Re: [HCDX] Observations on Oman, Paul Walker

2017-09-27 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
If I report a Station as NEW that’s bexause to the best of my memory, it’s
new to MY log book.

I am by no means emulating or copying another DXer on purpose. I observe
the way I observe and write the way I write

And obviously my daily observations about Oman really aren’t appreciated,
which I can really understand why they aren’t, so I probably stop doing
them soon.

Re: [HCDX] Observations on Oman, Paul Walker

2017-09-27 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
And and on the subject of contact Stations that interfere with one I
like... what’s wrong with that? I find something I enjoy, and other
stations and harming the Reception so I make an effort to have it
rectified when I don’t think said Reception of Oman 15140 should be
harmed. So what? It didn’t take me but an hour or so to contact the
authorities in Cuba and India and right the emails.

DXers may not be a Stations target area but if we don’t say something, we
never know what the outcome could be.

We should never just accept interference just because we are “DX’ers” so I
am attempting to do something about it

I would suggest/reccomend a Friday night into Saturday morning. There are
those of us who go to church or use Sunday for relaxing cleaning up the

How about Friday the 14th going into Saturday the 15th of December?

 1520 KOKC is on
 1000 KTOK is on
 640 KWPN is OFF

Most FM and some AM stations simulcasting one TV station or another
 including 1520, 1000, and:

 1140 KRMP
 1340 KGHM

Regular programming now (if not earlier):
 800 KQCV
 890 KTLR
 930 WKY

Did not check all the FMs for absences, not too familiar with transmitter
sites, but 92.5 KOMA and 107.7 KRXO are on.

All this is some 80 miles from where I am

The 760 Watt signal of KIHH 1400 Eureka, CA from 2500 miles away.
Stunningly strong and clear for what and where it is.

[HCDX] AM DX from Alaska January 27th

2017-01-27 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
It's been average at best lately, for awhile.. The low end of the band,
below about 730-ish has been nearly dead and real quiet.

Here's my favorite, "Eagle 810", with 50,000 Watts from Tokyo. I catch them
at the end of a spot break, followed by a station liner and into pop music.
Audio here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0i20v1Cl6Rc

873 Pyongyang was in fairly well today at 1847UTC with it's usual music.
Audio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFe8bfxWOxU

Here's KBS2 1170 with man and woman talking. Hear that guy undernearth
them? That's Dr. DAvid Jeremiah from the 50,000 watts of KJNP 1170, 300
miles away. Usually, more often they blast in with no sign of KBS.
Sometimes the two compete for the rights to 1170khz and not often, but
sometimes KBS full takes over. One morning, I had KBS2 1170 in the clear,
with no KJNP and a half hour later, KBS2 was gone and KJNP Was in the
clear. Audio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFTD71VVhDU

1242 JOLF was nearly perfect, heard with "All Night Nippon" jingle back
into talk programming from the show. Audio:

1566 HLAZ was loud, clear, steady and stable with man preaching in Russian
at 1844UTC.

[HCDX] AM DX Report from Alaska

2017-01-25 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Well, it was certainly.. interesting. I've been kept inside by -40F to -50F
temperatures for 2 weeks straight here in Galena, Alaska. But that's not
cold, compared to Allakaket, Alaska which had -72 below.

I had Absolute Radio twice today! When I hear it, it's almost always at
night. Well, I had it in the morning.

This is Absolute Radio 1215khz from 1916UTC January 25th:
https://youtu.be/FgSgxPJSQ1o

Here's how Absolute Radio 1215khz sounded at 0338UTC January 26th:
https://youtu.be/4qcIW7PJSuk

I have NO idea who this very loud yet weak spanish station on 1700khz is
that was recorded at 0323UTC January 26th:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ck5Ro458mow

KKLF Richardson/Dallas, TX is Tejano, I guess this could be them!

Here's KUIK 1360 Hillsboro/Portland, Oregon at 0339UTC January 26th coming
out of a commercial break back into a syndicated talk program. It's very
weak but at one second, you hear KUIK and a few seconds later "Westside

This is KITI 1420 Centralia, WA with oldies music and weather forecast by

commercial break and specific mention of "910cfcw.com" . Recorded at
0328UTC on January 26. Audio:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UALU-RXE0T0=3s

Now, here's one that was initially a mystery and very odd! 1050khz,
recorded at 0359UTC January 26th. Sounded like country music. Top of hour
came and no hard fade of the song for an ID and news of any kind. About
0402, the next song rolls with again, no id, liner or anything. I have the

[HCDX] VOK vs VOV & RHC vs Radio Thailand

2017-02-24 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
A friend and i were discussing DXing the other day and seeing a post on
facebook made me think of something.

Radio Havana Cuba's 13740khz frequency around 2300-0100 UTC in spanish to
South America is so strong and WIDE here in Alaska sometimes, that it
interferes with Radio Thailand's 13745 english broadcast to North America
at UTC.. and Radio Thailand is so strong here itself its like a
regular local am broadcast station...that should tell you how
strong and wide
Cuba on 13740khz is!

Pyongyang's Voice of Korea on 12015khz to Europe is so strong and wide it
completely obliterates the Voice of Vietnam's 12019khz broadcast from Hanoi
to Indonesia/Far East

I am in Galena, Alaska.. about 300 miles west of Fairbanks, 350 miles
Northwest of Anchorage and 300 miles east slightly southeast of Nome

[HCDX] Radio Thailand 13745kHz & Voice of Vietnam 7135kHz

2017-01-16 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
These are two of my favorite Shortwave stations/programs. I enjoy cultural
stuff, wether I listen passively or attentively. Plus, I can hear either
one pretty much anytime I tune in.

Conditions have to be beyond horrible, the worst all year for me to NOT be
able to hear Radio Thailand's 13745 khz broadcast to North America at
UTC. When conditions are good, the 13745 signal is rock solid and when
they are excellent, 13745 is like a traditional local AM signal would be.

I can even hear Radio Thailand's 9390khz 1900UTC broadcast to Europe, but
it takes pretty good conditions for that to be listenable. I sometimes
wonder if, when conditions are bad, am I the only one listening/able to
hear 13745??!!

