection, but
nothing happens.  No errors, nada.

When I click on SH/DX in the packet window, it says "no connection active"

I can connect to other named packet sources in DX4WIN on the new computer, just
not LOCALHOST/7300.

Am I missing a setting in DX4WIN or VE7CC?

they are sharing or not sharing as the case may be the same COM port

I want to work a FT8 contact and then log it in DX4WIN. To do this at
the moment I make a QSO on WJST-X/FT8 , then close WJST-X and open
DX4WIN  ( or let DX4WIN /Radio interface time out and then log the
contact manually  A bit cumbersome in the digital age.
So what do you guys do?
1) Manually transfer the info to DX4WIN after the radio connection times
out, have to remember to enter all the band data, etc

2) The 990 has in addition to the USB virtual COM connection, a real COM
port I suspect but have not tried it that I could run both the USB/COM
and the REAl/COM dedicate one port to DX4WIN and dedicate the other
connection to WJST-X

3) WJST-X has a loging mode, so just log everything to WJST-X and then
import that log into DX4WIN later ?

4) Or Some possible permutation and combination I haven't
considered yet

It would be nice if we could even enter the name manually on our own  and be
able to export correctly to LoTW.
At present, DX4WIN is pretty much unusable for entering Satellite QSOs.

Hi All:

For some reason I am unable to see changes made to the DXWIN log after I

import the WSJT .adi file into the logger. I just made a WSJT qso,

logged it into the WSJT log, and it shows up in the log.adi file. I

then imported it into the logger, but the QSO doesn't show up in the

log. In fact after doing the "Import" it appears like nothing new was

added when I looked at the pop up screen showing the results of the import.

I did import this .adi file a week or so and FT8 Q's showed up in the

DX4WIN log windowhowever not all of themcouldn't find any VP/D

Q's for FT8 (the other modes work there though).

What am I doing wrong? Using version 9.

Tnx for any assistance you can provide. I really don't want to enter

all those FT8 Q's manually!

I take this as, he will be looking into updating this feature of his

I asked about this several months back and likewise, never saw any
response. My current "fix" is to hand patch the LOTW generated adif
files with the correct satellite name manually before uploading to LOTW.
Specifically, I asked about providing updates to the satellite "list"

That's it. Either the March 12th website certificate update caused this, or
whomever is running the dx4win.com website enabled automatic redirection
from http to https.
To support Windows XP, that redirect will need to be turned off.
Unfortunately, this has a security impact for everyone not running Windows
XP.

DOS and I'll need to migrate my files to the new
computer (if they will work there) and I'll need to
re-install DX4WIN on the new computer (if I decide
to stay with it since I'm so p'd-off right now) and
I'll need to get T-QSL working on the new box and
I'll need to modify the mounting for the new computer
since its dimensions will surely be different than now
and I'll need to ... yadda-yadda-yadda ... so many things that I haven't
even thought of at this point.

At my age and after just moving to a new QTH and having to buy/install
a new tower/antennas, I don't know if all this is really worth it. 57 years
in Ham Radio might be enough.

...time for my nap.

Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Check For Updates Won't Run

It's not antivirus - I copied DX4WIN 9.0.4.1176 on a Windows XP system I use
for TQSL testing and got the same error:
System error : The host name in the certificate is invalid or does not match

I dug into this as penance for giving an incorrect answer earlier.

The issue is Windows XP - the SSL certificate for DX4WIN is signed with the
SHA256 algorithm, which Windows XP does not support.
Try opening Internet Explorer and using that to download the .INF file and
you'll get the same error. You can download the file using Firefox because
Firefox has it's own built-in cryptographic libraries that aren't stuck in 2010.

The SSL certificate for the site was issued 3/12/2018, so that's what caused
the issue, not some update to DX4WIN. You can not get website certificates that
work with Windows XP's crypto libraries because most browsers will reject those
certificates. You can't run anything new than IE 8 on Windows XP, so there's no
upgrade available for you.

