Thank you for your replies, I have fixed the problem myself.  It had to do with 
the DLL problem that some of us had experienced.  I can plug head phones, micro 
phones, and TV cables into my modem.

Plugging headphones into your speakers is, what you are supposed to do, 
not try plugging headphones into a modem.
