Re: [Dx4win] Printing Address and or QSO Strips

2023-02-20 Thread Eric Rosenberg

I used a Brother QL-550 until recently for DX4Win and as a QSL bureau
sorter.

Either the Brother driver changed, the DX4Win driver changed (v8 vs v9),
or an update to Win10 caused it to stop working, sadly, I didn't keep
track.

I haven't been able to get it to work lately. When it worked, it was
fantastic.

To all,

Here are some settings that I use for printing labels on my DYMO
LabelWriter 450.
Works OK but each time the system complains about not being able to set
the custom paper size.
I don't QSL much anymore with LOTW being available so I haven't spent
any time making improvements.

Re: [Dx4win] Printing labels for newly received Bureau QSL cards.

2023-01-28 Thread k7acz
Maybe not the best way to do it but when I have that situation I go to
the QSO's that I want to print and place a note in the NOTES FOR THIS
QSO such as Rcvd from BURO 1/2/23. You only need to type this once,
then use CTL+C to copy the note to the rest of the QSL's you want to
print. So what you are doing is to find the QSL's to print (one by
one), In the label box place Y, place BURO in the method box, the do
the CTL+C to put your note in the NOTES FOR THIS QSO box. Then do a F8
search for this note you made (in this example Rcvd from BURO 1/2/23).
The search will only find the QSO's you marked as Rcvd from BURO
1/2/23 and you can now print only those QSL's in question. You also
have a notation of when and how you received the incoming QSL that you
did not have before.

First make sure you checked the correct checkboxes for confirming a QSO
with a QSL card. There is no such thing as a Label Cnfm box - there are
two separate checkboxes: the one called Label is used to mark the QSO in
order to send out a paper QSL card to the station worked, while the
other one, called Cnfm is used to mark a QSO for having received a paper
QSL card. I apologize if I'm stating the obvious, but the reason I

Presumably, you have 29 thousand QSLs i.e. confirmed QSOs and if so,
they have nothing to do with needing to print QSL labels that are
selected by checking the Label box. Don't mess with them or you may wipe
out your confirmation statistics and re-confirming 29 thousand entries
manually is not something you'd want to attempt. If you filter by the
Label=Y, the Report:Loogbook window will display only the QSOs marked
for label printing.

When I want to print only a select few of the labels marked for
printing, I usually set each QSO with Set QSL Date to today's date one
at a time. When you now filter for Label=Y and QSL Date=01-27-2023, the
Report:Loogbook window should display only those QSOs you want to print

Re: [Dx4win] Printing with Brother DK-1201 labels?

2020-08-07 Thread Wayne M

Hi Kostas, and anyone else having this issue.

I am having the same issue with v9.x Of DX4W. After spending a lot of
time trying to get the Dymo 450 to print labels correctly, I went to
V8.05 and found out it worked as described. Something in V 9.X is broken
with the Custom Label part of DX4W 9.x.

Since there has been no other posts I have to figure no one else has a
work around or fix.

I am writing here to let everyone who has this problem know, the only
way I was able to get the labels to print correctly was to use DX4W8.05.
DX4W 8.05 and 9.x will work on the same computer in different
directories and you have to export v9.x logs to version 8.05 in order to
print the labels.

the paper size in the application as 2-37"x2"

I created another custom label using the label's metric size, but got the
same error.

My guess is that this is a DX4Win problem.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

[Dx4win] Printing with Brother DK-1201 labels?

2020-07-31 Thread Eric Rosenberg
I'm having a terrible time printing Brother DK-1201 labels with my Brother
QL-550 printer.

The printer is similar to the Dymos, being a Die Cut PC Label Printer, with
the labels on a spool not a sheet.

The label size is 29 mm x 90 mm (1-1/7" x 3-1/2").

