Is there a button or something I'm missing that I'm not seeing to set
Prefered Parents in the parent list? I didn't see anything there.

Have a look at the Options Customize General tab and look if you
have anything entered in Always open this file (Starting Family File).

Do you mean Legacy Charting? Legacy is still on build .55 but Charting
is on build .119. If so, close LegacyCharting and you'll see Legacy
and the top menu again.
There are no options to switch this top menu in Family View on or off.
You can drag the Main toolbar to some other place on the Desktop
Try setting relationships again (Tools Set Relationship)

The Name List starts with RIN 1 so I don't see why the Index couldn't

I think you cannot add or remove icons from that form. I still see the
calendar icon between the Add pictures and To Do icon. It's the icon
with the 6.
