You may still be able to recover the files from that drive............I  
would find an external USB hard drive case and try running the drive that  way. 
 
Should show up automatically.  If at first it won't open you can  try doing a 
CHKDSK on the drive.  Drive cases are available online for  under $20.  Maybe 
eBay.  Otherwise you could maybe borrow someones and  just swap the drives.  Bye
