As I said, MKII works fine but MKIV gives the error message.

For mkiv minimals, the following should work:
a) Install font as appropriate for your OS.
b) Make sure OS font directory containing

the subdirectories, right?
After that I ran: context --generate.
Wolfgang, the file parameter of the definefont
and such
looks very different (and wrong) compared to pdftex/mkii (invoked using
context --luatex/--pdftex).
I think the bug is either in context or my context setup, because lualatex
compared with pdflatex is fine, so it doesn't seem engine related.

have a chance to try the first implementations of
ConTeXt terminal for gnuplot. It needed 10 minutes for 13 ordinary
plots and it ran out of memory if I tried to plot 14 of them!!! (The
reason was the usage of btex text etex constructs which lead to
ConTeXt runs inside metapost runs inside ConTeXt runs
to `/Library/Fonts`. But alas, for another question. I only post
it here in case the two issues are related.

fmtutil-sys --all
3. Ran

used to update TeXLive 2009 successfully with this method, however I ran into
the same error when updating TeXLive 2010. As I did not succeed and could not
figure out what caused the error I installed minimals without problems. I
suggest you install minimals and point the environment variable

I meant that I ran (several times) 'context --generate' after I made a
link to cm-unicode.
