It's a tiny little diagnostic tool, and I have just tested my own using it, and its very simple to use. It also helps with problems in othe areas as well, so it's worth remembering. You simply type DXDIAG in the run box, click ok, then click the sound tabs and carry out the actions that are logically suggested by the display.