*Voice of Vietnam 7315khz*
This is their full half hour 0100UTC Broadcast in english on January 15th
via Cypress Creek, South Carolina.

The broadcast starts with the interval tune and a review of the upcoming
program, including a special report and talk of the weekend music session
show. News headlines are read by a female then a man reads the news in
detail and he later reads Vietnamese major news developments.

At about 0122, a segment starts up with the female announcer talking about
Vietnamese songs that are about the Vietnam country side.

SINPO Rating: 45344. Overall, pretty darn good with just a bit of
atmospheric noise and light fading. The speech was a little hard to hear
over the noise and fading.Music really punches through and is very clear.

Here's the full 28 minute broadcastfrom the date and time noted above:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V81V9-rI5jM

*Radio Thailand 13745khz*
This is the UTC January 14th broadcast in English to North America.

The male voice introduces the service then the station song/interval tune
plays. A voice introduces the news, a quick sponsor mention then the
anchors introduce themselves and begin reading the news.

News stories include His Majesty The King Concerned with those suffering
from flood conditions, a story from Chinese State Media about the
government being blocked form certain islands (I think that was the story?).

Bangkok Airlines ad then plays, they are a regular sponsor. Time check of
7:02AM then given and National news headlines are read., There's a story on
Joint Command Center for Peace and Order Around The Grand Palace removing
cooking tents after the 100th day of His Majesty's passing.

Global news starts at just before 0013UTC with headlines including Chinese
State Media warning that blocking it from islands it has built in contested
waters would lead to a devastating confrontation.

Other global news headlines included Indonesian police have released 8 men
who were deported from Singapore for possessing Islamic State material.
>From UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has returned to South Korea and
hinted he would possibly run for President.

Several promos and mentions during the events about things going on in
Thailand.

I enjoy hearing world news from a different point of view.

Just after 0057UTC, the anchors come back on to close out the broadcast and
invite folks to tune in again and listen for hourly updates.

An announcement then plays voiced by a male talking about 10 islands
nations working together for trade and economic reasons, the SE Asia
region.

There's a bit of dead air before what sounds like a traditional Thai song
plays. The carrier drops at 00:59:30UTC and is off for about 30 seconds
before coming back for the Thai language service.

I love the Bells and music that play leading into the Thai language
service. However, a vocieover incorrectly identifies the service as being
the english language service.

SINPO Rating: 55455. Only the ever slighest bit of fading and noise at
times, but hardly there.

Here's the full hour long english broadcast:

[HCDX] Voice of Korea Shortwave Signals

2016-09-05 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I've logged 29 different VoK/KCBS frequencies here in the rural central
interior of Alaska.

A few months ago I was wondering why some of their signals to me were so
strong even though I am not in their target area whatsoever.

Well, someone figured and subsequently came up with a map showing that
depending on what part of the USA that VoK is targeting, not only is the
shortest path to the lower 48 go through Alaska, that path is right through
the village I live in.

How interesting!

[HCDX] Voice of Mongolia 12035kHz

2016-09-05 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Lately, I've been hearing their 0900UTC broadcast in English fairly well at
times, poor conditions can wreak havoc for this signal with me. They pretty
much beam straight south from Mongolia (178 degrees) and according to one
site, I am definately out of the beam and long path of this signal so I am
not sure how I am hearing it.

I tuned in at 1000UTC on August 28thand heard their Chinese broadcast
beamed at 116 degrees to South Korea and Japan.

The signal was pretty good, not much noise or interference at all and just
a bit of fading while some Chinese music was heard playing.

An audio recording is here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PPQJTadmZE

Equipment used includes a Tecsun PL880, 225 foot long wire oriented east
west picking up from the north and south and EmTech ZM2 Antenna Tuner in
Galena, Alaska, USA (Rural central interior, 300 miles east of Nome, 300
miles west of Fairbanks)

[HCDX] My First TP AM DX Catch

2016-09-05 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I am in Galena, Alaska in the central part of the state halfway between
Nome & Fairbanks.

About a week ago, I was tuning the AM Band in my Grundig Sattelit 750 with
external AM antenna jack connected to a 225 foot long wire.

I was tuned to 1017kHz and had serious spillage from KVNT 1020 Anchorage,
10kw from 300 miles away BUT there was distinct speech buried under that.

I sent a 60 second clip to the CEO and to the Chief Engineer at Tonga's
government owned A3Z to see if they could recognize anything as definately
being their station.

I certainly heard some South Pacific type music before my speech only
recording, but the voices sounded like they could've been CRI in some Asian
language.

We'll see!

A reminder that this broadcast is coming up next weekend. I am suspending
the request for $$ to cover postage or qsl costs as I've been so negligent

[HCDX] Looking for........

2016-09-05 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I am in search of a Lowe HF150E/South Midlands Communications HF150E to
buy. If it's a little dinged up or scratched on the case, I don't care as
long as it's intact and works as designed without defects.

They are no longer made and I know most who have them don't want to give
them up, but the people I know who have them don't want to let them go.

If you have one for sale at a reasonable price, please email me privately:

[HCDX] Radio Guinea 9650kHz

2016-09-05 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I'm really beginning think my April 16th, 2016 0344UTC (April 15th 744pm
AKDT) reception of Radio Guinea 9650kHz was a fluke here in Alaska.

The signal at that time was pretty darn good for what it was and about as
good as anything I've heard from other DX'ers since their 2nd reactivation
a week or two ago. A nearly 8 minute recording of my reception of Radio
Guinea 9650kHz is at the bottom of this post.

Here's the thing, since they came back this second time, I haven't heard a
PEEP!! And it's not due to same/adjacent channel stations, I've gone out at
various times when Radio Guinea would've been the only thing on the channel
with no slop from anyone else on 9645/9650/9655.

A friend and I have reasoned that the April 15th/16th re-appearance of
Radio Guinea 9650kHz was a test after decades of silence.. They turned
things on to see if everything still worked good and was within spec.

Well, after a day of operations, they figured things weren't working like
it should, turned it off and being a poor 3rd world country, it took them a
few months to fix it.

We found their tower site, a line of 6 towers in a reversed arc letter "C"
right in Conarky. If those towers line up is any indication of their beam,
going Southeast... then that would explain why folks in the SE and East
Central USA are hearing it so well, off the back lobe.