There's not a lot of choices here.
First, DX4WIN could change their website to not automatically redirect
http://dx4win.com/ to https://dx4win.com/ - that would allow the updates to
work at the cost of compromising the security of everyone not running Windows
XP.

Second, DX4WIN could change how it's downloading - using something like cURL to
do the downloads (that's what a do for TQSL so Windows 2000 and Windows XP can
work) rather than the built-in Windows libraries.

Probably the only simple fix is turning https off, which is horrible. Everyone
not running XP being held hostage to the XP systems.

There's nothing that you can do to correct this on your end other than an
upgrade to a supported OS.

This is not a XP issue, it is a Paul issue at DX4Win to fix. If you can open
the www URL at listed, then there is nothing wrong with XP. As an aside I can
update N1MM+ with no issues. And load new versions of WSJT without any problems.

Hi Ed,

The behavior I have noticed when clicking on spots, unless FT8 is noted in the
"Remarks"
field in the DX Cluster window,

Example: DX de F4GAJ: 7074.0 K0UA FT8 TU QSO...

the mode will revert to SSB, as DX4WIN will read the mode from the radio. You
will have
to manually change the mode after saving the QSO.

It's not "automatic" in the sense that you still need to go to
Help->Check for updates. Once you're there, if there are updates, yes,
they will download and install automatically.

Some applications will automatically check periodically without manual
intervention, but D4W doesn't do that.

Update is not automatic but there is no need for a separate software
anymore. You need to go to Help>Check for updates and follow the procedure.

Also have in mind that only QSOs after 21 January 2018 are valid for Z6.
So previous QSOs with Kossovo are not valid for DXCC as Z6

[Dx4win] Feature Request

2014-01-07 Thread R.T.Liddy
I can't resist jumping on the bandwagon.

In my Contest Logging Program (CTWin), logged stations get posted
on their appropriate frequency on the Bandmap so you can see who is
where and if worked. It's very helpful for Search Pounce.

I'd like DX4WIN to do the same thing. Right now, the only way they
end up on the Bandmap is to have them spotted on the Packet Cluster
unless I'm not aware of some option. I work a lot of stations that aren't
spotted and I don't spot them myself if they're common.

Bob,
So you think it's a great fabulous program. Then continue using
it. There are other's who want to see some changes. They should
not be subjected from people like you and Art crawling out of
your comfort zones making snarky comments as you did.
By the way that pic on your qrz.com/K8BL is pretty scary.
You should put another one in it's place.

The support provided by Jim AD1C has been beyond excellent. I have had
no problem whatsoever with getting thousands of QSOs into LoTW and
eQSL - export them to a file, convert it in TQSL and send it to LoTW. It's
 a piece of cake.

Sure, there are a few kinks in DX4WIN, but nothing I can't live with. Overall,
 I think it's a fabulous program.

Another thread has appeared by Hams that are in favor and discussing in

Constructive criticism is good, snarky comments are not helpful.

A wish list of new features and/or improvements would be much better

The support provided by Jim AD1C has been beyond excellent. I have had
no problem whatsoever with getting thousands of QSOs into LoTW and

a piece of cake.

My old HP 1100A is about to die, and I'm looking for a replacement.

My only real criteria is that it doesn't cause the labels to creep as
does my 1100A, which results in having to reprint over (and over) again.

Networking would be great, but is not essential.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4Win wish list (In addition to xmmt.ocx)

2013-10-11 Thread R.T.Liddy
I'd like to say how much I truly enjoy using DX4WIN with all its
capabilities and flexibility. Having AD1C doing the tremendous
job of keeping so many things up-to-date and working properly
is fabulous!

Here is something I'd like to see. When I work a station that hasn't
been spotted, I'd like it to appear on the BandMap without me
needing to spot it myself. And, I'd like to be able to enter a station
on the BandMap without working it or spotting it just like can be
done with CTRL+ENTER on many Contest Programs. Either of
these would allow me cruise the Band and know who is where
without clogging up the Packet Network with some spots that no
one else might care about.

