True. I worked for a laptop company and we received at least one call a day
about those partitions. A student wanted to dual boot. Someone wanted to store
something in the extra space. It was always something.

We finally told them that they could get additional software to provide
recovery. Then they could delete the hidden partition. It is their machine and
they could do so at their own risk. Deleting the partition would void their
software warranty.

I have the free Acronis version 7. It wrote to CD with no problems. I have
corresponded with users that have newer versions. They say that it does not
write directly to DVD. It is unfortunate that they don't have DVD support. I
have used the disk clone feature and it works great!

I do have Acronis Backup, but I have not used it often, my Ghost program
seems far easier to use. I never managed to get Acronis to burn a DVD. So I
would have to use another program to burn the Acronis image to a DVD, then
run Acronis boot to image the C partition. Ghost is much easier to use.

I know about the hidden recovery partitions, but they have become a moving
target as computer companies vary how they use them OR whether they use
them.
