Jim you made no mention of the fact that virus's are protected in the restore files and that you just replace them by using it.
In MHO you scan online to make sure there is one. Then once again you go on to suggest your last ditch solution. Not for the beginner? -------Original Message------- From: Jim Purcell Date: 06/25/08 18:19:17 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [A-1-Computer_Tech] computer problems sweetnsassyfs, > Can anyone suggest one that maybe i could find online My understanding is that the most effective AV strategy is to detect a virus when it first arrives. Some say that if that fails then after the fact detecting may not work. While you might want to download AVG the free AV program, I don't think it will be very good after the fact. The only solution I know of is maybe System Restore if you have XP. The last ditch solution is to reinstall everything, OS and all the software, AFTER reformatting the drive. Anything else could probably leave a virus on the machine. But you may not actually have a virus. I think that one can only be certain that a problem is due to a virus is by detecting a specific virus. I have never been hacked or had a virus but my solution for performance degradation is the same one described above. And I prepare for that possibility by cloning my C partition using Norton Ghost. Then when I feel the need I just reverse clone C so that the original clone is now the C partition.
