I did not incorporate it yet because I do not like the restriction.

On the bright side, the memdisk author looked over the FDISK code and
sent a fix.  The FDISK author says he will try it soon:

Assuming this fixes the problem, I will re-examine using hard drive
images instead of floppy images for the next release.

As Soeren mentioned, that should work.  Be sure to flash the BIOS on
the 8500 to the latest revision (A03 last I checked); the release
notes mention USB floppies a lot.