Subject: [Dx4win] DX4Win wish list (In addition to xmmt.ocx)

DX4Win is certainly due a refresh. My wish
list (in addition to xmmt.ocx support) for
the next release includes the following:

QRZ.com XML data subscription support in the
F3 Callsign/Mgr Lookup window. This is LONG
OVERDUE! Having to use a callbook CD is so
archaic and annoying, since they are out of
date as soon as you get them.

Automatic removal of old spots from the DX
Spots window (as happens in the BandMap). A
Preferences option to control this behavior
would be nice. That would keep those who
like it the way it is happy, too.

Smooth, clean and transparent disabling of
the radio interface if the radio is turned
off before shutting down DX4Win. Automatic
re-establishment of the connection if the
radio is turned back on. Other programs do
this, e.g. WriteLog. An indicator on the QSO
window that the rig interface is not working
would be nice, e.g. a blinking red dot,
showing No Rig! in the frequency box, or
flashing frequency/mode info. But it should
not hang DX4Win and demand that the operator
click on a dialog box to proceed.

Proper logging of split frequency operation.
The Frequency box should always be the receive
frequency, i.e. the frequency that the DX is
transmitting on. The QSX (transmit) frequency
should be logged in a field separate from the
current Frequency box only if operating split.
(It is currently done in reverse from this.)

Well, that's my list of the biggest annoyances.
I am sure there are others that I haven't
thought of right now.

I recently evaluated DXLab and HRDeluxe.
Quite frankly, DX4Win is much better than
either of these in ease of use, award
tracking, award submission and many other
areas. Not to mention AD1C's efforts on all
the various database files! Now, if only it
could be updated to fix the above problems,
I would be a very happy camper!

Craig, K0CF

Re: [Dx4win] LoTW Upload - Filenames

2012-12-10 Thread R.T.Liddy
I used to use a file-naming convention similar to yours, Ed. I'd use
L for LOTW and the upload date such as MMDDYY. For today
it would be L121012.

It's a pretty common way of doing it and I'm sure a lot of folks probably
used a similar system. But, then I read that one of the bugs at the
ARRL LOTW computer was that if a Log Submission came in with the
same name as an earlier one that hadn't been processed yet, the new
one would replace the earlier one in queue. So, if my L120112 came in
before John Doe's L120112 file, mine would be deleted from being entered
into LOTW and I wouldn't know it unless I was closely tracking everything.
I might never know if a lot of Q's were missing.

Now, I use a file-naming convention that would be highly unlikely used by
anyone else. It's possible, but highly unlikely.

The ARRL has fixed this bug and all files are now supposedly loaded into LOTW
whether they have duplicate names or not. But, I have to wonder about ones
I loaded in the past. Did any get deleted due to being duplicated by name
with someone else's newer ones? I still have all my .TQ8 files and I could
just re-upload them to LOTW. But, that would just add to the massive delays
that the LOTW system has been experiencing. So, I won't do it now.

I routinely compare all my credits for DXCC with what I have in DX4WIN to make
sure they match. But, it gets very tedious for other Awards and impossibly
tedious for WPX.

Maybe I'll just do a spot-check to see if any problems show up. Makes you
wonder how long the duplicate filename problem existed before anyone finally
realized it and the LOTW Software Gurus corrected it.

The following works for me in determining the interval LOTW takes to process
my uploads.
I name my uploads based on the date ie LOTW12102012. Then I note the
calender for
that date then I just wait for a later date to show under find call in
LOTW, this gives me
the interval for that upload.

Well for me, the clublog feature was exactly what I wanted in this case,

I can see where there might be other variations as well. None of the
examples that I can think of (including the one I started this thread

simpler, especially for remote DX. The entire procedure should
be able to be done on-line. I've seen a number of stations on

The delay is growing out of control - between 12/1 and 112/2
there were 2.5 times as many QSOs uploaded as LotW processed
and LotW has been processing an *average* of 11,000 QSOs per
minute or about 264,000 QSOs per day based on the information
 on the home page.