Again, this is all theory.. but I'd like to think, at least somewhat right..

[HCDX] SIBC 5020/9545 Transmitter Issues

2016-09-05 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
>From Engineer Nilorier Tavo, "We are having problem with our SW
transmitters but work is still in progress to fix it."

I assume they are probably at lower then their "licensed" 10,000 watts, as
evidenced by WRMI 5015 and Radio Rebelde 5025 beating them to a pulp here
in Alaska the other day.

I wonder what the problem is, their transmitters is nearly brand new.. it's
a 2 year old Hitachi, from Japan. They have one transmitter, and it can
only do one frequency at a time, so both 5020 and 9545 are affected, I
assume.

[HCDX] SIBC 5020 & Radio Vanuatu 7260

2016-09-05 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Around 0945-1000UTC Sunday August 28thg, I tried tuning into SIBC 5020 with
my Tecsun PL880, 225 foot long wire, EmTech ZM2 Antenna Tuner and
DXEngneering RPA-1PLUS HF Preamp.

Setting the audio at 2.3khz and I could barely here them.. signal was ok,
modulation was a bit low. Setting audio to 3.5khz or more resulted in SIBC
being splattered into oblivion by WRMI 5015 and Radio Rebelde 5025

Radio Vanuatu was woefully undermodulated as well. If they ran 110 percent
modulation, they would have a fairly decent signal here. Tonight, I also
had some digital RTTY sounding noise most of the night too, which made
Radio Vanuatu even a bit more unpleasant then usual to listen to.,

[HCDX] QSL cards received

2016-09-05 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
All heard in rural central Alaska (300 miles west of Fairbanks) with a
Tecsun PL880, 225 foot long wire and EmTech ZM2 antenna tuner

Deutsche Welle QSL cards, programming schedules and tote bag received for
June 31 and August 2 1700-1800UTC reception reports with audio recordings
of 15275kHz and 17740kHz via Issoudun, France To Africa.

15275 audio here:

17740 audio here:
https://youtu.be/4fdirw8RxKs

A QSL Card, sticker and program scheduled received from DZRP Radyo
Pilipinas for a May 21, 2016 reception report

However, the QSL card is for the wrong frequency, referencing a report I
sent them from a year ago. I heard 9910kHz and 1210kHz here in Alaska, not
15190kHz. The date and times are right though.

Audio of what I heard on 9901khz is here:

An audio recording of what I heard on 12120khz is here:

2 Radio Romania QSL cards and a station leaflet of info for reception
reports to the French Service on 11900kHz and 11950kHz

Here's one piece of audio, 11950khz:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgCEpNGlJ2k

2 Radio Taiwan International QSL cards, a coaster and a small pennant and a
program schedule for May 22nd, 2016 11600kHz (English, beamed to Indoesia)
and June 25, 2016 7445kHz (English, beamed to Southeast Asia) reception
reports

7445kHz audio here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0wSucGQrfQ

11600kHz audio here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg6oBTu8Blw

I got two QSL cards from the English Department at The Voice of Iran.

They came one day apart and were for the same exact broadcast logging. One
card had just the date, another card had the date and time but no frequency!

August 29, 2016 at 0230UTC in Galena, Alaska, USA (Rural central interior,
300 miles east of Nome, 300 miles west of Fairbanks)

A SINPO rating of 4. The signal was very strong and there was no
interference but a moderate amount of fading was present. Overall, the
broadcast was GOOD and fairly listenable.

My recording starts with the interval signal/intro tune and announcers
introducing the station but saying "This is The Voice of Vietnam,
broadcasting form Hanoi, the capital of the socialist republic of Vietnam".
Then a female announcer comes on gives brief headlines and preview of the
show then starts in with the news headlines.

Hmm, a certain Australian DXer ran with unconfirmed reports that the

need to wait for official word before saying anything.

[HCDX] TIP Voice of Vietnam 7315khz

2016-09-08 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
VoV themselves list their broadcast in english via WHRI Cypress Creek, SC
on 7315khz at 0100 and 0230

I just heard it at 0117UTC on 7315. That broadcast is listed in Eibi
correctly, VOV in English on 7315khz from 0100 to 0130

Just a tip if you're looking out for them

[HCDX] Radio Taiwan International English

2016-09-13 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I have logged a few of Radio Taiwan International's English language
broadcasts here in rural central Alaska a few times, sometimes better then
others.

On Wednesday September 7th at 1547UTC, I logged the English broadcast on
11685khz. I would give this reception a SINPO Rating of 22232. The signal
was poor with lots of static, fading and noise plus if you listen closely,
you'll clearly hear interference from another radio station on the same or
nearby channels.

I made a 4 1/2 minute recording. At about 6 seconds in, you very clearly
hear a male say "Radio Taiwan International". What follows sounds like a
language learning segment, english and mandarin or other asian language.

That 4 1/2 mintue recording is here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbAYz6O7JNc

On May 22nd, 2016 at 1123UTC, I heard an English broadcast from RTI as well
on 11600khz. The audio quality was not that great, it sounded like a
serious echo was going on. It appears to be some kind of interview program
between a man and a female RTI presenter. The signal overall was on the
lower side of good.

Here is a recording:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg6oBTu8Blw

On September 8th at 0356UTC, I logged the 15320khz english broadcast. I
would give it a SINPO rating of 12112.There is ALOT of static/atmospheric
noise on the channel and the signal is very weak. I recorded 5 minutes
worth and took the 3 best segments of the reception and put them together.

In the first part of this one clip which is 11 seconds, a male gives out a
frequency and time schedule. In the second part of this clip which is 9
seconds, the same man gives out what I assume is the PO Box mailing address
for RTI. In the 3rd and final part of this clip, that same man says simply
"Radio Taiwan International"

I warn you, the reception is really rough and If I didn't know what to look
for, this would be impossible to have nailed down. Here's the link to the
audio:

https://app.box.com/s/kkcoe959r5iphbjvvnjoz2n0qxslhevz

On June 25th, 2016 at 1112UITC, I heard an English broadcast on 7445khz.
The signal was about an 8 out of 10 overall. There was only light fading
with no interference from other stations and nearly no atmospheric
noise/interference.

