I'm using tzdata 2009j from jaunty-proposed, and my computer turned to June 20 00:00 from June 19 22:59 automatically. I'll notify the new tzdata file hits the -updates repository. I have seen a lot of people to argue that they have original version of windows and that is the end of the world- rest of the softwares are pirated. FOSS can take care of such problem. Our technical forums and blogs are currently doing great job in this issue. A lot of people might be interested in FOSS activities (as well as software development) if they know FOSS softwares can be developed in other commercial platforms as well. Can't say for certain if it surpassed 400 participants or, but there were a lot of people who weren't present throughout the program. Some got bored watching the documentary (we made a mistake by not announcing it's time length) and left in the middle, some stayed for an hour and then left, like that. At one point the auditorium was full and some people had to stand at the back. Overall it was a great program, we had a large team of volunteers who helped with registrations, hall management, seating arrangement, tea/biscuit distributing, t-shirt and DVD sales, and so on. I didn't speak at the program today, but helped with volunteer coordination and taking pictures, which I'll upload soon on our gallery. BTW everyone loved your banner design, and I loved it too! I proudly wore my Ubuntu t-shirt and so did other volunteers and organisers of the event! I think the problem was at our end, the connection was slow here plus the WiMAX modem was giving trouble. I don't have the exact details but I heard that there were more issues with live streaming which was solved by Lenin bhai and others who were dealing with it. We were experiencing lots of technical difficulties. Which delayed the show for about 10minutes at the start. Then we had some problem due to the power extention cords which resulted in broadcasting at ustream.tv delayed due to some other technical difficulties. We expected to have lots of laptops there but there were only one :P The one we showed movie from was Russell bro's laptop with damaged LCD! Just directly displayed through the projector! The other one we were using was brought in by Ring bro. On which Goutam bro and Me were broadcasting the Live Stream and Live blogging. Mainly all thanks goes to Goutam bro, who patiently blogged constantly and restlessly. We had standby assistants: Sharif Omar, Nirjhor, Shafiul Azam and lot others who were just ready to help in our purpose. We had a problem to embed the video to the Sachalyatan's blog post due to their latest change in the writing panel. Didn't find the HTML object embedding option there. I'm having a huge headache due to staying all the time in the sweating hotness and less flow of air(Probably Goutamda is also suffering so). [Ubuntu-BD] New leadership of Ubuntu Bangladesh