I've set up a custom format, filling in only the following:
Label Width and Label Height (3.500 and 1.140 inches)
Nr across and Nr down (1 and 1)
Paper size (custom)
Page width and Page height ( (3.500 and 1.14 inches)

All other dimensions are 0.000

When I try to print, I get an error message "the roll of labels or tape
inside the machine does not matches the one selected in the application."
It also shows the paper size in the printer as being what I set it at, but
the paper size in the application as 2-37"x2"

I created another custom label using the label's metric size, but got the
same error.

My guess is that this is a DX4Win problem.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Eric,

Do you have an older copy of DX4W like 8.05? Using that got labels to
edit and print properly.

I can't get DX4Win to print correctly. I worked with Paul with no

Any suggestions? An outboard driver or separate program for printing

Hi All,

I now have a Dymo 450 Turbo LabelWriter. I've been try to print labels
from DX4W as I have in the past with Avery labels.

After a lot of experimenting I've come to the conclusion the label
editing for size is not working. No matter what I put in the editor the
report box is still to long for the standard 2 1/4 x 1 1/4 Dymo label.
On Jim's web site there is an app note for Dymo printing which I've been
trying to work with and brought me to this conclusion.

Has anyone else found this out and have you found a work around?

Is there a way to print labels to a CSV file that could be imported to
LabelWriter?

Thanks,

Wayne?? WA1PMA

Hi Guy,

This converts to the same size label I'm using ref number 30334 which is
2 1/4 x 1 1/4 inches. I'm guessing you made this custom label in an
earlier version of DX4W? I may try reloading an older version of DX4WIN
and see if the editor works there.

This is very frustrating, and disappointing.

Re: [Dx4win] Printing duplicate qsl cards.

2018-02-24 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Bill,

I presume you mean that you have the defaults set to print a QSL for every
QSO?

File > Preferences > QSO > QSL Card box checked

In this case, simply set Label to N for each duplicate QSO. You may find it
easier to have your default set to No and change it to Yes for the labels
you want to print.

OK, I used to know how to do this but have obviously forgotten.

Using Version 9

I am setting up (trying to that is) to print directly to one of my
pre-printed QSLs. The card is 5.5W x 3.5H. The info needs to print in
the

top right corner, starting at 2.81 from the left and the size of the
printing window is 2.69 x 1.69 inches.

I have created a custom label (Custom1) with label width and height
set as
above. Spacing left is 2.81 and spacing top is .16. Nr Across and
Down is 1.
I have set a custom paper size of 5.5 x 3.5 and that seems to be the
issue.

When I click Ok, I get a "Not able to set Custom Paper Size" message. In
'Preview', I get a graphic of the label in the correct position but
the page

size is 8.5 x 11.

Just found out that it does not like 4 x 6 but accepts 5 x 7.

Am I missing something or is what I'm trying to do just plain illegal?

Thanks,

[Dx4win] Printing Lables

2016-02-04 Thread glyn
Hello Bernie,

To change the label setting go into print QSL then in the little box top
left marked current label type in the "Epson type number". I always use
compatible labels from Amazon there the 5Star brand there cheap and good,
never had a problem in years of use and thousands of printed cards.

I use Compatible 5 star and set it for Epson L7160 which is 3 x 7 columns =
21 lables. My type face is 10 set in Label preference.

That way I print off loads pour from a sheet of labels and being small they
fit any type of QSL card. If you need bigger labels just look at the serial
number for Epson and then order 5 Star compatible from Amazon.

The Avery Numbers Are:

1X2 = L7168

2X4 = L7169

2X6 =L7166

2x8= L7165

2x10=L7163

3x4= L7164

2x7= L7163

2x8=L7162

3x6=L7161

3x7=L7160

3x8=L7159

So just put any of the above numbers in to DX4Win Label type and you are
ready to go and print off what you want. All you need is 5 Star Labels
asthey are so much cheaper than Epson and just as good.