My recording starts with what sounds like a native English speaker talking
about the origin of boat races.

A 7 minute recording of my reception can be hear here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0wSucGQrfQ

This reception above is slightly above normal/average, but not by too much.

One RTI staffer was a bit surprised I heard the 7445khz signal so well.

Tecsun PL880, EmTech ZM2 Antenna tuner, DXEngineering HF PreAmp and 225
foot long wire.

[HCDX] TIP: Voice Of Turkey

2016-09-23 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I have noticed something recently that hasn't always been the case and I
don't think anyone has caught onto.

I've heard The Voice Of Turkey in English on about 4 or 5 frequencies from
here in Alaska and have noticed they SIGN OFF EARLY!

Say for instance, their 15520khz 1630-1730UTC broadcast, I can't say for
sure, But I'm pretty sure I heard it sign off at 1715UTC or so.

I have most certainly caught their 9380khz 2200 to 2300UTC broadcast
signing off at about 2245UTC or so.

It would appear VOT's broadcasts are signing off about 15 minutes earlier
then listed on Eibi/Shortwave.am website, and etc

[HCDX] New AM Log!

2016-09-29 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Well, I can't believe I didn't post this back when it happened. Ir's
probably nothing super fantastic, but i'm always pleased with a new station
in the log book

I am in Galena, Alaska. We are a village of 500 people in the central part
of the state, 300 miles west of Fairbanks and 300 miles east of Nome. Or as
I lovingly call this place, Rural East Jesus Nowheresville aka East Russia:)

I use a Grundig Sattelit 750 radio connected to a 225 foot long wire
antenna.

I'd been hearing oldies on 1440 whenever I scanned past, I always thought
that was KODL The Dalles, Oregon but I never stayed long enough through the
WEAK signal to hear any ID's. I also hear KMED Medofrd, OR with it's news
talk format regularly.

Well, on Sunday September 11 at 1:44AM AKDT (0944UTC), which is 2:44AM
Pacific and 3:44AM Mountain, I heard "Hang On Sloopy". The signal was
actually pretty good, wherein I could actually listen to, understand &
enjoy the song.

Here is a short 60 seconds or so of a recording of what I am certain is
W1440 CKJR Wetaskawin, Akberta,

https://app.box.com/s/0e8fxn44ladb40lwkhqmk1h4pu3i9kd0

There was another station behind W1440 CKJR's music, which I expect to be
the 5000 watt AM news talk station on 1440, KMED Medford, Oregon.

I suspect what I was hearing on 1440 playing oldies for several days is in
fact W1440 CKJR and not some other station like KODL, but the signal in the
past was so poor that I could manage to listen for long and I never was
able to get a clear station identifier.

[HCDX] Radio Guinea 9650kHz

2016-09-15 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Radio Guinea 9650kHz at 0714UTC on September 15th with upbeat local music.
Fair amount of fading/atmospheric noise. The signal meter in my radio
suggested a better signal that I had, possibly because of low-ish
modulation. SINPO 3334e3

Re: [HCDX] Kairo USA & Poor Shipping/Customer Service Policies

2016-09-20 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
As a further update...

The Kaito USA ebay sales man Jason under the multimeter_depot user name
replied to me again saying "We only ship to the 48 states"

That is pretty low class and shoddy business practices. USPS Priority Mail
in a flat rate box costs no more to Alaska, then it does to say, Kentucky
or Maine.

Funny, I can go to Kaito's own website order the same radio and have it
shipped via USPS Priority Mail to Alaska.

I know multimeter_depot is the ebay side of Kaito USA based upon the
receipt I got from paypal, showing me where my money went.

The owner of Kaito USA and I traded a few emails and desptie me telling him
twice I'd placed the order anyways, he asked, "So, did you yet place the
order with us or not?"

I've let everyone i know on multiple websites, email lists and facebook
groups of Kaito's poor decision and custom service.. also making it
impossible for alaskans to call your toll free number I can assure you many
of us will be buying form Anon CO in china in the future when we need
Tecsun Radios.

I don't wanna be mean, but I will gladly take my money where it's wanted
and easily acceptable.\

And guess what? The tecsun just shipped out, to my friend in Herndon VA!
(I had it shipped to a friend in the lower 48 who will then ship it to me!)

[HCDX] Radio Rossii Reception

2016-09-15 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Clip #1: Radio Rossii on shortwave with a man in russian talking about
something, unfortunately, not understanding the language, I can't tell you
what he's saying to the presenter. I give this a SINPO rating of 34343.
Overall, reception was around the mid point of Fair.. not good, but not bad.

Recorded at 1038UTC on September 11th, 2016 in Galena, Alaska (rural
central Alaska) using a 225 foot long wire oriented to provided east/west
pick up directions along with a Tecsun PL880, DX Engineering HF PreAmp and
EmTech ZM2 Antenna Tuner.

Audio recording is here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdW2RHAVC6k

Clip #2: Enjoying some Russian music on Shortwave! I would give this a
SINPO rating of 44344. I rate this overall as good because of the strong
signal and overall high listenability signal/audio quality wise. If it
weren't for the slight fading and noise, this would be nearly a 5.

Recorded on September 11, 2016 at 0951UTC in Galena, Alaska (rural central
Alaska) using a Tecsun PL880. a 225 foot long wire with a east west signal
pick up pattern, an EmTech ZM2 Antenna Tuner and a DXEngineering HF PreAmp.

Audio is here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XcsJEAgDuc

Cliop #3: This sounded like some art/classical music type broadcast with a
woman talking for several minutes before a man came on and what sounded
like a classical music song played. I give this a SINPO rating of 44344.
There was a fair/moderate amount of fading and noise but it was overall
very listenable.

Recorded on September 10th, 2016 at 0946UTC in Galena, Alaska (rural
central Interior) using a Tecsun PL880, 225 foot long wire providing
east/west signal pick up patterns, a DXEngineering HF PreAmp and EmTech ZM2
Antenna tuner.

Audio is here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aXCB9HXXQs

Clip #4: This is what sounds like a news or feature interview segment with
more then one man talking in Russian.

I would give this a SINPO rating of 44343. This signal was on the lower
side of good but the overall quality was the higher side of fair due to the
fading, noise and slightly low modulation.

