Bob and others,
Be EXTREMELY careful with some of these menus. Some are no longer used
with the 5000, some intended for SDR-1000 and some settings/tests run
will cause damage either to the radio or at least to the EEPROM data.
In this case the radio will have to be returned for repair..
I just ordered a Flex 5000 and have been reading the posts about the
mic and audio. Are there issues/problems with the audio or is this
just talk about improving perfection? Just curious.

If you read the QST review this month, it says the SSB transmit audio
is simply amazing the best they have ever heard.
Also, John Basilotto, the COO and marketing motivator, as a bit of a

Jon,
You put it very well, trying to improve perfection ;o) Different strokes

ISTM that it depends on the mic. one uses. If the mic. rolls off at
Hello Army,
Does the Heil Pro Headset place emphasis on certain frequencies or in other
words not have a flat frequency response?
Perhaps that is the key to no equalization in the first place? If so are there
any other mikes out there that give similar results?
Unfortunately I can't use

In the excellent QST review, they mention that we Flex'ers usually
keep 3 versions of PowerSDR hanging around for usage: the last formal
release (1.10.4 in this case), our favorite version of the SVN updates
and the latest SVN available.

Hello Edwin,
The Heil Proset Plus has both the HC4, and the HC5 microphone elements
which can be selected via a small side switch.
I've found that the HC5 sounds great without any EQ at all, and Heil
sells the HC5 in quite a few microphones, among them the HM5, available

OK, you asked. See my replies below.

Yep
I keep at least 3 variants of PWSDR
as you noted the 'official release 1.10.4'
and then W2RF's version, and also Bob Tracy's svn
I also run the 'test' svn when some of Ed's or Bob's new features are 'merged'
to make sure I have them set up correctly
so that I can test various items for each.
Alan,
I use a Heil Pro Set Plus HC4 element and the DX/Contest EQ setting on the
console. Stateside stations have told me it sounds great for DX with good
punch. And it works. I got Randy V73RY in the Marshall Islands on 20 SSB
during his last hour of operation before he left for the mainland.
Edwin,
The Heil ProSet Plus headset (which I have) has both the HC-4 (DX) HC-5
(Full-Range) elements. You can switch between them. The Heil ProSet comes
with your choice of elements. BOTH the HC 4 the HC-5 elements have some
pre-emphasis in the 2-3 kHz range. In the HC-4, the pre-emphasis

Does anyone use the officially released version as their main version?
It almost sounds like people are using it more as a benchmark for
diagnosing an issue than as their main version.
