Dear all,
I somehow am unable to change the qualities of the voiceover. Everything is
read out really slow.
VO-Cmd used with arrows doesn't work. although the percentages are changed, the
voice still sounds the same. I tried to reinstall the voices, but I still keep
having the same issues.
Dear all,
Another question, is there a way to deal with multilingual text using the
voiceover?
For work, I have to read multilingual texts (dutch, mandarin, english)- meaning
more languages within one document. Really could use some advice.
Best,
Fresco

Hello Linda,
Pages is not good for reading straight through a document. Sometimes it works
but most often it doesn't. If this is a document created in Pages, then I'd
just select all (Cmd-a), copy to clikpboard and paste into a TextEdit document
which will read straight through just fine.
I
Hello Andy,
You might find it useful to buy a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adaptor for your MBA

Hello Fresco,
VoiceOver doesn't automatically switch languages, but if you leave the Voice
rotor on Voice, VO-Cmd-Down Arrow will switch voices rapidly.

Thank you anne, Do you recommend another word processing program or would
text edit do a great deal for a document.
I don't know if I should keep pages or not. I want a document to read
straight through and if text edit will be good for long documents then, this
will be nice.

Hello Linda,
TextEdit is a simplified word processor which is very useful, but it isn't a
professional tool.
Pages, on the other hand, is much more sophisticated and can produce all kinds
of professional documents.

I have learned to set text edit as my default processor.

Dear all,
When in the music table I was wondering if there was a way to click on the
column headers without using a mouse? I like to sort by date added now and
again, or by artist.
Can anyone give me a keyboard way to do this?
With thanks
Ian

Hi Ian,
VO-Shift-backslash works to sort any column of a table, whether you're in
Finder or in iTunes. If you use it again, it will reverse the order of sort.
(On English language keyboards the backslash key is under the delete key.)
Remember to interact.
Cheers,
Esther
On Jul 30, 2013,
sure. Vo shift cabk slash will do you fine, so hit that, then hit space on the
button you want to sort by. It's a toggle so you will with one press sort down
and the next press sort up. When you choose what you want to sort by hit vo
shift back slash again to stop the process.

Can you change it via the voice over utility? vo f8? if not I don't know as
something might have gotten corrupted. Not sure though.
Good luck and hope that helps.

You can vo shift m on the attachment. you will see it as embedded something
where the something will be the name of the file. Then choose open. You can
also go to the headers area with vo left then interact and click the
attachments pop up button. I like the first way better though. lol!
Linda -
When VO reads 'embeded', move the mouse pointer to that spot, by pressing and
holding the VO keys, with Command and F5. Then, open the context menu [VO shift
and the letter m] and then use the arrow keys to get to save to downloads, you
can always move it from there. Anne told me how
Hi Linda,
You can also Quick Look mail attachments with Command-Y to read. Helpful if
you don't want to save the attachment.

You can also go to file and then save all attachments and then save them on
your desk top as well. This for multiple attachments in an email and it's a
fast way to do just that.
Take care.

Hi all -
When I try to do this using VO and the arrow keys, I get lost, things don't
read in a way that makes much sense.
If I arrow down, VO announces ro 4, and the next down arrow will say row 7,
and down again will say row 5… so clearly, isn't really helping me see which

Does anybody else find this to be the case? Everytime I open the app, It spends
ages updating indexes etc, or just hangs showing me the busy indicator, and I

You are actually doing it correctly, but check to see if you are in dom vs
group mode. You should be in dom mode to read properly. It might also be the
web site coder who messed up as well but those are just my thoughts.
Be blessed.

What adds to the difficulty in reading these tables, is that VO will say
column one, expanded across 5 rows. And then I arrow down, and I hear
different co-ordinates spoken, but there doesn't appear to be a pattern to it.

I think that probably what you may be experiencing is a non uniform table.
As far as I am aware voiceover does not announce a non unified table layout
to alert you to this problem.
The non unified table layout will have varying columns and row arrangements
throughout the table. Row one may have 3
Sounds about right I deal with tables all the time with safari and voice over.
Never on other platforms unless I have to, and I just visualize those as I had

is just imagine the space the table takes up on a piece

I've found Chrome with VO handles some tables better than Safari. In addition,
if you install the ChromeVox extension and take an hour or two to learn the
ChromeVox navigation keys, you will have an additional TTS option when
attempting to navigate troublesome tables.