Recorded on September 10th, 2016 at 1000UTC in Galena, Alaska (rural
central Interior) using a Tecsun PL880, 225 foot long wire providing

[HCDX] Voice Of Mongolia 12015/12035khz

2016-09-18 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Has anyone else here logged The Voice of Mongolia on 12015khz or 12035khz
and actually gotten the promised QSL card?

I have logged 12035khz from here in Alaska half a dozen or more times, and
have had each of my reception reports since late June read on the air,
promising a QSL card will be sent.

It's been about 3 months and I have yet to get anything. Mail from other
stations in that part of the world usually get to me in 2-4 weeks.

Yeah, I know.. I'm kinda like the pot calling the kettle black in that I
owe alot of people QSL cards for my shortwave rock n roll broadcasts. I
will get to them, eventually.. I promise.

[HCDX] Two of my favorite SW station loggings

2016-09-18 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
All loggings made in Galena, Alaska which is the rural central part of the
state between Nome & Fairbanks)

Voice of Mongolia 12035kHz, 250KW to Asia (178 degree azimuth beam)

I heard this on August 1, 2016 from 0859UTC to 930UTC but only recorded
about 14 minutes of it. I used a Tecsun PL880 and Wellbrook ALA1530LNP to
pick this up. The directional/nulling capabilities and noise reduction
properties of the loop beat my 225 foot long wire on this.

Audio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqTox0j8P3k

Voice of Vietnam 12019kHz (to the far east, no beam or azimuth data listed
on shortwave.am)

I tuned into the english broadcast on 12019khz between 1150 and 1200UTC.
In the first instance, I heard a beautiful Vietnamese song play before a
female announcer came on to talk about culture and society in Vietnam. She
then played a short clip of a man talking about some kind of wood carving.

This clip was recorded at 1151UTC to 1153UTC using a Tecsun PL880 radio,
225 foot long wire with a signal pick up pattern facing east and west.
Other equipment used includes an EmTech ZM2 Antenna tuner and DX
Enigneering HF PreAmp. I would give a SINPO rating of 34345. I give the
overall rating a 5 because if it wasn't for the moderate amount of fading
and noise this would've been a beautifully listenable signal.

Audio here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY2OdTG-IlY

My second recording on September 11th is from 1155UTC. The recording is of
the Voice of Vietnam female announcer on 12019kHz giving out the Voice of
Vietnam English Services contact information followed by a Vietnamese song
playing.

I would give this second recording a SINPO rating of 43233. The rating
changes a little bit because despite the signal in this second recording
being a bit stronger, there is a bit more fading present. My 225 foot long
wire antenna this time was oriented to provide a north & south pick up
pattern.

Audio here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY2OdTG-IlY

Voice of Vietnam 7315kHz via WHRI Cypress Creek, SC (250kw to the
Carribean, 152 degree beam azimuth)

On September 8 I tuned into the Voice of Vietnam broadcast on 7315khz from
0120 to 0130UTC. The female announcer was talking about some Vietnamese
cultural festival that attracts alot of visitors, saying it is a must see
place to visit. After the segment was of, a Vietnamese song played.

I would give this broadcast a SINPO rating of 3. If there had been a
bit less noise and fading, this probably would've been a fairly easy signal
to listen to and understand.

A recording of the 7135khz from 0123 to 0128 UTC September 8th broadcast is
here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lak8vKa2gY

Voice of Vietnam 7280khz, 100kw to Europe, 320 degree azimuth beam

I heard the 7280khz english broadcast from 1622 to 1630UTC on September
6th. One song played for several minutes, a female announcer came on saying
it was someones very first song and then a Vietnamese song played after
the announcer said goodbye and ended the show. I would give this a SINPO
rating of 32333.

I gave it that rating because the atmospheric noise combined with what
sounded like interference from another radio station made this a somewhat
hard broadcast to understand/listen to/get exact details from. My 225 foot
long wire antenna was oriented to pick up with an east & west pick up
pattern this time.

Here is my 7280khz/1622 to 1630UTC September 6th recording:

[HCDX] Radio Guinea 9650khz & Zanzibar 11735khz

2016-09-16 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I'd love to know that the beam/azimuth of Zanzibar Broadcasting's 11735khz
signal is. It's listed as 50kw non directional, but solely based upon the
signal I get from it everyday here in Alaska., there's no way it's non
directional.

BUT, a google map trip was taken and the ZBC site found, showing what is
clearly a directional antenna set up.

Also, I'd love to know what the power and beam/azimuth for Radio Guinea
9650khz in Conarky, Guinea is. A friend and I located on googlemaps what we
re pretty sure is their shortwave transmitting site, right in Conarky! The
site looks like 6 towers in an arched backwards C configuration

ZBC's 11735 power is listed but the beam isn't correct. I haven't seen
Radio Guinea's power/pattern/beam details anywhere.

Any ideas? I have my theories on Radio Conarky based on the signal I'm
hearing but I don't want to taint anyone elses ideas.

[HCDX] Kairo USA & Poor Shipping/Customer Service Policies

2016-09-19 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Apparently, the fine folks at Kaito USA think Alaska is a US protectorate
and not one of the 50 US states, therefore ebay orders from them
(multimeter_depot or Montclair, CA) wont ship to Alaska or Hawaii...

But guess what? Ordering off their website kaitousa.com results in you
being able to ship to Alaska via priority mail.. which costs no more in a
flat rate box then to somewhere in the lower 48!

So, I sent a message to the ebay account of yours and asked why your
company doesnt ship ebay sales to alaska and hawaii. Jason replied with

"Sorry, we had many problems with US protectorates order, so we decided to
ship to 48 states only.."

And then when I try and call Kaito USA's Toll free number, it says the toll
free number I've called can't be dialed from my area.

Kaito USA must really not want any business from Alaska or Hawaii. Well
guess what? I'll buy my next Tecsun PL880 from Anon-Co in China I guess!

I've bought 2 PL880's in the last month. I';ll gladly put my money
somewhere that my business is wanted

[HCDX] Voice Of Korea 2mHz & 3mHz Signals

2016-09-23 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Here's a short video of The Voice Of Korea's 2850kHz, 3250kHz and 3320kHz
recorded at 1557UTC on Friday September 23, 2016 in Alaska.

