The pink one is for a microphone. The green one is for the speaker.
If there is a blue one I think that may be Line in or out, I forget.

Remember that on a tower the system board is mounted parallel to one
side and most of the connections are made in that vertical row near the
edge except when there is a plug in board. Modem and network cable
jacks are easy to identify, the modem jack has for pins, the netwrork
one has six. If you use dialu up then a phone line will be plugged into
the modem jack. If broadband that modem will be plugged into the
network jack.

Left and right don't mean anything, it's how close the jack is to a long
edge of the computer.

That definitly sounds like the sound circuit is bad.
Do the pink, green and blue jacks line up vertically
or horizontally. If the latter then there is a sound card.
This means that you have a sound card which can be replaced.
