In northern California, there have been eagles killed by wind turbines. It is not an urban myth. However, in places like East Texas, the killing of birds, especially raptors, is not a problem because there are not many there to begin with. That is probley true of were you live too.
I have seen this used as a major argument against wind turbines before. If I remember correctly, some of the newer wind turbines have a top speed of 12 mph, no matter how fast the wind blows. I think that part of the reason for this is because of birds.
