I think it all depends on the condition of the battery. If it is in really
bad shape it can look like a short circuit to the charger/power supply. If
the battery is not bad maybe you can leave the AC cord plugged in over night
with the battery still installed. Maybe that will bring the charge up enough
to keep it from causing the computer to shut down. If after an all night
charge it still does that I would say that the battery is probably shot.