If one plots a trend line, the delay is growing exponentially.
The trend indicates a file uploaded *today* is not likely to
be processed *for more than five weeks* based on the current
rate of growth in the backlog.  Based on the processing time
for files uploaded at 0500z on 12/2, there were about 2.25
million unprocessed QSOs in the queue at that time - and that
was 48 hours *after* the deadline for submitting CQWW CW logs.
With the trend in growth between 11/25 and 12/2, the queue could
hold as many *10 million* unprocessed QSOs (although that is
 unlikely)!

I know the folks in Newington are saying trust us, but their
performance - and complete failure to provide *current data* -
particularly the failure to provide accurate current status on
the size of the processing queue - makes trust very difficult.

In 2012 alone, I operated portable from 29 different locations (Grid Squares)

and every one of these? Maybe I underestimate the process?

Agreed. Signing up for multiple portable operations is no big deal.

But, each non-USA station must send a copy of his/her operating
license plus a copy of a government issued ID such as drivers
license, passport to this place in Newington. If I asked my local
commissar in Blockavia if I should do this, he would probably
have me locked up for being so stupid... I am certainly not going
to send copies of my drivers license / passport to a foreign
country, thru the 'mail' to get an award with the certainty my
ID will be stolen...  So,I don't think it's lazy, just common sense...
It's bad enough sending Green Stamps that never arrive...

and the difficulty of signing up their multiple portable operations.

There is absolutely no issue of singing a portable operation once you
have the initial certificate.  It takes less than one business day
unless the operation is from a location that has specific access and
licensing requirements.  Even then, it's no more difficult than sending
the same documentation to ARRL that would be needed to be accepted for
DXCC (typically copy of license and landing permit).

Anyone who complains about the sign-up process is too lazy to send
copies of license and ID (equivalent to ham ticket and drivers
license) with a valid mailing address and wait for the password to
be mailed to the address on the ID.

In many cases the process can be short circuited by providing the
documentation in person at one of the many international conventions
ARRL/DXCC/LotW staff attend on a regular basis.

I agree that there is a lot of over-spotting taking place over the Cluster
Network. We've seen a lot of  TNX for the nice QSO, 73 spots lately
which seems pretty worthless to me. Why would the World care about
somebody thanking for a QSO which they just thanked over the air?

Anyway  I'd like to be able to place a station on my BandMap that I just
worked but didn't spot since it was common or of no concern to Cluster

spotting it on the Cluster.

The Same Call Sign window incorrectly returned a QSO I had with KD3DK. The

But in the Logbook sorted by Date I found the QSO I had with KD3WK

There are four different kinds of callsign matches.  It sounds like
you have Fuzzy selected in your preferences.

Having said that, if your QSO window is showing a particular call as

both the Same Call and the Logbook windows.  If it is not, then
something is wrong.

If you are connected to a CC cluster node,  you can use the dxtest

But you'd have to do this via the DX Spots window, not via ALT-A.

SET DX FILTER ( Cty K and Cty VE ) AND ( SpotterCty = K Or SpotterCty =

This is what it does..

It excludes K VE stations from being spotted  AND
It supplies spots only from K VE stations  AND
It excludes all spots from a certain spotter.

Hope this helps users on newer AR-Clusters.

avoid seeing Skimmer spots of domestic CQ'ers.  It's easy

The Node I use has VERY flexible filters. I have had the certain spotter's
un-hearable spots completely eliminated. The Node allows me to filter
by Continent, Spotter, Country, etc., etc., etc.

AND, the Node has Skimmers which can be turned on/off at will and set
to only spot by numerous criteria.  It's pretty new and absolutely great!!

Everyone should give it a try!!  It's  KQ8M.NO-IP.ORG

It's run by Tim KQ8M who is a long-time DX-er and Contester and he
bends over backwards to accomodate the Users' needs.

Tim will help you set up a Filter customized for you.  Once you have
it, you can possibly use it on your regular Cluster.

