Hello from Gregg C Levine
Just your average web page ...
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\LocalSettings\Temp\~7458936.htm is a web page?
On whose system?
THAT is my point.

Greetings; (Posted to VMESA-L and VSE-L and LINUX-390)
- - Now in its fifth year! - - Now includes VSE and linux/390!
I have set up a public service web page at
http://www.eskimo.com/~wix/vm/
for posting positions available and wanted for VM, VSE and linux/390.
Please visit the
Free half-day seminar that explores the value of Linux on zSeries and
offers practical implementation advice. Please find agenda, cities, dates,
enrollment procedures at http://www3.ca.com/events/default.asp?evTP=4.
Seminar title is Linux on The Mainframe: From Vision to Production.

I tried to send the author a note about this, and it seems that the e-mail
address doesn't exist, so I'll ask here:
Has anyone been able to access this guy's C: drive to get the agenda, or is
there an actual web address available to get the information? Since the
attachment doesn't make it
I've been looking at the various Linux clustering facilities at the Linux Clustering
Information Center (http://www.lcic.org/); most of the projects for, say,
computational clusters seem to be only for Intel-based Linux. Would it make sense to,
or has anyone toyed with the idea of Linux
Mr. Santalucia did resend his msg with a valid link this time. Cut/Paste

customer who is very eager to know it this is possible.

John,
If you're talking about HP (High Performance) clusters, then no, that would
not make sense. S/390 is not well suited for compute-intensive workloads
(the processors are just too slow compared to other architectures). HA
(High Availability) clustering would be a different matter. Chapter
Cathy,
I just tried the CA link and it brought up the page just fine.

You can configure Samba to never be a MASTER browser. It will integrate
very well with WINS as well as a domain. The nmbd daemon handles the
NETBIOS stuff if I recall correctly. All these settings are defined in
smb.conf. Try this link for more information:

James,
In that case, a Samba server can be its own island. The drawback is that
you have to maintain two sets of passwords on the Samba server - one in
/etc/passwd with the UNIX hash and one in smbpasswd with the MS (triple
DES) hash. Use the smb.conf parm encrypt passwords = yes (unless you
Hi, Max.
You probably already found your answer, but if not try 'startkde' or

it too much to expect an entire desktop to work correctly?
I've run gnome on it fine.

Hi,
this ist my first try to compile a new kernel under z/VM. Well, I installed
SLES7.2 (kernel 2.4.5) and wanted to update to
kernel 2.4.17. I installed the patches and did a make dep. Everything was
ok. Then I run a make image which ended:
linux # make image
gcc -D__KERNEL__
Is this in an LPAR or under VM? If under VM, are the OSA addresses attached
to the virtual machine?