2850kHz and 3320kHz are 50kw. 3250 is listed as 5kw. The signals in the
video below are pretty strong but not as strong as they can be for me. They
are nearly non existent in spring and summer but common and strong in
winter here.

Equipment used: Tecsun PL880, 225 foot long wire oriented to provide north
south signal pick up patterns, a DX Engineering HF preamp and an EmTech ZM2
Antenna Tuner.

5040kHz, All India Radio Jaypore from 1641UTC to 1645UTC on September 22nd
in the Oriya language with some singing and/or chanting. I would give this
broadcast a SINPO Rating of 33343. The signal was overall on the higher
side of fair but there ewas some static and noise with a light to moderate
amount of fading and some digital data/pulsing kind of noise. Audio here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvtOZFbYMxo (Walker-AK)

7295kHz & 7345kHz, Radio Sahka via Yauktsk 1020UTC to 1030UTC on September
11 in Russian. What sounds like contemporary russian music is being played.
7295 is a bit louder and stronger for me, sometimes by a fairly noticeable
margin most days but this time, the difference is hugely noticeable between
the two signals. I would give these broadcasts a SINPO rating of 45455 I am
rating this good as there was almost no atmospheric noise and very little
fading! 7295kHz audio here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g24DkJgv0qc
7345kHz audio here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ia4N62KB2gM (Walker-AK

7315kHz, The Voice of Vietnam via Cypress Creek, South Carolina from 0100
to 0115UTC on September 22. The program begins with the incredibly
recognizable and lovely VOV interval tune/intro signal. A female announcer
gives a quick preview of the show and headlines then a news report
begins.with a male. I would give this broadcast a SINPO of 34233. The
signal was pretty fair, listenable but with lots of atmospheric
noise/fading/static, but thankfully no interference. Audio here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_PH8MraW7A. VOV also heard at 1624UTC on
7220kHz via Hanoi with a traditional Vietnamese song and a SINPO rating of
33232. The signal itself was ok but there was alot of noise, fading and at
times, interference which resulted in my overall poor rating. The signal

interference which resulted in my overall poor rating.Audio here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9Kf2AYVeDA . 1209khz via Hanoi at 1130UTC

bad overall. Audio here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIFVztEl1yM .
12005kHz VOV heard via Woofferton on August 29 at 0230UTC with good signal.

9445kHz, All India Radio General Overseas Service from 1826 to 1830UTC on
August 27th in English. Indian music followed by a sports program, co
produced by AIR, BBC and Radio Australia.I would give this broadcast a
SINPO rating of 45454. THe signal was pretty darn good and audio was good
too. Only a slight bit of fading and ever so slight noise. Audio here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ka9mc7c_F8 (Walker-AK)

9650kHz, Radio Guinea via Conarky from 2357UTC to 0035UTC in French. Lively
Afro-pop type music nd announcers talking in french. I would give this a
SINPO Rating of 35333. The broadcast was moderately fair, the unique music
made this broadcast a bit easier to pick out of the noise but it was
moderately listenable. Audio here: https://www.youtube.com/
watch?v=-lmG9ms3ucU (Walker-AK)

9870kHz, All India Radio Vividh Bharati Service from 1728UTC to 1741UTC on
August 27th. Stellarly awesome signal with some lovely indian music and
female announcer. I would give this a SINPO Rating of ! Audio here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyJAJmwoE8I (Walker-AK)

9895kHz, Radio Rossi via (???) from 0951UTC to 1002UTC on September
11. Enjoying
some Russian music on Shortwave! I would give this a SINPO rating of
44344. I rate this overall as good because of the strong signal and overall
high listenability signal/audio quality wise. If it weren't for the slight
fading and noise, this would be nearly a 5. Audio here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XcsJEAgDuc 5900kHz heard a day
earlier with what
sounds like a news or feature interview segment with more then one man
talking in Russian at 1000UTC. Audio here: https://www.youtube.com/
watch?v=WWEgjpT1vwU (Walker-AK)

I would give this a SINPO rating of 44343. This signal was on the lower
side of good but the overall quality was the higher side of fair due to the
fading, noise and slightly low modulation.

11735kHz, Zanzibar Broadcasting Corporation via Dole, Zanzibar from 2049UTC
to 2059UTC on September 5th. Some music playing, maybe middle eastern-like?
somewhat lively tunes. A male announcer speaking, possibly in Swahili This
is far from the best I log ZBC with,

[HCDX] Conditions 1800UTC 10/22/16

2016-10-22 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
They seemed to be way better then average and certainly exceptional,
consider the last several weeks of a crud fest we've had

I am in rural central Alaska and had KBS World Radio on 7275khz via Kimjae,
South Korea to Europe nearly rock solid.

The Voice of vietnam signals in English to Europe via Hanoi seem to be
better then usual today too.

What is kind of weak that is usually strong is AIR's Vivdh Bharati Service
on 9870khz

[HCDX] Voice Of Korea & How Strong It Is Here!!

2016-10-18 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
The English service broadcast to "Latin America" from Kujang, North Korea.
  Recorded 0430-0530UTC October 17, 2016 using a Tecsun PL880, Welbrook
ALA1530LNP, EmTech ZM2 antenna tuner and DXEngineering HF Preamp.

Listening location is Galena, Alaska. A village of 500 people in the rural
central interior, 300 miles east of Nome and 300 miles west of Fairbanks

I would give this a SINPO Rating of 6

Here is an image taken of the front of the Tecsun PL880 while listening to
this broadcast, showing just how strong the signal is... I was a bit
surprised, never seen something this high before, especially on shortwave!
http://i67.tinypic.com/2hfnmle.jpg

Here's the entire hour of the English Service broadcast from the date and
time mentioned above:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3NQWbRnecw

Here's a few tips for anyone looking to log the Voice of Korea, the
international broadcasting arm of the North Korean government. These
rules/tips don't apply to KCBS.

They service begins within a few seconds of :#0 after the hour with their
very identfiable interval tune that is interspersed with a male and female
announcer saying "This is voice of korea" in whatever language is about to
sign on.