Dear friends, It's time for an announcement. Ubuntu Bangladesh was formed in 28th April 2006 [1], more than 4 years ago with the vision to create a solid platform for Ubuntu users and contributors in Bangladesh. We're are the official local community team in Bangladesh, recognised by Ubuntu Community Council and Ubuntu's sponsor Canonical Ltd. It's been a long journey, and I'm really glad that with all of your help, support, and contributions we've been able to achieve most of our major goals. I've been working as the team leader of Ubuntu Bangladesh throughout these years, and I've decided to step down and hand over the team leadership to two our very active volunteers, Shahriar Tariq and Shabab Mustafa. They have made a tremendous contribution for our team, for Ubuntu, and for Linux as a whole, and I strongly believe that Ubuntu Bangladesh will prosper even more under their new leadership. Absolutely, I'm disappointed too to know that the DVD is not installable. On all our earlier programs we supplied official Ubuntu CDs or DVDs, we carefully avoided remastered ones since it is obvious that they will create trouble since they didn't go through the same rigorous testing that an official Ubuntu release goes through. I would have opposed the idea of producing remastered DVDs if I knew about it on the meeting that we did two days prior to the program. My understanding was that the extra codecs/files were supplied on separate directory on the DVD. Anyhow what's done cannot be redone, so we'll have to take this as a valuable lesson and be extra careful in the future. I understand that the organisers were extremely busy with all the other issues and there weren't much time in hand either. The pass and username was not supplied beforehand. So a new user who didn't have subscription in this list couldn't get into the linux world as AP was down. 5. Overall this DVD distributing effort from us will have negative impact on us I believe. From the next time there must be Quality Check before delivering such goods. I'm temporarily making this list moderated, no further emails on this topic will pass through. 2010/7/27 Lenin le...@phpxperts.net: এখানে এক ব্যক্তির স্তুূতি এটাই প্রমাণ করে যে গ্রুপের অস্তিত্ত্ব প্রশ্নের সম্মুখীন। কারণ তা না হলে এভাবে সব সিনিয়র সদস্যের আত্মসমর্পণ কেনো? যিনি ভুল করেছেন তিনি ভুলকে ভুল না বলে লাইসেন্সের জটিলতার মতো খল-ছল চাতুরির আশ্রয় নিচ্ছেন। আর সেগুলোকে সমর্থন দিয়ে অপরকে অপমানের হেতু কি শাহরিয়ার? একজনের উপর ছেড়ে দিয়ে নিশ্চিন্ত হবার ব্যাপারটি এমন যে, আমার গায়ে আঁচড়টা না লাগুক। অন্যে যা করে করুক। গত নভেম্বরে অনুষ্ঠিত পার্টিটিতে আপনার অনুপস্থিতি ছাড়াও