Is there a way to screen off spots from a spotter using DX4WIN?
There is a certain spotter that will go un-named, that spots DX spots that
 I
can never hear anyway. It's annoying to me to get these spots.
My ham friend says that his free logging program has this feature but I'm
not ready to give up on DX4WIN as I like it.

Set up a filter at your node, so the spots won't even be sent to
DX4WIN.  Syntax varies between the different Cluster software, so you'll
have to check the docs.  If you have trouble with it, feel free to email
me directly and tell me which softwqare the node uses (usually found in
the sign-on headers or with show/version).

FYI

Here is the Filter I use on my local AR-Cluster ( KQ8M.NO-IP.ORG )
which is running Version 6 :

SET DX FILTER ( Cty K and Cty VE ) AND ( SpotterCty = K Or SpotterCty =
VE ) AND SPOTTER W3LPL -3

This is what it does..

It excludes K VE stations from being spotted  AND
It supplies spots only from K VE stations  AND
It excludes all spots from a certain spotter.

Hope this helps users on newer AR-Clusters.

73/GL,   Bob K8BL

P.S.  The exclusion of the K VE stations being spotted is to
avoid seeing Skimmer spots of domestic CQ'ers.  It's easy
to turn them back ON during domestic Contests.

The On-line DXCC Application form is up:

    https://p1k.arrl.org/onlinedxcc/

Step 2 says:

If you use a logging program, you will find it faster and more
accurate to prepare an ADIF file containing the QSO information for
the QSLs that you want to submit with your application rather than
manually entering the information from each card. Use the Import ADIF
tab to import your ADIF file.

Here's how you can do this in DX4WIN:

First, peferform a DXCC Submission from the Reports menu (see
http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/dxcc.html for help)

To export ADIF, you will have to use an F8 search.  Make sure your QSO
window is fully expanded (using F5) so the Award Flags are visible at
the bottom.  Now, if you are submitting any credits for the DXCC Mixed
award, use F8 to search for 'S' in the DXCC Mixed Award flag.  Then
File | Import/Export, and after making sure ADIF is selected, File |
Export.  DX4WIN will ask if you want to use the current active filter.
Answer YES.  Once that's done, do the same for your DXCC Band and
DXCC Mode submissions.   Make sure you don't over-write the ADIF files
you create before uploading them to the ARRL server (i.e. don't save
them all to the same file name).  I can't tell if the application will
let you upload multiple ADIF files, or if you only get one shot.
Maybe someone who does this can add more details, and this can be
added to the DXCC application note.

So, the Entity would be obvious from the Call.

However, some Countries use the same prefix for several ARRL Entities and
there needs to be some way to differentiate them in the database.
An HK0 could be San Andres or Malpelo, so a /M is put after the HK0 to

Some DXCC prefixes became the standard official ones AFTER the

know what to do with it.  I looked at a couple of the QSOs on the report and
looked them up in LOTW and DX4WIN.  They appear to be confirmed in both places
(showing LOTW CNFM) so I don't understand why they are showing on this report
and what, if anything, I need to do with this information.  I did not find this
addressed on Jim's DX4WIN uber-wonder page of info.

Re: [Dx4win] Call Sign Lookup (F3) EXT Data . FIXED

2011-11-10 Thread R.T.Liddy

When I hit F3 in the QSO Window, the Callsign/Mgr lookup Window
comes up and has the Station's Call in the Callsign Box, but nothing
else happens. All I see is a dotted outline where something might be
but it's empty.

I have HTTP://WWW.QRZ.COM/db/ in both places in the Preferences,
Website callsign lookup Box and have a checkmark in Enabled.

I had never tried this feature before and it doesn't work when I put in
these entries.

If I put in http://hamcall.net/call?callsign= in both places, I get the same
result.

Suggestions?

Hello All:

Many thanks to Kostas SV1DPI the fix has been provided.

He recommended changing both lookup strings to the following:  *
HTTP://WWW.QRZ.COM/db/*

This works!  Make sure that no other data sources are selected in Data
source parameters.