The programming ends about 24-25 after the next hour and the last 2 minutes
of the broadcast is spent going over the frequency and time schedule
information on where/when you can hear that particular language.

The transmitter is then left on, but there's an open carrier fir 3 minutes
until the next language service begins.

The SINPO rating was a joke, to try and elaborate on how strong the
signal is!

[HCDX] AIR Vividh Bharati 9870kHz

2016-10-18 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
This is AIR's Vividh Bharati Service on 9870kHz. Recorded at 1600UTC on
October 18 ,2016. SINPO rating of 5! This is one of the best recordings
I have of the station!

Equipmewnt used includes a Tecsun PL880, Wellbrook ALA1530LNP, EmTech ZM2
Antenna Tuner and DXEngineering HF PreAmp.

Location is Galena, Alaska which is in the rural central interior region of
Alaska, 300 miles West of Fairbanks and 300 miles east of Nome.

Audio link of about 45 minutes worth of their programming is below:

[HCDX] Radyo Pilipinas Confusing Schedule

2016-10-20 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
So, I tried to listen to Radyo Pilipinas today and it apepars various
schedules and frequencies are a bit screwy.

This is the copy of the email I sent to them in hopes of clearing things
up. Can anyone provide a verified schedule? I know I've heard Radyo
Pilinpas in the past, but it was just in passing

**

I am a Shortwave radio listener in Alaska USA and trying to tune into your
english broadcasts but can't seem to find the proper schedule.

One shortwave schedule website lists 9910, 12120 and 15190 as your engish
frequencies while your own website lists 12010, 15640 and 17820 as your
english frequencies.

However, your Facebook page lists 11880 and 15285 as your english
frequencies.

None of the frequencies listed for your english broadcast seem to match
anywhere.

One website that listed your english frequencies has the correct times, but
they are your Filipino frequencies.

Can you please clarify what are the correct frequencies and times for your
english broadcasts of Radyo Pilinpinas for B16 that starts at the end of
October?

What are the correct A16 frequencies and time schedule which ends this
month?

thank you,
Paul walker

Re: [HCDX] Radyo Pilipinas Confusing Schedule

2016-10-20 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
DZRP replied to me and said "Thank you very much for your reception report.
We are also inviting you to listen to our English Broadcast daily
at UTC+02:00.

Frequencies for our English Broadcast are at *15.640 MHz, *17.820 MHz and
*12.010 MHz"

I assume they mean 0200 like noted by Ivo in an earleir threaD?

[HCDX] TP DX

2016-11-14 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
1545UTC to 1830UTC or so today, 11/14/16

Over half of what I heard, if you subtract the noise, would've been very
listenable

Had a very loud, clear listenable signal from AFN The Eagle 810khz and a
mushy signal from them on 1575.

Had mildly to somewhat good listenable Aussies on 1116(weak to poor, noisey
and hard to understand),792 newscast with fair to good signal but some
noise, 774 fair but noisey with news, 612(probably the best of the aussies)
and 963 (fairly strong with music but lots of noise). All of them producing
very listenable audio on peaks

My loudest Asians were 567, 1350 and 1566. 1566 was like a local here.

Also had Pyongyang on 657khz, being splattered to death by KFAR 660, 10kw
non directional from 300 miles to my east.

Also had good signals from
567, good signal, a little static and noise.
594 almost sounded alot like the 567 signal, slightly less noisey and a bit
stronger then 567
729 a little noise but fairly strong, man talking
954 (fairly strong but very noisy and fadey),
1134 sounded like a morning type show, lots of energy and laughing and
several characters talking. very solid, strong, steady signal, not much
fading, just a bit of noise
1179 strong but a little noise and some splatter from something else
1197 kind a echoy, and noisy,
1208 sounds like it was playing an instrumental version of Home On The
Range over and over again, it went on for over 10 minutes!
1503 good signal, with music. Some noise

[HCDX] Trying to figure something out...

2016-11-25 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
... One of my regular visitors is AFN 810 The Eagle from Yokota Air Base in
Japan, with 50,000 watts.

The signal can be quite good at times, but it doesn't last too long and
fades out to mush but often comes back

Also, it peaks about an hour before local sunset (sunrise is 1930UTC) and
is gone just as the sun begins to rise.

I know what it starts to break up at sunrise, that's obvious.. but it's
never really present before 1830UTC, why is that? It's still dark in Japan,
barely past Midnight local time, so one would think I could hear it well
when it's dark in both places.

Also why does the signal take such dramatic dives? Those dives happen
everyday.

I'm sure there's a reason for this and with the extreme cold I'm now
dealing with, I just like to figure this out so I can figure otu the best
times to go out and maximize the signal I hear/can get.

The one I am most puzzled about is 1215.. looking in the ACMA database, I
get two listings...4HI Moranbah with 250 Watts and 6NM Northam with 500W..
that would seem near impossible to be heard up here.

I guess 1152 is 6PB. Not sure who 1134 is though.

[HCDX] My Three Favorite TP Logs

2016-11-25 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
My three favorite TP loggings form Alaska so far would have to be AFN The
Eagle 810, 50kw from Yokota Air Base Japan, AFN The Eagle 1575 5kw from
Misawa Air Base Japan and V7AB 1098 13kw from The Marshall Islands

In the first instance of logging AFN The Eagle 1575 on November 14th, it
happened at 1714UTC with Katy Perry's "Birthday" playing. Here is a 30
second recording:

http://www.onairdj.com/amdx/AFNTheEagle1575_11142016_1814UTC.mp3

After the Katy Perry song ended, I heard a break for public service
announcements and one of the announcements was two guys talking, and one
gave a phone number that sounded like 253-ACSC, but it's hard to know if
that's right through the jumbled mushy mess of a signal.

At the end of the break, I heard a liner voiced by a deep voiced male that
said "AFN The Eagle, Serving America's Best". Here's a recording of that
liner:
http://www.onairdj.com/amdx/AFNTheEagle1575_11142016_1817UTC.mp3

Here's one of 810 The Eagle form November 21st at 1851UTC:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnRaSgEBJu4

Here's 810 The Eagle from November 22at 1843UTC:
https://soundcloud.com/onairdjpaulwalker/810november-22-2016-9-43-29-am

Hear that chirping type sound in the background? It was in one of the
original clips I sent you as well. I did some research into this, and as it
turns out, that's South Korea on 819khz running the infamous "Video game
jammer" trying to jam Pyongyang and the signal is so wide it spreads 8khz
down the dial.