অন্যান্য সদস্যদের অনেক অনুরোধ সত্ত্বেও নিষ্ক্রিয়তা ছিলো। এর আগে কখনো উবুন্তু রিলিজ পার্টি ফাঁকা যায়নি তাই আমি স্ব-উদ্যোগেই অনুষ্ঠানটি আয়োজন করি, পার্টিটি কিন্তু লেনিন আয়োজিত পার্টি ছিলোনা। উবুন্তু বিডি'র ব্যানারেই ছিলো। সহযোগিতায় ছিলো আমার বিশ্ববিদ্যালেয়ের ছোট ভাইয়েরা। কোন প্রকার পয়সা খরচ করা হয়নি তাতে। যাতায়াত ছাড়া। গ্রুপ থেকে এ পর্যন্ত কোনো সক্রিয় ওয়ার্কশপ আয়োজন কি হয়েছে? সম্পূর্ণ ডিভিডিগুলো ব্লান্ডার করার পরও ঔদ্ধত্যসহকারে সেই একই ব্যক্তি পরের অনুষ্ঠানগুলোতেও বিতরণের ইচ্ছা দম্ভভরে প্রকাশ কী প্রমাণ করে? এধরণের ব্লান্ডারের দায় কি একা ব্যক্তি রিংয়ের উপর বর্তায় নাকি পুরো গ্রুপের উপর? লিনাক্সের প্রতি কি আগ্রহ থাকবে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত লোকদের? ডিভিডিগুলো বদলাবদলি বাবদ মোট কতো খরচ পড়বে? লিফলেটগুলো প্রতি পিস আমি তো ১২/১৫টাকা দিয়ে কিনবোনা। তাহলে কেন দর্শকরা কিনবে? কোনোকিছুই প্যাচানো হয়নি। বরং শোধরানোর জন্যই আত্মসমালোচনা করা হয়েছে। নেতৃত্বে থেকে নিরপেক্ষতার অভাব নেতৃত্বের যোগ্যতা নিয়ে প্রশ্ন জাগায়। 2010/7/27 Shahriar Tariq shahr...@linux.org.bd *এটা টিম লিডার হিসেবে বলা কথা নয় ব্যক্তিগত মতামত* ভাই এখানে অনেক বড় বড় মহারতিরা তাদের জ্ঞানী মন্তব্য প্রদান করছেন তাদের আমি তাদের নিজেদের যোগ্যতার বিচারে সম্মান করি। কিন্তু যখন তাদের ব্যবহারে অন্য সদস্যের প্রতি নূন্যতম সম্মান প্রদর্শন পায় না তা খুবই পীড়াদায়ক। কেউ আপনার সাথে খারাপ ব্যবহার করলে ফিরিয়ে খারাপ ব্যবহার করতে হবে তা কি ঠিক? কমিউনিটি কোন একজন ব্যক্তির স্বেচ্ছাচারিতায় পরিচালিত হতে পারে না তা যেমন ঠিক তেমনই এটাও ঠিক অতি সন্নাসীতে গাজন নষ্ট। প্রতিটি কাজের দায়িত্বই নির্দিষ্ট কয়েকজন ব্যক্তির হাতে ছেড়ে দিতে হয়। সেটা যতোটা না সিনিয়িটির উপর তারচেয়ে বেশি যোগ্যতার উপর। কোন একজন নতুন সদস্য এসে নতুন কিছু করলে সিনিয়ররা গাইড করবেন ঠিকই, কিন্তু তাদের পরামর্শ গৃহীত হবে নাকি সেটা দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত ব্যক্তিই নির্ধারণ করবে। ডিভিডির মূল্য কোনভাবেই অতিরিক্ত ধরা হয়নি। ওপেনসোর্স/লিনাক্স প্রজেক্ট মানেই নূন্যতম মূল্যের জিনিস নয়। এটা আমি আগেও বলেছি এখনও বলছি। ওখানে ডিভিডির যে মূল্য ধরা হয়েছে তা কিছু অতিরিক্ত সুবিধা যোগ করেই ধরা হয়েছে ইংরেজীতে যাকে আমরা value addition বলেই জানি। আমার ক্ষেত্র আর রিং ভাইয়ের ক্ষেত্র এক নয় এটা প্রত্যেককে বুঝতে হবে, ব্যবসায়িক স্বার্থে মুখ কিছুটা বন্ধ রাখতে হয় তবে এখানে এটুকু বলতে পারি ব্যবসায়িক কারনে বা পরিচিতির কারণে যেভাবেই হোক টিশার্টের প্রজেক্টে আমি বকেয়া রেখেই টিশার্ট সংগ্রহ করে প্রিন্ট করতে পেরেছি (যদিও টাকা ইভেন্টের রাতেই আমি পে করেছি)। যেখানে রিং ভাইকে নগদে সব কাজ করতে হয়েছে এক কথায় ১৮,৮০০ টাকা বের করে দেয়া মুখের কথা নয়। যখন এর আগে বিভিন্ন সময়ে অনুষ্ঠান আয়োজনে আমরা পাঁচ হাজার টাকার জন্যও বিভিন্ন সদস্যকে অনুদানের কথা বলেছিলাম তখন বিফল হতে হয়েছিলো, সে ঘটনা অতীত বলে এখানে আর টেনে আনছি না। যারা কমিউনিটিতে তাদের অবদানের জাহির করছে তাদের নিকট আমার প্রশ্ন তারা কি সব সময় সক্রিয় অবদান রেখেছেন? এখানে কেউ কেউ তাদের একটি বা দুইটি সফল