set the old drive as slave on the cable with the new drive and you
should boot up with the new drive and you can explore the old drive
and retrieve whatever info you had on the old drive. If the new drive
is SATA and the old is PATA, then hook up the old drive to an IDE
cable connect to the motherboard and it should be set as the last to
boot and explore from there