Hope this helps

Re: [Dx4win] Printing Lables

2016-02-04 Thread w...@att.net
Tnx Glyn for your info, gd deal.
What The problem I see with my labels are the way the finished type appears on
the label
The type is squeezed to the left side of the label instead of spreading out
across the 1x4 inches label
Prints out like it's on a 25/8
All the text is to the left side, not spread out across the label
It's like one size fits all
Perhaps the problem is I use two different fonts a larger font for the callsign
a smaller one for the QSL information?
Tnx so much.

Well, when you press F2, does the Label field in the QSO data window
change from N to Y? This would be good to know. If you don't see that,
make sure you're in Expert mode, then F5 until you can see it.

If not, then pressing F2 is not set to change it, possibly because your
DX4Win.ini file got hosed up. You say you set the F2 in preferences to
Mark for printing a label. Open the DX4Win.ini with a text editor and
check to see that the flag called F_F2_Label is set to 1 and not 0.

You can also go to QSLs - Set QSL Label Flag and see if this makes any
difference (i.e. change Label to Y).

And finally, when you go to print, do you select Print QSL Labels or
Print Labels in Sequence? Try both and see if there is a difference. I
never use Sequence so I can't help you there...

Good luck.

Re: [Dx4win] printing labels still again..

2015-03-18 Thread bob

Well at this time I can not find the .ini file.

BUT I downloaded DX4WIN again. Moved a log over and the F2 F8 sequence
pattern
I am so used to now works. YES the hitting F2 now sets the flag NOW to Y
from N.

Thanks to you all. and special thanks to Mike W0VTT for helping try and
get this
resolved over the phone. He took my log and it worked fine so as
suggested I

reinstalled DX4WIN and it appears to be good for now.

I now need to reset preferences etc. I'll let you know.

WOW...after all these years this is the first real issue I have ever had
with DX4WIN and thanks for all

great help out there.

Re: [Dx4win] Printing labels

Sounds like you have a filter selected so you are only getting a label for the
last QSO you looked at. Before you print the labels go into - Filter - Cancel
Filter.

[Dx4win] Printing Labels showing frequency

2013-09-15 Thread ALAN ZACK
I've been poking around various HELP topics but can't find an answer to
this.

I presently have my labels set up with small windows showing the following
QSO info:

DATE UTC BAND RST 2X

When I print the labels this info is filled in. Example:

 DATE UTC BAND RST 2X

15-SEP-2013 2156 14 MHZ 599 CW

Rather than just showing the band (14 MHZ) is there a way to show the exact
freq logged (14012.0)?

My contest loggers always show the exact freq I worked a station (ex:
14012.0) rather than just 14.000 or 14 MHZ. When I transfer my contest logs
(via ADIF) into DX4WIN the exact freq appears in my FREQ (KHZ) little box in
the main logging window after the download. I am now in the habit when I log
a regular every day QSO I fill in the exact freq in this same window. But
when I print the labels it will just print 14 MHZ.

Re: [Dx4win] Printing On Labels Questions

2012-07-05 Thread ALAN ZACK
Hi Eric,

1. I also use 5160 labels with no problems. On the PRINT QSL LABELS edit
widow I use the drop down list to select 5160 labels and that automatically
sets up the sizing and select Arial for my callsign and body fonts. I also
unclick the COMMERCIAL block. DX4WIN remembers these settings and I never
have to change it before I print the next labels.

2. I do not know of any way to print 2 groups names. I have never tried it.
It would seem there would not be enough room to do so on the label. Maybe
someone else can help with this one.

3. I have never had this problem. I currently use an Epson Work Force 500
printer but before that used a HP psc 2175 and never saw this happen.

