If I recall correctly, the spell check in versions of OO.o Writer worked
out of the box. Do I recall correctly? If so, why was that changed?

I'm using WindowsXP with SP3, and OOo 3.1.1.
Check grouping in the taskbar options.

They have their time and place, notably in portable communications. I