অনুষ্ঠানের বরাই করছেন। কিন্তু সবার সার্বিক সহযোগিতায় এখন পর্যন্ত উবুন্টু বাংলাদেশ অথবা বিএলইউএ-র ব্যানারে ৫-৬টি অনুষ্ঠান আয়োজিত হয়েছে। সেগুলো সবগুলোই যে সফল তা যেমন নয় সবগুলো যে ব্যার্থ তাও নয়। সেসব অনুষ্ঠানে করা ভুলগুলো থেকে আমরা ভবিষ্যতের জন্য শিক্ষা নিয়ে পরবর্তী অনুষ্ঠানগুলোকে কিছুটা হলেও উন্নত করেছি। আশা করি পরবর্তীতে যেসব অনুষ্ঠান আয়োজন হবে সেগুলো আরও সুসংগঠিত হবে। ভুল ভ্রান্তি আমাদেরও হয়েছে সেখান থেকে আমরা শিখেছিও, কিন্তু সেটা নিয়ে যদি কাঁদা ছোড়াছুড়ি শুরু হয় তবে তা খুবই লজ্জার বিষয় পুরো কমিউনিটির জন্যই। কাস্টোমাইজড ডিভিডি তৈরির প্রজেক্ট তিন বছরেরও বেশি পুরাতন, কই আমাদের মাঝে যেসব মহারথী কোডার আছেন তারা তো কখনও এগিয়ে এসে তা তৈরি করেননি। কখনও সীমিত আকারেও প্রচেষ্টা চালাননি তাদের মূল্যবান সময় থেকে একটু অবসর সময় বের করে নিয়ে। আলোচনার টেবিলে অনেক বড় বড় বিষয় নিয়েই তর্ক বিতর্ক হয়েছে কিন্তু কাজের সময় ফলাফল লবডঙ্গাই ছিলো। এজন্যই হয়তো এবার সবার মতামত নিয়ে কাজকে না পিছিয়ে একক দায়িত্বেই ছেড়ে দেয়া হয়েছিলো প্রজেক্টটি। হয়তো তিনি সবকিছু ফাইন্যাল করার আগে আর কারও পরামর্শ নিতে পারতেন সেটা পরের কথা। ইভেন্টের দুইদিন আগে করা ইভেন্ট মিটিং এ এসব আলোচনা করে পরিবর্তন করার সুযোগ খুবই কম কারণ ততোদিনে সবকিছুই ফাইন্যালাইজড হয়ে গেছে, নতুন করে পুনরায় সবকিছু কেঁচে গন্ডুল করা কঠিন। সময়ের স্বল্পতার জন্য হোক আর যে কারণেই হোক রিগোরাস টেস্টিং সম্ভব হয়নি, মেম্বাররাও পরখ করতে পারেননি। টেকনিক্যাল কারণে উবুন্টু ডিভিডি ইনস্টলেবল করা সম্ভব হয়নি এটা রিং ভাই বলেছেন সেটা পুরোপুরি টেকনিক্যাল নাকি পদ্ধতি সম্পর্কে অজ্ঞতা সেটা পরের কথা। রিং

I received a phone call from an ex-colleague's friend that: 1) A guy named Turjo Islam is calling himself the chairman of Ubuntu in Bangladesh, pointing people to ubuntu.com as a reference of how large the Ubuntu company is. 2) He said he has got WiMAX license and will be deploying it in Chittagong 3) He has grabbed money from a lot people as service change to setup Ubuntu ICT Centers all around Chittagong 4) As I was told, he has ran away with the money and people are now looking for him to give him a good bashing (গনধোলাই) Here's the photographic evidence that I was provided: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ubuntu-Bangladesh-Ltd/147116651780 I found the fraudster on LinkedIn this morning, and asked him why they using the name Ubuntu Bangladesh Ltd as well as the trademarked logo, and waiting for him to reply. The Facebook page is not the problem, in fact it'll help us to prove the misdeeds of the fraudsters. What I'm particularly concerned about is the allegation that he grabbed money from people by using visiting card/pad/print publication with the Ubuntu logo and Ubuntu's name itself, so if things turn really ugly then people who got cheated will point their finger at us. I've contacted the Community Council and I was advised not to take any legal action