4. When you open the PRINT QSL LABELS there is a box named MISSING LABELS.
Place the number of missing labels in this box. For example: At the end of
your last print run you only used 6 labels on the last page of your labels.
You would then place the number 6 in the MISSING LABELS box and your next
print run will start printing at label 7. If I have used almost all the
labels on a page on my next print run I will insert the paper in the printer
so the last leftover label now becomes label number 1 (does that make sense?
I know what I mean and hope I am stating it correctly)

5. One thing to remember. I don't know what version of DX4WIN you are using.
I am using ver 8.05 and what I stated above has been true for my previous
versions also BUT with 8.05 I have to change the basic settings in the main
print window each time I open it. Every time I close the print window and
reopen it, it defaults to having the PRINT QSL MANAGER block unchecked and
the PRINT VIA MANAGER, PRINT METHOD, PRINT GROUPS checked. I DO NOT want
to print the method labels so I must uncheck this selection. I DO want to
print the QSL MANAGER labels so I must place a check in this block. On
previous versions DX4WIN would remember these choices and each time I
printed labels I did not have to make any changes. With ver 8.05 I must
reset these basic selections before every print job. I hope this is fixed
with the next version to how it was before.

Just for info, my personal preferences for labels are to go to the CALLSIGN
FONT box and double click on the font. This opens a second window where I
select ARIAL for the font, BOLD, color RED, size 11 for the callsign and OK.
Then I double click on the BODY FONT block and select ARIAL, BOLD, black for
COLOR and 9 for size. I also select the USE LINES option in this window too
so each QSO is in its own line/block. I uncheck the Commercial option since
if I leave it selected I don't have room on the label to print what I want.
Using these settings the callsign (and via the managers call if a manager is
used) is printed in Red along the top and I get 3 lines of QSO's per label
with Pse QSL (or Tnx QSL), My group name (example 2012 ARRL DX), and 73
along the bottom of the label.

One more thing that should be obvious but may not be is BEFORE every print
run I click the PRINT button then select PREVIEW instead of PRINTER. This
shows me exactly how my page of labels will look before I hit printer. You
have to click on the maximize button to open the label page all the way. If
everything looks good then print, otherwise go back and make corrections. A
correction I have to make the most is the address does not fit properly on
the label. I have to go back to the QSL MANAGER window, hit CTL + E, and
adjust the way the address is situated in the address window. Most of the
time one line of the address is too long and I have to shorten it or make it
into two lines. Sometimes a line on the address label will run off onto the
label to the right of it. For example, 4U1ITU's address first line is
INTERNATIONAL AMATEUR RADIO CLUB. That is too long for my label and it will
run off the edge when I print. So I place INTERNATIONAL AMATEUR on the first
line and RADIO CLUB on the second line.

Hope this is helpful.
Hope you have your power back on there.

73, Alan, K7ACZ

Subject: [Dx4win] Printing On Labels Questions

I've just finished printing the labels for all of the N3C cards that
required a response.

In the process, there were some issues that threw me off, but were not show
stoppers.

1. Is there a way to save global parameters: lines, number of QSO's, print
commercial, include groups, etc.? I forgot to set them in one instance and
hadto re-do that page.

2. Is there a way to assign *two* groups to a single QSO?

3. The labels I used (Avery 5160) print in the 10 rows by 3 columns format.
Columns 1 and 3 printed properly, but column two printed much lighter and
without any boldiing. This happened on my HP LJ 1100A and other printers.

4. When finished, I had partially used sheets of labels. Is there any way to
*start* printing

[Dx4win] Printing QSL labels in v 8.05

2011-12-30 Thread Ned Stearns
Hello all,

I have been using an older version of DX4WIN for many years. I mostly
use it to make labels for QSLs for my various DXpeditions. I upgraded
today to version 8.05 since I got a new computer and I am having
difficulty printing labels any more. I believe I am properly marking
each QSO record with the QSL label set to Y but when I print labels,
all I get is one label printed...usually the last one I entered. I am
just not certain what to do. I have read the help a bit and it doesn't
seem to cover my problem.

Anyone out there have some time to help me get this working?