I thought Paul was going to have to do an update before it would work
properely???  Many of us asked for that over 3 months ago ( actually we
asked Paul to implement XML for paid subscribers of QRZ.COM ).
To my knowledge nothing has been done!?  As far as using the F3 key you must
hit the ENTER key after the F3 window pops up with the call shown.  The
program will then open QRZ.com to that call.

Kostas,

I'm confused by your instructions.  I try to see each year how many

- In that window I do not see a pop up menu that says Add
... I'm lost.

In QSO window FilterSelection
In opo up window click add
replace this name with 2011
write the dates in date boxes
check date filter
and finally click  update and ok
Now you are able to select 2011 from Filterselection and to see your dxcc

[Dx4win] Confirmations Changed, LOTW

2011-04-06 Thread R.T.Liddy
Recently, I downloaded confirmations from LOTW.  A couple of odd
things happened.

1- I noticed it said 45 LOTW QSO's were confirmed even though I had
downloaded 60 LOTW Confirmations. Out of curiosity, I imported the
same file that I got from LOTW again and it said 10 LOTW QSO's
were confirmed. Still curious, I did it again and it said 5 LOTW QSO's
were confirmed!!  Finally, I did it again and the import report said that
    zero LOTW QSO's were confirmed!!!
Q1- Why didn't ALL the LOTW QSO's get confirmed the first time through
and I had to import the SAME file several times to get them confirmed?

2- During the process above, my DXCC Award Report changed in a small
way I wasn't expecting. All the new PJ's came up as C's correctly as
they should have which was good.  But, for Denmark, the * for Phone
and * for 20M changed to C's. I've had these confirmed and DXCC credited
    for over 40 years!
Q2- Why would these have changed back to C's and how do I get them back
to *'s again as they should be?

I'm running 8.04 for now since I'm still getting accustomed to the program
since installing it a few months ago.

[Dx4win] Report Window Entries

2011-01-05 Thread R.T.Liddy
Fellow DX4WIN'ers,

I'm still in the learning mode with DX4WIN since getting it in
December.  I've been able to figure a lot of things out on my
own by playing around and using the Help File.

I've imported almost 30,000 QSOs from my previous logging
program and from LOTW.  I had over 1200 import errors, but I've
fixed all those easily - tedious process.

When I look at my QSOs with the Report Window for DXCC, it shows
nothing but S's.  OK, after 50 years as a Ham I have lots of Countries
and Bands and Modes Confirmed and the DX4WIN appears to show
just about all of them.  However, these ALL have been submitted and
counted for various Awards. Same goes for WAS, but the Report shows
all C's for them.

So, is there a way to turn all of these S's and C's to the *'s that indicate
their
correct status?  I certainly don't want to sit at the computer and manually
search for each of these thousands of QSO's and change them.  It would
literally be thousands of entries to be changed.

Maybe I'm missing some simple procedure that would update them ALL?
That would be wonderful because I simply wouldn't do it one at a time.

Thanks,   Bob K8BL

Re: [Dx4win] Label Printing

2010-12-22 Thread R.T.Liddy
Hi Alan,

Sorry I didn't reply sooner - I missed it when it first came in and
a bunch of others caused it to scroll way down to another page.

Well, I tried putting various numbers into the Missing Labels box
with various results.

If I put 0 in there, it prints a label and scrolls to the bottom 11 down.
If I put 1 in there, it scrolls down 1, prints, then scrolls to the bottom
  of the 11 page.
If I put 11 in there, it scrolls down 11, prints, then scrolls another 11.

I don't need/want it to scroll anywhere, period.  I merely want a choice
to print a label and line feed to where the next label would start, then STOP.

Perhaps, if the program wouldn't issue a Form Feed after printing a single
label and the Missing Labels was set to 0, it would work. (???)

I've ruined so many labels already playing around with different options. And,
if I send it to my tractor feed line printer I get the same results and waste
lots of sheets of paper. (Darn Form Feed!)

