I tried that but the old drive just makes a beeping sound and doesn't show up
at all on my computer. How do I know where to move the pin for slave when it
isn't marked?

The problem sounds like one that came through awhile back. The easiest
method involves opening your computer case and installing the drive
with the pics on it as the second drive. You would have to set the
drive jumper so that it is in the slave mode. That's the second drive
in a chain. Most often this involves one jumper but not the same
position as when it was in the old computer.

Once the drive is installed you just start up the computer and the now
slave drive will appear as additional drive letters. If you have one
master drive and two optical drives the slave should come up as E. The
you just use My Computer and look for the pictures. Let me know if you
need any more information.
