I have both version 5 (last build dated 11 Aug 2005 and the
latest Version 6.0.0.73 coexisting on my computer. If you do not
have the full install version of Legacy 5 you could download that
from the Legacy web site (cannot remember just where it is but it
is still available). Install Legacy 5 in a NEW directory, run it
and use it to open your Legacy 6 Data file. The last build of
Legacy 5 has no problems with the data file for Legacy 6.0.0.73
so you could use that version to fix your location prepositions
then run Legacy 6 for any other work you need to do.

Thanks for all the ideas on searching the Master Source. I start each source
with the word Source, i.e., Source 1, Source 2, etc. so that if I want to go
back to the copy of the source to confirm the information or to make a copy
of the source for someone who has requested it.

How do the rest of you file your sources if you don't somehow number them in
the file folder, 3 ring binder or however the sources are filed if the
number on the copy doesn't match the number of the source.

Put the Number you have in your file in the File ID slot rather than

I take it this error occurs every time you attempt to open Legacy? Is it

Hi Susan,

The little red dot with the white center beside the siblings icon
indicates the presence of half siblings.

I found them in my own file, and didn't know what it meant either.
Couldn't find Help Family View Button bar as Bert suggested..

Thinking it might be something new in Legacy 6 I first looked in
Legacy 5 (I have both versions 5 and 6 on my computer) and found
the dot beside the siblings icon there too, but not as prominent.
Having purchased the Legacy 5 User's Guide I spent a few minutes
to look it up. Sure enough, it indicates half siblings, just as C.G.
Couimet suggested in his reply to your first posting. The little dot
seems to be there to alert you to the fact that there are half siblings
in this family, even if they are not showing.

But I can't find the little dot elsewhere in the button bar. Only at the
siblings icon. Can you specify where else you are seeing the red
dot with the white center? -- Alice

Search for Family View in the Help File, than select The Family View on
this page you'll see:

Siblings
Click on the icon to display a list of the brothers and sisters. You can
then select a sibling to be moved to the current position. See Siblings
List for more information. (If there are half-siblings in this family, a
small dot appears in the upper-right corner of the icon as an indicator.
If the person has no siblings, the icon will not be colored.

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy has encountered an error!!

2005-12-16 Thread LegacySupport
Diane,

I'm going to have you do a complete uninstall and then reinstall. After you
uninstall Legacy, with Windows Explorer find and look in the C:\Legacy
folder or what ever folder you had Legacy installed in. Within this folder
you will find several files remaining that you will need to delete.
Carefully delete all of the files in the Legacy folder but DO NOT delete any
of the folders like the Data folder, Picture Folder or Web Folder as these
folders hold your data and you don't want to accidentally delete your family
file or pictures. All the other files should be deleted. You'll need to
reset your preferences after you reinstall.

Download the Standard Edition from our website. If you have the Deluxe
Edition, you'll need to go to Help Unlock Legacy Deluxe to unlock the
Deluxe features after you reinstall.

When you reinstall, make sure that all other programs are shut down and your
anti-virus software is disabled.

Thanks for using Legacy.

[LegacyUG] Picture scrapbook for multiple people

2005-12-16 Thread Anne Berg

I am a new Legacy user. I am trying to create a book and want to include
pages of photos that pertain to more than one indiividual. For instance, for
a family with eight children, I would like to have a page showing group
shots of various multiple siblings and/or parents, and it would be titled
The Children of John and Jane Doe.In the Legacy Publishing Center, Is
there a way to do that using the picture scrapbook feature, or must I insert
a place holder and then put in a separate page with this caption and photos?

I love the great features of Legacy!

Thanks.

Thanks, Cathy, for the helpful suggestion. I did not even know what my
options were to put in the File ID. I've tried a couple of my sources, and I

I just knew I'd find someone in Legacy-land that would help me. It's an
