I assume you're talking about scanning a document that you will then attach to an e-mail. The only reason to scan to desktop is because it's easy to find it there (in most cases).But, you can put your scanned document in any directory you want. It CAN be done anywhere! In most cases you can also scan directly to your e-mail application.
