I agree with Bruce: just start a new backup, keep the older one for retrieval
of older, archived files. A 2T drive is like $100 nowadays, buy a new drive to
be your primary external drive.
The Time Machine backup is a very complex layering of files and other
information. It wasn't

One of the quirks of Booksmart is that it can't automatically flow text
between text frames. It's easy enough to work around this by manually
breaking text but you need to be careful if you later edit the text -
you'll need to manually cut and paste text

In case this is of any use, I don't use Time Machine, instead preferring
the manual control of Shirt Pocket's 'SuperDuper!'
It's the dumbest name ever for a piece of software that is in fact one
of the best methods to manually backup a hard drive. It is very well
supported with updated

I use "SuperDuper!" too, it's an invaluable tool, but only for cloning volumes.
Unfortunately, when it clones bootable volumes, it does not clone the hidden
'startup volume' that allows re-installation of macOS, so I usually run a macOS

I haven’t done a Blurb recently.
You can prepare and upload a Blurb book from within Lightroom. The process
seemed limiting and less flexible to me compared to using Blurb’s software
directly.
I never liked the Blurb utilization of text, always problems with paragraph
breaks and page breaks
I have El Capitan running now. I tried to transfer my Time Machine backup to a
new, larger disk, and after a few hours of grinding things came to a halt with
“Error Code -43,” saying that some files could not be found.
Snooping around on line, I learned that symbols in file names (e.g. %, #, &,
Rick, an alternate suggestion. When I bought a larger Time Machine
backup drive I just unhooked the older one and started new backups
with the newer drive. If I ever need to recover older files, there's a
simple way to remount the older disk and have TM search it too. So now
I have backups going
Dave, I have a done a few Blurb books, but nothing as advanced as Mark.
If you download the Blurb app for the Mac you can make your own page
layout templates and customize it a lot. I never used Blurb's supplied
templates except as a starting point. I created layouts with images
and text on each