Subject: [Dx4win] Printing QSLs with LaserJet printer

My Dymo label printer recently went on the blink, so I am experimenting with
printing cards directly from my HP LaserJet 2035n printer. I am wondering
if anyone has had any success printing cards with a LaserJet. I am finding
that the printed text is not adhering to the card and tends to flake off. I
have two types of QSL cards -- one glossy finish and the other a more normal
card stock type finish. Both seem to have the same problem. I can print
the QSL on to regular copy paper and the text adheres just fine. So I am
thinking it has something to do with the thickness of the card stock that
does not allow the card to roll through the printer evenly enough to get a
good heat seal on the toner.

I may have to revert to printing out sheets of labels in the LaserJet. BTW,
I have noticed that the labels that I printed from the Dymo Label printer
tend to fade over several years time. Thus, I do not want to go back to the
Dymo printer. I need to find something that printers more permanently. I
was hoping the my LaserJet might do that directly on the card stock. But so
far no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: [Dx4win] Printing QSLs with LaserJet printer

2011-02-27 Thread Dan Violette
Need to change the settings on what type of paper you have when you go to
print in Properties for your printer. Choose the glossy card stock (or
similar). It slows the print speed down so there is more heating time to
compensate for the thicker paper. Rubbing off is a sign the toner was not
fused fully. I can look details up if you need. Same settings if you are
using glossy photo paper.

2011-02-27 Thread Dave Perry
Dan,

Your suggestion did the trick. I selected Heavy Paper Stock and it slowed
the printer down so that the toner fused very nicely to the glossy card
stock. I also want to thank Larry Burke for sending me his application note
on how to setup DX4WIN to print QSL cards on a LaserJet printer. Now I want
to figure out how to print addresses from QRZ.COM directly on to envelopes.
If anyone has a fast and foolproof way to do that, let me know.

Same settings if you are
 using glossy photo paper.

The mode is the last parameter in pronting report.
So probably you have large fonts and this is outside the label.
Try use smaller fonts.
If you double click where the fonts name is written, you can change them

Re: [Dx4win] Printing labels of one group

2010-08-26 Thread J. C. Mc Laughlin
Dear Group: With a couple of helpful suggestions from Jim AD1C, I was
eventually able to print labels just for one Group. It is not a simple
procedure. Here is a copy of what I think eventually worked.

-
Steps needed to effect printing labels for QSOs of one group that has Y in
Label:

1. File | Preferences

Personal tab

Set User Level = Expert

File | Save Changes and Exit

2. Filter | Edit Group Names

cycle Add to get the numbers of all groups that might be of interest to show

OK

3. Filter | Selection

In Current Selection type a name for the group of interest

Add

In Group Name find the number of the group of interest and double-click

Check the Group Filter box

Click Update

OK

4. QSLs | Print QSL Labels

only QSOs in the desired group that have Y in Label will have labels printed

5. Filter | Selection

Select: All QSOs

Re: [Dx4win] Printing labels of one group

2010-08-26 Thread Kostas Stamatis
Also don't forget that you can write %% under lab/rep (filepreferences).
This will print groupname.
If i print labels and not direct on cards I don't make selections at all.
I have written
 @@...73 de %%
under lab/rep
My groups are like 1=sv1dpi, 2=sx2004d 3=sx25dpi, etc.
So dx4win will print something like this
Jim Pse QSL... 73 de SX25DPI
73 and GL Kostas SV1DPI...
and for the next 2 months SX25DPI also... celebrating 25 anniversary of
RAWWG(SZ1A) club.

Create a Selection for the group:

In the QSO window, Filter | Selection

In the box that says Current selection type the name of the group,
or something else you can remember. Then click the Add button.

Scroll down where it says Group name and double-click on the group
 number.

 Click on the Update button

This should filter your log to ONLY QSOs with that group.

When you are done, make sure to set Current selection to All QSOs

The QSL Manager field in the QSO window has to have the same callsign.
 Then it should print.

There should be a better way to do this! Maybe DIRECT should bypass
the QSL manager field check. I think the problem is that the QSL
method is independent of direct/manager the way you and I think of it
(since there is no *manager* QSL method).