by ourselves before the legal team of Canonical starts their work. So for now let us collect as much as information / pictures as possible so that we can provide them as evidence later on. আপনি লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারী। কিন্তু আপনার মনে খুব দুঃখ যে শুধুমাত্র লিনাক্স নিয়ে আলোচনা করার জন্য বাংলায় কোনো ফোরাম নেই। সমস্যায় পড়লে বিভিন্ন বাংলা ফোরাম কিংবা ব্লগে গিয়ে সাহায্য চাইতে হয়। তাছাড়া অনলাইনে লিনাক্স নিয়ে বাংলায় আলোচনার জন্য নির্দিষ্ট কোনো ফোরাম না থাকায় লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারীরা বিভিন্ন বাংলা ব্লগ ও ফোরামে বিচ্ছিন্নভাবে ছড়িয়ে ছিটিয়ে সাহায্য করে যাচ্ছেন। কেমন হত যদি এই সব লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারীদের একছাদের নীচে আনা যেত। যদি শুধু লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারীদের জন্য একটা ফোরাম থাকতো! যেখানে সব লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারীরা একসাথে আড্ডা মারবেন। মনের সুখ-দুঃখের কথা বলতে পারবেন, একে অন্যকে সাহায্য করতে পারবেন, সেই সাথে নিজেদের মধ্যে ঠাট্টা তামাশাও করতে পারবেন। শুধু চিন্তা করে দেখুন, সব লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারী এক জায়গায়! আপনি উবুন্টু-মিন্ট-ফেডোরা যেটা নিয়েই সমস্যায় পড়েন না কেন, কেবল কোনো মতে হাঁচড়ে পাঁচড়ে সেই জায়গায় গিয়ে পৌঁছুতে পারলেই হয়, বাঘা বাঘা লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারীরা আপনার সমস্যা সমাধানে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়বে। ভাবতেই মনটা ভালো হয়ে যাচ্ছে - তাইনা! ২০০২ সাল থেকে স্বেচ্ছাসেবক সংগঠন বাংলাদেশ লিনাক্স ইউজার্স এলায়েন্স বা বিএলইউএ বাংলাদেশে লিনাক্স ছড়িয়ে দেবার জন্য কাজ করে আসছে। বিএলইউএ এর শাখা প্রতিষ্ঠান হচ্ছে উবুন্টু বাংলাদেশ এবং ফেডোরা বাংলাদেশ। তাছাড়া বাংলাদেশে ক্রিয়েটিভ কমন্স এর অ্যাফিলিয়েট হিসেবে কাজ করছে বিএলইউএ। পাশাপাশি বেশ কিছু সফটওয়্যারের বাংলা লোকালাইজেশনের উপরও কাজ হচ্ছে বিএলইউএ। সবচেয়ে বড় ব্যাপার হচ্ছে যে, সেই ২০০৫ সাল থেকেই কেবলমাত্র বাংলাদেশী লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারীদের জন্য বিএলইউএ একটি ফোরাম রয়েছে। এর নাম লিনাক্স ফোরাম। অবাক হচ্ছেন তাইনা! একটা পুরো ফোরাম লিনাক্সের জন্য, তাও আবার বাংলাদেশের লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারীদের জন্য - অথচ এ ব্যাপারটাই আপনি জানতেননা। না জানার মূল কারণ হচ্ছে লিনাক্স ফোরাম যখন থেকে শুরু হয় (২০০৫ সালে) তখনও লিনাক্স বাংলাদেশে ততটা জনপ্রিয় হয়ে উঠেনি, তাছাড়া সেসময় লোকজন এখনকার মত ব্যাপকভাবে ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহার করতো না ফলে ব্লগে ও ফোরামগুলোতে এত লোকের আনাগোনা ছিলনা। তাই স্বল্পসংখ্যক ব্যবহারকারীর ব্যবহার করা ফোরামটি অনেকটা আড়ালেই ছিল। তাছাড়া ফোরামটি বাংলাদেশীদের জন্য তৈরি করা হলেও সেসময় বাংলা লোকালাইজেশনের সুবিধা সেরকম না থাকায় এর ভাষা ছিল ইংলিশ। ফলে মায়ের ভাষায় সেভাবে আলোচনা করতে না পারায় এবং তার কিছু পরেই অনলাইনে সম্পূর্ণ বাংলা কয়েকটি ফোরাম চলে আসায়, লিনাক্স ফোরাম কার্যত