This is what the video game jammer on 819khz really sounds like:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mb25e6IQrc=youtu.be

Here's 810 from November 24th at 1810UTC:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mROtw8UQ7nI

I had V7AB in at listenable levels for over half an hour on November 11
between 0518UTC and 0550UTC. The signal would fade down at times but I
would give this an overall SINPO rating of 35354. I'd rate this as good
because I was easily able to understand the music and the clips I uploaded
to YouTube garnered me 4 notices of copyright violations for the songs,
which were all correctly identified by their systems in the copyright
violation notices.

Here's a few clips of V7AB where the music is very audible and easily
identifiable:

Now, someones pulled a rabbit out of their hat and suggested that the 1215
I heard was not ABC Midwest & Wheatbelt's 6NM Northam, but possibly
NewsTalk ZB from New Zealand on 1215khz.

Well, in -18 below (windchil of like -25) the Grundig drifts badly and the
Lowe HF225 keypad stops responding and tuning on the dial is seriously
slow.

AFN The Eagle 810 Yakota AFB(Tokyo) Japan was in pretty well at times.

[HCDX] TP Report 11/24 1825-1900UTC

2016-11-24 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
1566 HLAZ was on the lower side of good, which is unusual.. it usually
peels the paint off at beyond arm chair copy here.

Pyongyang not noted on 657khz, splatter from KFAR 660 300 miles to my east
killed any chance of that.

1053 fair to good, 1098 very weak with barely perceptable audio.

No AFN on 1575 today whatsoever, AFN 810 was its usual fair to good,
disappearing in the mush as quick as it came but coming back up.

[HCDX] ABC 6NM 1215khz Northam, Western Australia

2016-11-27 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I've emailed ABC Wheatbealt & Midwest with my recording of 1215khz, to see
if it's really them. I know most have said it is ABC, 6NM Northam but I
wanted to try and confirm it on my own. The clip was recorded at 1837UTC
November 25th, which would be 237AM November 26th in Northam, Western
Australia and 737AM in New Zealand (Sunrise in NZ that day was about 545AM)

Here's my recording:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIBPaqhXQso

I listened to clips of ABC Overnight hosts Trevor Chappel and Rod Quinn
along with clips of Nigel Yalden, the guy who would've been on NewsTalk ZB
at the time.

Nigel Yalden: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3z1JU5P03gg
Rod Quinn:
http://www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/overnights/overnights---olympic-games-closing-ceremony/7770022
Trevor Chappel:
http://www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/overnights/end-of-life-discussions/8058010

My clip does not sound much like Nigel Yalden at all and in the mushy messy
signal It could sound like Trevor or rod, but Rod was hosting that night..
and it does kinda sound more like him then the other 2.

I just find it near amazing that a 500 watt non directional AM would make
it 13,000km/8100 miles but there are only two real options for what I
heard.. NewsTalk ZB 1215 or 6NM and I think Nigel's voice and the fact it
was well past sunrise in NZ rules out ZB.

I am pretty sure that the Grant Broadcaster's Kix Country network doesn't
run any pure speech/talk programming. Though, They do have an AM on 1215 in
Borwal, NSW Australia.

One other ting leading me to think this really is 6NM is that around the
same time, within minutes of each other, I am fairly certain I heard 6RPH
990, Perth Western Australia which is only 95km/59 miles away from Northam.

Some previous email threads about this are below.

[HCDX] Too cold!

2016-11-27 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Well, there comes a time when even I won't go outside and that's going to
happen alot this winter, I can already tell,.

It's 9L15AM and -17 below right now, the windchill is at -25 below.

Nope, not happening.. no outside DX for me this morning, plus I've got
other stuff inside that needs to be done anyways.

Now, if it was -15 below with no wind, I could potentially tolerate
that for a few minutes.

Re: [HCDX] [IRCA] ABC 6NM 1215khz Northam, Western Australia

2016-11-28 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
One theory I find plausible is one that a radio friend in NSW brought up

4HI was broadcasting a replay of a sports talk show, hence the mentions of
cricket an suchforth.

Plausible? Considering 4HI rebroadcasts an hour long breakfast show at 1pm,
I find this idea very possible.

[HCDX] Australia DX Groups??

2016-11-28 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Are there any Australian email or facebook groups dealing with AM DXing?
Since it seems like Aussies will be the order of the day for my AM DXing, I
should probably join a group

Whoever it is was bubbling up again today at 1745UTC, I could hear the
speech and nearly certainly tell it was the english language, going to dip
back outside in half an hour and check.

[HCDX] Australian AM station #1 Confirmed!

2016-11-28 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I've heard quite a few Australian AM's in the last 2 weeks but have only
written to a few seeking confirmation of what I heard.

At 1829UTC Saturday November 26th (4:29AM in Queensland on November 27th) I
heard a station on 1026khz playing Stevie Wonder's "Superstition"

Here's the audio:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb24iXjFIuU

Grant Broadcasts Mackay Content Director confirmed what I heard was 4MK
1026 Mackay by saying, "spot on - that was 4MK. Our pattern doesn't shoot
your way. Our broadcast pattern has strong spurs from Mackay NNW / SSE, and
less powerful E/NE / WSW ... basically a + symbol leaned to the left a
little."

Just a few minutes late at 1832UTC, I heard a station on 990khz playing
"Brandy, you're a fine girl" by The Looking Glass.

I have not heard back yet, but I strongly suspect this is 4RO Rockhampton,
QLD. A sister station to 4MK and running a classic hits/oldies format.

Here's the audio:

Re: [HCDX] [IRCA] ABC 6NM 1215khz Northam, Western Australia

2016-11-28 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Its not Kix Country, that Grant Broadcasters network runs no long form
spech programming. I've confirmed that.

Where is the RealDX group?

A radio friend and I are theorizing it's 4HI's 1215 relay running a live
overnight networked talk program or a replay of an old sports show.

250 watts from Queensland, still not bad.
