lot. The rip is well to the left, identified by a rougher swath of water.

I am not exactly sure where this is but I know it is below the escarpment
and perhaps 3/4 mile north of the roosting rocks, where we had the bird
yesterday. If it continues to move around to such a degree, it could prove
difficult to find. The observers below were looking from the Ontario side.
in huge flotillas of Bonaparte's Gulls. Numbers of large gulls were reduced
from the immense numbers of last weekend but still pretty good. Ice is
starting to flow down the river, which may further reduce the numbers of
gulls.

Everyone,
There was parking there until 911 and after that they only allowed
handicapped people to use it. Everyone else had to park in the lot above
and walk down which was a pretty long walk. When Dean and I saw the
black-headed I suggest that I drive him down and drop him off and go back
CACKLING GEESE. Two CACKLING GEESE were at
Ring-necked Marsh, where the Barnacle Goose was. One more was at the corn
stubble field on Fletcher Chapel Road.

WINTER FINCH FORECAST 2011-2012
This winter’s theme is that cone crops are excellent and extensive across
much of the boreal forest and the Northeast. It will not be a flight year.
Finches will be spread thinly
The juvenile Swainson's Hawk was in the same spot at 3:00, where Greg had it
- a mile east of Walker-Lake Ontario Road. The bird spent all of its time
on the ground in the grassy median of the Lake Ontario Parkway, occasionally
running after and catching prey. When it gets close to the road
and Dave Gordon had a first winter LITTLE GULL there around sunset.

We called Angus Wilson, Willie, D'Anna, Betsy Potter, and Dave Gagne, with
whom we had been birding earlier in the day, and the bird cooperated for
them and for others through the day (Rich Fried say it fly off around dusk).
Earlier on Sunday, highlights
reduced in the afternoon. There were no reports of the California Gull this
day. Purple Sandpipers have yet to be found on the river this season. Lots
of diving ducks upriver from the control gates.

it is an adult or near adult (red spot on the bill) and should show a gray
mantle. Also, the wingtips are a bit long for Glaucous Gull. It really
looks perfect for a leucistic Herring Gull.

Thanks to Celeste Morien for posting this bird earlier. The WHITE-FACED
IBIS was still present at the Modern Landfill Constructed Wetland when we
left it with several birders at 8:10 p.m. During the time we were there, we
also saw two SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, two STILT SANDPIPERS, three SOLITARY

Countyline Road. The bird has been seen slightly to the west of Fire Lane
41A and slightly to the east of 41B and has been seen to fly toward the lake
between these two lanes.

The SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER found by Gary Chapin continued to be seen through
much of the afternoon on Sunday, at least until we left it around 5:00.
This is a juvenile and it was generally associating with PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS, which was the most common species present.

I watched Lake Ontario from home for nearly 4 and 1/2 hours this morning.
There was a nice flight of waterbirds, with the highlight bird coming only ten
minutes into my watch - a breeding-plumaged PACIFIC LOON! See details below.

we came back, and were treated to extended views of 22 individuals, feeding
mainly on Norway spruce, occasionally on Red Pine. They were here off and
on all morning. We both managed to get some decent audio.

on the NY side, several TUNDRA SWANS above the control gates, and a juvenile
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL at Fort Niagara State Park.