Until I get some kind of actual fix, I'm just going to go back to my old DOS
computer and DXBase 4.5 and print the one or two labels or addresses I need.

Thanks for the suggestions.  If I give up on ever using the tractor feed label
printer and use my inkjet printer, I'll try your suggestions there.

73 MX,   Bob K8BL

P.S.  I used your suggestions with my inkjet printer and was able to put labels
anywhere I wanted on plain paper by adjusting measurements with the
   Custom 1 formatter option.   :O)

I can understand you wanting to use a continuous roll of labels for only a
couple of labels, BUT, DX4WIN does allow the use of sheets of labels for
just a few labels. In the label print window there is a box MISSING LABELS.
So let's say you have a sheet of labels that you have already printed 5
labels from. So you put 5 in the missing labels box and it will start with
the 6th label which should be the first blank label on your partly used
page. I use type 8160 labels, 2 5/8 inch long and 1 inch high. They fit FB
on my QSL cards.

My only problem is the latest version 8.04 does not remember my preferred
settings as previous versions did. It always goes to the default of PRINT
QSL MANAGER LABEL, PRINT VIA MANAGER, PRINT METHOD LABEL being selected and
PRINT GROUP NAME not being selected. I always change it to PRINT METHOD
LABEL being deselected and PRINT GROUP NAMES being selected but it won't
remember these settings. Anyone else have a problem with this??

Subject: [Dx4win] Label Printing

Hi All,

Just installed DX4WIN and am trying to learn its many features.

I've run into a couple problems that I can't find discussed in the
Help files.  I'll deal with them one at a time so as not to get too
 confusing.

Labels:

I don't often print more than a few labels.  Many times it's just one
to respond to an incoming QSL. I can see how to do sheets of labels
on my inkjet printer but can't imagine doing that many (a sheetfull).

I have an old tractor feed printer where I printed my labels from my
previous logging program. It's merely one across. The labels are
3 1/2 in. X 15/16 in. They are also known as Avery 4013 style.

I've tried numerous setups in the Label Editor and can get a label
to print OK. BUT, after it prints the label it appears a Form Feed
is sent to the printer because it feeds out a whole page length of
labels. That's a real waste of a lot of labels since rolling them back
peels them off and makes a mess.

I tried Custom5 and set the Page Width to 3 1/2 and the Page Height
to 1.0, but it still feeds out like an 11 sheet. I set them to Zero and
I still get a form feed to 11.

There is a choice for Label Name 4013, but it still feeds out like an 11
 Form Feed.

Any suggestions?

[Dx4win] Radio Label Problems - Setup?

2010-12-20 Thread R.T.Liddy
Hi All,

I'm having trouble printing a label to a tractor feed label printer.  DX4WIN
seems to want to
issue a Form Feed after my 1 (one) label and a long stream of blank labels
result. I've
tried various label formats and keep wasting loads of labels. The labels are
Avery 4013
and when I use that choice I still end up with a long stream of blank labels
instead of
just the one I want/need. (ZP6CW told me how to print onto a QSL directly, but
I only
want to print on just one label once in a while - thanks, Doug.)

Also, DX4WIN complains about talking to my Radio (ICOM-7700). I get an error
that says,
Radio timed out. Radio interface has been disabled. In the preferences, I
selected both
types of 7700 and set the Hex Address correctly as 74h. My interface works OK
with
CTWin and also with CT-DOS (previous computer).

These two items seem to be pretty simple, so I don't know what I could be doing
wrong.
I scoured the Help Files and nothing I've tried yet has been able to fix these
problems.

I've been able to Import OK and connect to DX packetclusters OK and enter QSO's
OK.
Anybody got any suggestions for me?

Is the baud rate correct?  The default baud rate is 4800 baud, and the
radio should be programmed to 4800 baud as well (not auto).  If you
want to change the baud rate in DX4WIN, you have to uncheck the
 default baud rate box.

Also play with the DTR/RTS check boxes, try all four combinations.  If
you are using a real ICOM CI-V interface, then this should not be
necessary.
