Well, of course the first thing to try is to un-install and then reboot and re-install QuickBooks. It wouldn't be at all unusual for one of the QB files to have gotten corrupted somehow. In fact, unfortunately, since the crash doesn't happen till your data is loading - it might be your data file that is corrupt. If you have a backup of that file try replacing the current file with the backup. Hopefully that'll fix the problem.
Don't forget with XP you have the System Restore utility to go back to a date previous to when the prob started. You won't lose any data, so give it a shot.