অদৃশ্য হয়ে পড়ে। বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশে লিনাক্স প্রসার ও প্রচারে এবং নবীন ব্যবহারকারীদের জন্য লিনাক্স সম্পর্কীত বিভিন্ন আলোচনার জন্য কয়েকটি বাংলা ফোরাম ও ব্লগের অবদান অনস্বীকার্য। সত্যি বলতে কি, ঐ সব ফোরামে মাধ্যমেই লোকজন লিনাক্স সম্পর্কে উৎসাহী হয়েছে এবং এখন লিনাক্স ব্যবহার করছে। কিন্তু এতে কিছু সমস্যায়ও পড়তে হয় নতুন ব্যবহারকারীদের। যেহেতু এরকম কোনো ফোরাম বা ব্লগ নেই যেখানে সকল লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারী একসাথে রয়েছেন, সেহেতু দেখা যায় যে সর্বোচ্চ সাহায্য পাবার আশায় একজন ব্যবহারকারী একই প্রশ্ন বিভিন্ন ফোরাম ও ব্লগে পোস্ট করেন এবং উত্তর দেখার জন্য সবগুলো ফোরাম ও ব্লগে তাকে নিয়মিত যেতে হয়। ব্যাপারটা বেশ ঝামেলার। তাই শুধুমাত্র লিনাক্সের জন্য একটা বাংলা ফোরামের অভাব সবসময়ই অনুভূত হত। এমন একটা ফোরাম যেখানে নবীন থেকে প্রবীন কিংবা নাদান থেকে ঝানু - সব ধরনের লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারীরা একত্রিত হবেন, যেখানে নতুন ব্যবহারকারীরা সব রকমের সাহায্য পাবেন, যেখানে পুরনো ব্যবহারকারীরা তাদের অভিজ্ঞতাকে কাজে লাগিয়ে নতুন ব্যবহারকারীদের জ্ঞানকে সমৃদ্ধ করবেন, যেখানে লিনাক্স ব্যবহার করতে গিয়ে মুখোমুখি হওয়া যে কোনো সমস্যা নিয়ে যে কেউ নির্দ্বিধায় আলোচনা করতে পারবেন। সোজা কথায়, শুধু বাংলায় পুরোপুরি লিনাক্সময় একটা ফোরামের খুব অভাব ছিল। বাংলা ভাষায় নির্মিত সম্পূর্ণ লিনাক্স ফোরামের এই অভাবটি এবার ঘুচতে যাচ্ছে। বিএলইউএ লিনাক্স ফোরামটিকে পুরোপুরি বাংলায় রূপান্তর করে ফেলা হয়েছে। সেই সাথে নতুন থিম ব্যবহার করে চেহারায়ও নতুনত্ব দেয়া হয়েছে লিনাক্স ফোরামকে। বলা যায় যে নতুন রূপে লিনাক্স ফোরামের পুণর্জন্ম হয়েছে। এবার লিনাক্সপ্রেমী ও লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারীদের কলতানের অপেক্ষায় রয়েছে ফোরামটি। আপনি যদি লিনাক্স নিয়ে আগ্রহী হয়ে থাকেন কিংবা আপনি যদি লিনাক্সের দুনিয়ায় নতুন হয়ে থাকেন, যদি লিনাক্সের সাথে আরো ভালোভাবে পরিচিত হতে চান, যদি লিনাক্সের সৌন্দর্য পুরোপুরি উপভোগ করতে চান, যদি লিনাক্স নিয়ে যেকোন সমস্যায় অভিজ্ঞদের পরামর্শ পেতে চান - তবে আপনার জন্যই অপেক্ষা করছে লিনাক্স ফোরাম। আর আপনি যদি লিনাক্সের দুনিয়ায় পুরনো হয়ে থাকেন, আপনি যদি আপনার অভিজ্ঞতার ঝুলি দিয়ে নতুনদেরকে সাহায্য করতে উদগ্রীব হয়ে থাকেন, আপনি যদি বাংলাদেশে লিনাক্স প্রচার ও প্রসারে যদি কিছু করতে চান - তাহলে আপনার জন্যও ফোরামটি অপেক্ষা করছে। আপনি যদি উপরের দু'ধরনের কোনটাই না হয়ে থাকেন, তারপরও আপনি লিনাক্স ফোরামে আমন্ত্রিত; লিনাক্স কি, এটা দিয়ে কি করা যায় না করা যায়, আপনার সব কাজ কিভাবে লিনাক্স দিয়ে করতে পারবেন ইত্যাদি নিয়ে কিছু ধারণা পাবেন। আর কিছু নাহোক, বাংলাদেশী লিনাক্স ব্যবহারকারীদের সাথে অন্তত আড্ডা তো মারতে পারবেন। লিনাক্স ফোরাম আপনার জন্য প্রস্তুত। আপনি যোগ দিতে প্রস্তুত তো? আমরা কিন্তু আপনার নিবন্ধনের অপেক্ষায় রয়েছি... http://forum.linux.org.bd প্রচারে: বাংলাদেশ লিনাক্স ইউজার্স এলায়েন্স (বিএলইউএ) -- Ubuntu Bangladesh | http://ubuntu-bd.org ubuntu-bd@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bd