Hi, Joe and the fellows...

I have already declared the IT9/K2XX QSOs as a separate group and
imported them into a separate log. Normally when a QSL label is
printed, it starts the label with K2XX confirming QSO with and then
the call of the recipient station is inserted. What I would like to do
is replace K2XX with IT9/K2XX in the preceding phrase. Changing the
greeting menu entries doesn't affect this phrase. Or am I missing
 something?

I think Dx4win only prints the other's callsign, not our callsign. The
only method I know is putting it in the group name. I'd also like the
label said something like EA8NQ confirms QSO with ..

I'm not able to change the call since it's apparently a part of the

Onderwerp: [Dx4win] Printing QSLs with Alternate Call (Different from
 Licensed Call)

I have some DX QSOs that I made with a portable prefix (IT9). I would
like to print my QSLs so that they say IT9/K2XX confirming QSO... I
thought I could merely start a new log with those QSOs imported and then
change the call (K2XX) in the preferences menu to IT9/K2XX. However,
I'm not able to change the call since it's apparently a part of the
license file. Is there another way of getting the alternate call to
 print on the QSLs?

 Thanks and 73,

 Joe

I have recently upgraded to 7.03.16. I have setup label printing to include

had this problem? Any ideas on how to fix?

[Dx4win] Printing Label Directly on QSL Card

2008-12-27 Thread Larry Burke

I am in the process of ordering new QSL cards and I would like to be able to
print the DX4WIN label directly on the card. I found a few references to
this in the archives, but I am having a couple of problems. One is getting
the label to print in the correct spot (which, in my case, is the center
of the card). I suspect it's just a matter of me playing around with things
before I find the right location. The more serious issue is that the ink
from my laser printer (HP P2015d) doesn't seem to want to stick to the QSL
card. I'm using an inexpensive W4MPY stock card for the trials, but have
also used a sample from the QSL Shop. I am wondering if there is a coating
on these cards prohibiting the ink from adhering. The card also creates a
paper jam if it is placed in the printer in an orientation perpendicular to
the envelope feed direction.

I'm interesting in hearing from anyone who has made this work.

RE: [Dx4win] Printing Label Directly on QSL Card

2008-12-27 Thread AC0W
Depends on the finish of the card stock. Those with the glossy or
semi-glossy finish the ink will have a tough time sticking to the finish.
The cards with a flat finish or I think they call it a matte finish I've had
pretty good luck with the ink sticking.

Re: [Dx4win] Printing from the logbook

2008-10-30 Thread F6EXV

Hi
Another option is :
Once you have selected your QSOs, do a print with the right mouse click,
and select preview.
There you can see which page your QSO i on, and, if so you wish, print
only that page(s).

RE: [Dx4win] Printing from the logbook

2008-10-29 Thread John Shaw
Hi Mike,

I think the easiest way to do what you want is to create a filter either
using F8 or making one that suits what you want to do under
Filter/Selection. Then your log window will only show the items you want
according to the filter and you can tell it to print all pages because that
will be what you want.

Hope that helps. 73, John ZL1BYZ.

[Dx4win] Printing SWL Labels

2007-05-03 Thread wo2n
Hi Isrido, Reflector,
Thank You I tried exactly that, and it works exactly like I want.
I added the callsign as part of the reply in 3rd box.
There is room for improving the label process by allowing worked callsign
to be printed, and allow multi labels printed. Takes time to do one at a
time. Lucky I don't have many to do.
73, tnx for your reply
Bernie/WO2N.

Answer #1: You can't. It would be a nice feature to include the worked
 callsign.

#2: Go to File (main window) Preferences Rep/Lab Labels, and
put whatever you want in the 3rd. box.

 Filter - Selection.

Create a DATE filter starting on that certain date, with no end date.

Use that Filter Selection to narrow your log.

 Then print labels.

My Filter- Selection and Filter - Edit Group Names are grayed out.
How do I enable them?

Thanks.
